Oddball broadheads are like oddball rifle calibers. Most of them are subpar gimmicks with niche game in mind, but in rare cases like this, they actually perform their intended purpose extremely well. Great video!!
Consistently every time I go online and see a Head that I wanna see you get tested before I take the chance and bring it out in the field….. I googled Broadhead and add your name lo and behold here I am solid work as always keep on keeping on!!!
I’ve been. Watching Final Descent hunting show. They use these and I’ve seen some blood trails they have using these heads. Incredible!!! Great test John, as usual!
Yeah, I should have shown that. I did it and filmed it, but just forgot to put it in. It made a perfect star hole but the blades came out of the ferrule. The impact of 4 sets of blades hitting steel all at 4 different times in 4 different planes is just too much force.
Yup! I recently bought these and shot a doe Fri(10/28/22) at 30 yds. Complete pass-thru and she only ran 20 yds. She was basically DOA! I will definitely use these again. They are REALLY sharp too. I put them together on my bed;laid it down, and put a hole in my sheet when picking it back up. Also cut my finger. They are like 8 razor blades!
It does look like a club from mid eval times!!!! Like to know what is the best rotational single bevel out there? I have some helix broadheads and i find the head only rotates one quarter turn in 12 INCHES through loose CARDBOARD LAYERS.
Thanks Brad. Yeah, single bevels don't rotate nearly as much as people think. The best I've seen is the Bishop Scientific Method. But even that is about 180 degrees in 10 inches. However, that rotation does help pry bone apart; I've tested that. Have you seen my vid on Single Bevel vs Double Bevel? I tested both on an elk scapula.
@Lusk Archery Adventures getting ready to go to Africa for a plains game hunt was considering these heads. I know you have been many times what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!
Well, I like these heads in many respects. And I’m sure they could get the job done. However, they lack the durability that I’d want for an African animal. I’d prefer a really tough head like an Exodus or Trifecta Fixed, for example.
Thank you for mentioning the barbed blades not being legal in some places. Unfortunately this blade would not be legal in New York. It's too bad because it is an intriguing design.
For a mech its the Sevr 1.5 for sure. That's been one of my favorite heads recently. I also really like Exodus and Tooth of the Arrow and Iron Will for elk and mule deer.
Been shooting since the early 80’s and for the past 20 years my bow sat in the closet. Bought a New PSE EVOKE LT. Set at 64 LBS shoot a Black Eagle Rampage 350 .003. 100 grain field point. Looking for a broad head. Watched a ton of your videos and very informative but I can not decide. I am drawn to this broad head because it looks like a great transition from the field points. I am hunting west coast Mule Deer and Black Bear. What Broad head would you recommend for me Thanks jimmy.
I did a little bit of math. Your .78oz arrow is right around 341 grains. When you add your head, that puts you at around 441 or so grains. John can correct me, but I would think any of the 100 grain heads that do well in his testing would work with your setup. Good luck this season!
These remind me if the first expandable broadhead I ever saw back in the late 80’s. I shot a buck with one and it bent in half and broke. Didn’t pass through the deer to say the least.
@@kansasoutdoors5667 edged triangular focal points seem like an advantage over the contact friction surface area of a cone. It makes enough of a difference for most nails to use a bodkin point over a round one.
Dale Wilson but you recovered the deer? Sounds like mission accomplished. Look at Ranch Fairy about blood trails. Not always reliable. Too many factors, including tissue plugging holes, external media like mud plugging holes, or just internal bleeding. If it causes enough damage to kill quickly in 60-100 yards it doesn’t matter how well they bleed
Thorn makes 3 different models. Which ones were you using? And blood trails are more a function of shot placement than anything else. I look at cut size and sharpness and durability. If that is solid, there will be blood accordingly, if the shot it well placed. But anything can happen on any animal. I've seen amazing blood trails with a tiny two blade head and then zero blood with a huge Gravedigger.
dcc1974 try watching a video explaining why blood trails aren’t what you want to aim for by the Ranch Fairy. Shot placement is much more important imo, and blood trails are much too random to be the goal. Dirt, sand, mud, body tissue, organs can all block the wound channel and restrict bloodtrails at no fault of the Broadhead. If we focus on hitting the animal in an area that will kill quickly, it’s more likely we will have both good bloodtrails and short recoveries
Should do swat broad heads next they make them down the road from me and want to know how they would hold up just can’t afford to donate a $40 pack of broadheads
Yeah, they are. The bottom two sets are. Barbed means that the bottom of the blade is not perpendicular to the ferrule. The bottom two sets angle downward and are not perpendicular.
The tips are removable. If you can find a trocar tip with the same thread pitch you could probably swap it in. I’d test it before you hunted with it though
Lusk Archery Adventures merely because i believe you have reviewed many other options that fly within the tolerance of human error yet have greater mech. advantage. Thats all
I used these last year. I love them! killed my bull elk, pulled it out of the animal and killed my mule deer 2 days later with it. Very close to field point flight pattern. Definitely recommend.
Based on what I know from Ed Ashby's extensive research, seeing the picture of this broadhead is enough for me. I wouldn't consider this broadhead. Two blade, single bevel, 3:1 ratio, steel insert, long ferrule.
Yeah, it looks bad---but it is an official outdoor archery range--that's why I wrote that. The highway is hundreds of yards beyond, but looks close on camera.
I am an avid archer and not looking to start any kind of an argument but I am recommending change before someone shows up with an arrow sticking out of their car or worse. Arrows easily travel hundreds of yards. Your shooting 70 and judging by the size of the vehicles compared to the target they are not hundreds of yards beyond. I'm done now. Happy hunting!!
Broadhead testers need to stop pushing that gimmick of You're getting 3 1/2 inches of cut because each blade measures a certain length according to the width and length of the broadhead which from all testing proves that is complete Scam Case in point this broadhead right here the most you will get out of this is maybe a 1" cut from bleeder blades because that's what is broadhead is using a bunch of little bleeder blades You are not getting 3 to half inches of cut diameter or damage your getting barely in inch since slice I would never shoot that broadhead if you paid me
Well, thank you for watching and commenting. Of course you're not getting 3.25 inches of diameter cut, but you are cutting 3.25" of tissue. Have you seen any kill pics with this head? The devastation I've seen is amazing. I prefer a wider cut, personally, but this is certainly not a gimmick.
Yeah, like Boba said, it is an official range...but they did recently put up a big hill to make it look safer...the cars are much farther away than it looks.
Oddball broadheads are like oddball rifle calibers. Most of them are subpar gimmicks with niche game in mind, but in rare cases like this, they actually perform their intended purpose extremely well. Great video!!

