To me, the Westcountry ident looks nice, sure it's very simplistic and doesn't have any animation other than the live-action images, but it does have an relaxing nature. Each ident shows different seasons, and the music is soothing.
UTV did similarly for Christmas a few years ago, fixed shots with a giant U. Westcountry was another quiet one. I like the themed idents with the jingle being rearranged each time.
Westcountry had a strong in-house graphics team. The on-air presentation was just about the only thing the station was good at. In terms of programme content it was low budget and amateurish. TSW had a much more professional regional news operation and their in-vision continuity was much appreciated by viewers. The W idents were refreshed in 1997 with the logo emerging from an animated blue background.
Well after TSW ended in 1992 when 1993 arrived Westcountry was the replacement for TSW I must say until 1999 Westcountry in my opinon had calm and relaxing idents and the 1994 World Cup American Westcountry Ident was good even the Xmas one too. Awesome video Adam
Now I think about it, WestCountry’s idents are actually quite beautiful. Of course, there was no movement, aside from the background, but it’s pretty nice not the less! It would basically be one of the most tranquil of the itv renationalise idents.
Didn't appreciate that name only lasted six years. Like Central, replaced with that far inferior Carlton ident. The only good thing about the 2002 reorganisation to ITV1 is that we'd never hear the name Carlton again!
I remember the television 📺 franchise called TSW - Television 📺 southwest. It happened until Thursday 31st December 1992 (New Year’s Eve). On Friday 1st January 1993 it became Westcountry Television 📺. I think 🤔 because in the southwest of England 🏴 is plenty of rural area. Before TSW - Television 📺 Southwest, it was called Westward Television 📺. I honestly don’t understand why it’s complicated about franchises change. 👍👍👍
I enjoy watching your ident review series. And this is coming from someone who doesn't live in the UK. Any chance you will cover Sky 2 and 3 in the future on the main series?
These idents aren't bad, the music and the visuals definitely encapsulate feelings of being in the countryside which I think is perfect for that region, but the complete lack of animation does make them rather boring compared to other regional idents and kind of makes me feel sorry for any logo lovers who grew up in the Westcountry region!😃😃
Like many in the South West, I loved Westward and TSW and when Westcountry came along lots of things changed for the worse. Firstly the name. Cornwall is NOT in the West Country - The Westcountry ends at the river Tamar as far as we are concerned, so to have a name that does not reflect our Cornish identity was an insult. Secondly - Presentation. No on screen presenters. We had grown up with familiar names and presenters that we welcomed into our homes. Judi Spiers, Ian Sterling, etc etc, we knew and loved them, (plus they got rid of the rabbit). Thirdly the logo. Threequarters of the screen out of focus? What were they thinking of. OK the different backgrounds etc were interesting but the out of focus backgrounds reflected the companies attitude to local programming - compared to what we were used to from Westward and TSW it was obvious that WC-TV as the company became known locally didn't have a clue and because viewer figures were so low, they slowly dropped them all, and they brought back popular presenter Ian Sterling for inserts into the local news for some local flavour stories/interests. Oh yes - and that jingle? Nothing to do with the regional identity and was really Jaw achingly B-O-R-I-N-G!! Now ITV is non-regionalised (Sadly) but in the South West we are saddled with the regional news, being called Westcountry News - the Cornish still hate the name - and the bloody programme is produced in (wait for it) Bristol. The Isles of Scilly to Bristol - 235 Miles away. Very regional. The older people in the South West still call ITV, Westward! now that is how a company makes an imprint on the minds of it's customers! Westcountry Television - Not popular. - Still a looser.
Well of course later on ITV had the wisdom-not?!-to merge the Westcountry area with HTV-now ITV- West, meaning that one enormous area was created by it. Of course it could have merged it with Meridian as also being in the south or even with Channel, but it did not I guess. Odd really somehow?!
These could still work today and not look dated.
I didn’t know you liked idents
what’s up checkmark

These kind of remind me of BBC 2’s Windows on The World
These are so peaceful to watch
It would have been nice for the Westcountry name to have been retained in 1999.
I saw some of those Westcountry idents when I went on holiday to Cornwall in 1993 & 1994.
Hope we can eventually see a vid for the S4C idents used between 1993 and 2006. They're Lamie-Nairn and really underrated.

I Love ITV Westcountry Idents because I Live in the South West! Thank you for that!
I must admit I've always really liked this set - perhaps the 2013 ITV set could be seen as a little nod to it (inverted of course)?

Great video Adam!
Great video! Which region next!

It looks like the Waterstones W... that's all I have to say 🤣👌🏻

Hey adam! Was wondering if we will ever see a return of video scaries
