Being a solo rider in that race, your 20th place was absolutely respectable! It looked like you did everything that you could with the opportunities that you had. Unless you could hammer 1500 watts for the entire last lap, you were not going to be able to negate the advantages that the teams with multiple riders had in those final laps.
Solo riders were able to crack the top ten so I def could’ve been positioned better but I may have spent my pennies earlier in the race. Appreciate the kind words!
This was SO GOOD, with the variety of feeds and insiders view from the washing machine. I'm always amazed at the skills of top level criterium riders, their ability to position, pass, and even bump when necessary and "safely", especially through corners. Please keep this content coming.
You should investigate more in Belgian Junior races! They take a lot more risks and there you can point out a lot of mistakes they make so you can teach everyone how to do it correctly. Love the content btw!
20th. Well done Jeff! Always interesting to watch your race breakdown videos. Good idea to post also longer format content like full races and podcasts ...sometimes that's what people want to turn on their trainer ride, anyway that's what I do.
I love this content. Assume you knew in advance looking at the course that it was unlikely a break could succeed, just due to the speed that would have to be maintained to get established. But I love how you went for it anyway because...fun! And also because sitting in and waiting for the field sprint with all those big teams wasn't going to pay off.
Pretty awesome course layout for spectators compared to others. They’ll see you passing every minute or so . Now just need onboards and live cameras rolling for added production value.
Just did my first race last night (four corner, super flat crit Brugger Abendrennen). It was 30MPH average for 75 minutes. Didn't get in the break away, but finished in the top third. FDJ conti pro showed up and destroyed. Was sick. Never thought it would feel so much like watching one of these videos.
Listening to these commentaries from Jeff for the past 2 years, he is always trying to do a breakaway and getting random riders to help him with this dream. Maybe it's time to actually get team mates to help you with this breakaway.
@@NorCalCycling were you able to spin the 53 11 with good legs? I want to know what fitness level required for each chainring ratio. I know you are about 5 wkg
I always had two bottles but rarely finished both. I'd finish about half of the first during warmup, then all of the other during the race. Last half of that first bottle would get finished immediately after the race.
I'm 14 and I just broke the 5 wpkg FTP barrier, I'm type 1 diabetic and next week I'm doing a Everest to be the youngest person to do it. After that I'm going to apply to novo Nordisk's development team. Love these vids Jeff great work. Master class is looking great 👍
Curious... why have you taken EJ out of firing range and media spotlight? I know he was getting slated in the media as he is naturally and has a sportive background anyway. Are you busy turning him into a monster cyclist and Legion slayer?
In '93, I promoted a crit in Tucson. 1km 4 corner course, slight hill on the finishing straight. 1st race of the year, in FEB. 90 minutes, avg speed >30 mph. No aero frames, no deep dish wheels, no disc brakes, no massive carb intake, no powermeters, none of that. All we had was a cash prime, often a 2 or 3 place prime, at least every other lap. #showmethemoney #ringthebellsucka
I should’ve been more clear that outside pass where he almost crashed wasn’t worth the one spot. 10 seconds later when he followed a guy passing on the right was the right way to do it

What do you want him to do? Crash out an entire field for the sake of position? Ruin his reputation? Catch a ban for reckless riding? Get to the p1/2 level, go to a national race like this then pitch in your two cents on how he should ride. He's a valuable resource for people like me who have been following him for years. He teaches how to win safely and consistently. If you have "better" advice then make a channel and show us you winning at a high level.

And more interesting to watch :) Truly though, the 4"x4" mailboxes inches off the course are a real hazard to these riders - not sure if F1 danger level, but non-trivial if you hit one at 50kph.
That drone shot at 5:40 was perfect!

The drone shots are incredible. Also, this crit racing stuff is totally insane. Trauma alert waiting to happen.

I shoulda been on that
Those were some intense corners! Way to rip it Jeff!
Great camera angle! Love the speed!
Excellent stuff
Maybe I missed something, why are you not wear your Mikes Bike’s kit?! Amazing race by the way!
dang that was a tough crowd to race with

Very cool, Looks fun :)
sick drone shot, 10/10
Awesome stuff.
When the pace is that high the watts need off the front have to be tough to hold.
What was the red bike just before 11 mins??
Insane speed!
That's some redemption!
Anyone know what the whats per kilo is in this race?

do you get to race against teams much like texas roadhouse and project echelon?
most times when I race out of my local district I race against those guys.