Thanks for the effort in this review, I was so interested in these, I respect you and honesty you give, I will be ordering these 100%!

can you share the videos? I tried looking through their library, but each video seems to be primarily shameless ads or the dude talking about Jebus.
That is the craziest broadhead I’ve seen you test. It held up great, now I really want to see it on an animal too.
Right? I've seen some harvest pics that were pretty devastating.
Bouggr some last yr. Super impressed. Shot 2 deer. One bounced 3 hops for 15 yards and dropped. Other ran about 60 yards. Amazing wound channels
Good to hear

Must say that dose not look bad at all. Still would have liked to see it go though the steel. Great video.

Man o man another great test. It’s almost like I wish he didn’t do them so I wasn’t alway like 🤔 hummm should I switch things up.
Haha. That's funny. And I've got 4 more all uploaded and ready to post.
Would love to see how it does on an elk! Looks like it would be similar to pulling the drain plug.
Right? I've seen some kill pics and they were pretty impressive.
It’s technically a fixed blade right, but do you need to fixed blade tune it or do the tiny blades not affect arrow flight??
I tested it out to 70 yds and it flew extremely well. I never broadhead tune any of the heads I test. I just screw them on and shoot at 70 yds.
I’d be willing to send one of these from a crossbow for sure!
Yep--lots of cut for such excellent flight.
Looks really impressive
It is a cool looking head.

The True Blue. Yeah I have a vid test of that here on my channel as well.
