Ugh, I feel this is going to be another "Andor" situation where it's just overly serious the whole time so I lose my focus and start to fall asleep or go on my phone waiting for something between all the talking. She-Hulk is my all-time favorite show with its comedy and 4th wall breaks and even Ms. Marvel and others had humor and jokes that kept my attention. It's the same reason I don't remember a single thing from The Dark Knight despite it supposedly being one of "the greatest movies" but I fondly remember Batman and Robin. My brain doesn't have the attention span for overly serious things with no jokes or lightheartedness to break it up, which is why I've liked most Marvel movies in general.
Ooh, apparently the opening credits were made with AI, as a comparison to not knowing what's human and what's not! Instead of comparing humans to shapeshifting aliens, it's comparing it to computers!
My favourite detail is that when the bad guy is changing into each different person while distracting Fury, its all people we've seen. The little girl is the one that got taken away by the mom before he got kidnapped. The woman was the one kissing the man on the pier and watching him. And the old man is the one at the bar saying "you'll never be the man you once were". Like...goddamn...he was everywhere from the literal beginning.
Oh fuck, that's why he was looking at them all weird when walking by each instance of those characters. Was Gravik there each time, or was that sheer coincidence?

That was my favorite part of this whole episode. It creates a wealth of subtext about Fury and Gravik and who they are to each other, and about what Gravik thinks of Fury being in play. When I realized what was going on, it took my breath away.
Yup sounds absolutely Terrifying. Now Imagine if they actually took their time and maybe even devoted an episode down the line to show how brutal and Violent That Body Abduction is....But instead they rushed a scene that had 0 emotion and felt like a Nothing Scene...Really bad start to an Amazing Concept but What are you Gonna do?
This whole first episode was filmed in my home town of Halifax.....it was crazy...The scene with the explosion was filmed in an 1800s property that is now a music, food and independent shopping venue. Was amazing to see what they did with it.

Im genuinely shocked that death happened especially with how long they’ve been in the mcu, i think that was a great way to kickoff the show and make a statement that separates itself from the more light hearted modern projects.
I can easily see a mature Daredevil show in this kind of setting, it's dark, serious, rather clever writing and dialogue, with decent, tasteful CGI, with no overbearing comedy, this was fantastic and what I've been asking for so long.

Maria seemed to sigh her last breath and I was absolutely gutted! I can see them using her death as a push for Nick to step his game up but man… she was with him even before her first appearance in Avengers. I hope to see more of her in some way
Watching this episode I couldn't stop asking myself how did so many people complained about this because of being more serious and grounded, like, they make stuff where the characters feel like actual human beings and not just parodies making a joke every five seconds, and they complain? If the rest of the show feels at the same level and has good writing, just think about the possibilities this one has with all it's potential!!!!
Because there are a lot of sad people out there who've made it their job to criticize anything Marvel phase 4 related, just for clicks. I bet most of those people didn't even watch the episode

I woke up this morning and secret invasion chose violence. Once I noticed Cobie Smulders wasn’t in the opening credits, I knew something was up. I search it up. I skimmed the summary’s of the first few articles, and they said “an unexpected farewell to Cobie Smulders Maria hill” I couldn’t believe it. I put my phone down right there and unpaused the tv. I watched the whole rest of the episode in disbelief. I am devastated. Not to mention the fact that I accidentally spoiled it for myself. Had I not had spoiled it, I really would have been shocked (I still am). Maria hill is one of my favorite marvel characters. I can’t even deal with this rn.

@@gingerdog8203 The intro sequence was made by the same studio who did the credits for Ms Marvel and Moon Knight. I guess it's still not ideal, but I feel like there's a big difference between a VFX studio deciding to use AI because it fits the show, and Marvel producers themselves using it to create an intro because they can't be bothered to pay anyone else to do it.
This was literally EVERYTHING I wanted, it’s dark, it’s got stakes, it’s focusing on the characters rather than big CGI fights, and there was like two jokes in the whole 50 minute episode, this is off to a great start I hope it keeps up this momentum
Man, it's insane. Knowing that Gravik was in every scene with Fury, and that's why he shifted into each of those characters he interacted with or was near, showing that he was always watching and always ahead. And then that lingering shot on Maria Hill just to show us that she didn't turn into a Skrull, so it was 100% her. Like that hurt so bad. So damn excited for an MCU show where we can actually have that feeling of fear because we have no idea who's safe. Actual stakes this time. Fuck. So excited!

not "done" by ai, a pre conceived visual sequence re processed through a programmed AI algorithm specifically designed to make something look like that. it takes a lot of work and skill in both coding and creativity

CA: Winter Soldier and Falcon & Winter Soldier have been my most favourite entries in the MCU regarding tone. Focusing on the theme of unpredictability and trust amongst characters while still having SUBTLE humour. Looking forward to how this plays out.

