    Good advice, even the most beautiful oak trees has a few knots in it as it grows and it never stays static until it dies .

    Not a good example because this painting clearly demonstrates a new level of mastery - stunningly effective and efficient cat hair technique! Your brushstrokes are like poetry in motion

    Wowed again. Great subject to talk about, I never looked at growth as anything other than linear. New perspective now. Also, can you do a vid about what brushes you use, and how you mix your paint. Thanks for your vids.

      I'm glad you got a new perspective on your work. I know I'm benefitting from this new approach and I hope you do to!
      That's a good idea, I'm thinking of doing a studio tour at some point and I'll keep that in mind to Include my brushes. In the mean time I use Rosemary and Co brushes.
      Definitely worth the shipping even if your not in Europe.
      And another good video on how I mix my paint! Thanks for the ideas!

    I’m curious , why the gloves , Personal reasons , or just extra cautious ?

    • @LukeDurdin
      @LukeDurdin  2 роки тому +1

      It's a little bit of both.
      Oil paint is quite toxic if ingested and because it's slow drying compared to acrylic and other types of paint you can really get it allover the place if your not careful.
      By wearing gloves I just take them off when im done and I know I'm not tracking it all over.

    Awesome as ever!
    My goals are to work more with oils. Started yesterday, but I’m always smudging my paint… I really can’t get white/ lighter paint over other colors, only one stroke and then it’s mixed 😅

      Thank you!
      It can be tricky for sure,
      Few big tips to help with that.
      1 - try to mix your paint on your palette not on the board or canvas.
      2 - use a medium to help your new brush stroke glide over existing paint
      3 - clean your brush after each brush stroke. Very tedious but helps to keep a constant application of paint.
      4 - have a brush that you use for only white or light values.
      I try to have 3 brushes of every size, one for darks, one for medium values and one for light :)
      Hope this helps!

      @@LukeDurdin thanks! With acrylics it’s much easier to clean them in between, but multiple brushes could help a lot

    • @LukeDurdin
      @LukeDurdin  2 роки тому +1

      Definitely!
      With multiple brushes I just use a shop towel in-between brush strokes :)

    Hi, I love your painting! My goal is to draw a cat. May I ask you if the large brush your using is a comber, or is it an Ivory flat? You do such a great job of painting the hair. I would like to be able to make my dog painting have brush strokes like that but I understand that it took you a long time to learn. Maybe that should be my new goal.