Not going to lie, I absolutely love the tone and pacing. Even the brief moments of humor absolutely work. And Fury feels very believable for a nearly 80yo man whose been through and seen the things he has. And let's give Emilia Clark her flowers. She nor her character feel out of place or forced. This might be my favorite pilot for a show period. Not even limiting to Marvel
Don't forget Maria was also portrayed as a skull already . So she can still be a part of marvel. I'm wondering if they used the machine to gather the memories for her skrull and for Talos.

I can see how they could make her death be a Skrull because from what I remember Agent Ross with last taken into US custody at the end of Wakanda forever but was broken out of custody by the Dora Milaje so I doubt he is currently working for the US government which makes it weird to know that Maria Hill was working with him as if he wasn't a fugitive from the law. And most likely the true agent Ross is in Wakanda she should know that. So maybe she is also a Skrull. But, I can also see how having a known US Agent in Russia after a quote-unquote terrorist bombing would really play into the Skrull Chaos plan.
Did you guys not catch the meaning of Maria Hill’s death? I think you may have been to upset at her exit that you missed this event as Nick Fury’s “Coulson moment”. Fury is unsure, he needs a purpose, something to drive him forward and forget past events. I think it even ties into his mid life crisis shopping spree of The Avengers, not just a joke but a link! Also I love how Sam Jackson went Pulp Fiction in his dialogue with the Skrull he eventually shot. Rewatch that scene, check the body language, listen to the dialect, it’s Jules. Oh, and if any also made this point, kudos, not stealing, but not reading 800 comments to see if someone already said it.

I was so shocked with Maria's death. She was so good in the MCU in general, and also Agents Of SHIELD earlier seasons. I love that we got to see her actual serious side doing cool agent stuff in Agents Of SHIELD (A show you should definitely watch if you liked this), and I hoped to see that again here but this was so shocking.

I just realized something. If the Skrulls are staying in the nuclear facilities because they can resist the radiation, and have captive humans there that are being held to copy and take their places, why aren't those humans dying from radiation? I might be missing some details as i haven't seen the full episodes (just the reactions) but that would be a point of failure?

I think she’ll be missed precisely because she never really got to do much. Just as Marvel starts delving into her and her potential, she dies. I love the MCU, but it is a criticism I have. They do this quite a bit.

For me, the biggest moment of suspense was Gravik succeeding his plan and shooting Maria while disgusting himself as Nick. However, my favorite part was Gi’ah pulling herself together to warn her father. Looking at Talos in human form, I remember that his actor Ben Mendelsohn was Orson Krennic in Rogue One.

Here's an interesting detail I spotted in this episode. Back in Captain Marvel movie there's a scene in the elevator where Talos talks to Fury about past operations and Fury noticed he's a skrull due to the fact he doesn't have the memories. But in this show it seems they've been upgraded in this arena. Which is actually what happened in the comics, where Illuminati goes to Skrullus and after that they find a way to impersonate superheroes and their abilities. My guess is due to this fact so many superheroes at this point could be an Skrull. So far I love this show. I thinK MCU needs these kinda dark and serious stories.

I watched the whole rest of the episode in disbelief. I am devastated. Not to mention the fact that I accidentally spoiled it for myself. Had I not had spoiled it, I really would have been shocked (I still am). Maria hill is one of my favorite marvel characters. I can’t even deal with this rn.

@@gingerdog8203 The intro sequence was made by the same studio who did the credits for Ms Marvel and Moon Knight. I guess it's still not ideal, but I feel like there's a big difference between a VFX studio deciding to use AI because it fits the show, and Marvel producers themselves using it to create an intro because they can't be bothered to pay anyone else to do it.

This was literally EVERYTHING I wanted, it’s dark, it’s got stakes, it’s focusing on the characters rather than big CGI fights, and there was like two jokes in the whole 50 minute episode, this is off to a great start I hope it keeps up this momentum
There were more than just a couple of jokes don't be dramatic but they didn't hammer us in the head with it so it fit really well

Man, it's insane. Knowing that Gravik was in every scene with Fury, and that's why he shifted into each of those characters he interacted with or was near, showing that he was always watching and always ahead. And then that lingering shot on Maria Hill just to show us that she didn't turn into a Skrull, so it was 100% her. Like that hurt so bad. So damn excited for an MCU show where we can actually have that feeling of fear because we have no idea who's safe. Actual stakes this time. Fuck. So excited!

People keep saying why can't he call the avengers. But it makes sense that the ones on earth can't be necessarily trusted because they can't detect these skrulls yet. It limits who you can trust. So far there is no reed richards to find a solution to that

not "done" by ai, a pre conceived visual sequence re processed through a programmed AI algorithm specifically designed to make something look like that. it takes a lot of work and skill in both coding and creativity

CA: Winter Soldier and Falcon & Winter Soldier have been my most favourite entries in the MCU regarding tone. Focusing on the theme of unpredictability and trust amongst characters while still having SUBTLE humour. Looking forward to how this plays out.

An efficiency in dialogue and performances that reminded me of Andor.
Not going to lie, I absolutely love the tone and pacing. Even the brief moments of humor absolutely work. And Fury feels very believable for a nearly 80yo man whose been through and seen the things he has. And let's give Emilia Clark her flowers. She nor her character feel out of place or forced. This might be my favorite pilot for a show period. Not even limiting to Marvel
Don't forget Maria was also portrayed as a skull already . So she can still be a part of marvel. I'm wondering if they used the machine to gather the memories for her skrull and for Talos.
She was portrayed by Soren, Talos's wife, and he said she was killed already.

I can see how they could make her death be a Skrull because from what I remember Agent Ross with last taken into US custody at the end of Wakanda forever but was broken out of custody by the Dora Milaje so I doubt he is currently working for the US government which makes it weird to know that Maria Hill was working with him as if he wasn't a fugitive from the law. And most likely the true agent Ross is in Wakanda she should know that. So maybe she is also a Skrull.
But, I can also see how having a known US Agent in Russia after a quote-unquote terrorist bombing would really play into the Skrull Chaos plan.
Did you guys not catch the meaning of Maria Hill’s death? I think you may have been to upset at her exit that you missed this event as Nick Fury’s “Coulson moment”. Fury is unsure, he needs a purpose, something to drive him forward and forget past events. I think it even ties into his mid life crisis shopping spree of The Avengers, not just a joke but a link! Also I love how Sam Jackson went Pulp Fiction in his dialogue with the Skrull he eventually shot. Rewatch that scene, check the body language, listen to the dialect, it’s Jules. Oh, and if any also made this point, kudos, not stealing, but not reading 800 comments to see if someone already said it.

Omg!!!!! This first episode was amazing! The directing is very good! The danger, the callbacks, the sense of some much dred from past things that happend. And then Maria, I was crying a lot. I cannot believe she is dead, we have seen her for so long😭😭😭😭 she was great and such a good ally. I am going to miss her❤

I was so shocked with Maria's death. She was so good in the MCU in general, and also Agents Of SHIELD earlier seasons. I love that we got to see her actual serious side doing cool agent stuff in Agents Of SHIELD (A show you should definitely watch if you liked this), and I hoped to see that again here but this was so shocking.

I just realized something. If the Skrulls are staying in the nuclear facilities because they can resist the radiation, and have captive humans there that are being held to copy and take their places, why aren't those humans dying from radiation? I might be missing some details as i haven't seen the full episodes (just the reactions) but that would be a point of failure?

I think she’ll be missed precisely because she never really got to do much. Just as Marvel starts delving into her and her potential, she dies. I love the MCU, but it is a criticism I have. They do this quite a bit.

For me, the biggest moment of suspense was Gravik succeeding his plan and shooting Maria while disgusting himself as Nick. However, my favorite part was Gi’ah pulling herself together to warn her father.
Looking at Talos in human form, I remember that his actor Ben Mendelsohn was Orson Krennic in Rogue One.

Ugh, I feel this is going to be another "Andor" situation where it's just overly serious the whole time so I lose my focus and start to fall asleep or go on my phone waiting for something between all the talking. She-Hulk is my all-time favorite show with its comedy and 4th wall breaks and even Ms. Marvel and others had humor and jokes that kept my attention. It's the same reason I don't remember a single thing from The Dark Knight despite it supposedly being one of "the greatest movies" but I fondly remember Batman and Robin. My brain doesn't have the attention span for overly serious things with no jokes or lightheartedness to break it up, which is why I've liked most Marvel movies in general.

Here's an interesting detail I spotted in this episode. Back in Captain Marvel movie there's a scene in the elevator where Talos talks to Fury about past operations and Fury noticed he's a skrull due to the fact he doesn't have the memories. But in this show it seems they've been upgraded in this arena. Which is actually what happened in the comics, where Illuminati goes to Skrullus and after that they find a way to impersonate superheroes and their abilities. My guess is due to this fact so many superheroes at this point could be an Skrull. So far I love this show. I thinK MCU needs these kinda dark and serious stories.
