Hi Teacher Nick, thank you so much for your video!! You mentioned that there needs to be a comma after Dear Diary. Does that mean we start the next part of our text with a capital or lowercase letter? Thank you so much!!
Flashback and foreshadowing are NORMALLY forms of structural devices. Remember you cannot write about everything. You must discuss FORM, STRUCTURE AND LANGUAGE devices. Only discuss those devices you are confident in explaining.
You won't be penalised but remember that time is not on your side and essentially - you should not need more than 200 words to complete the task. Also there are only 10 marks avaialble. In 1b you are aiming for about 350 - 400 words. Put your effort into 1b. Good Luck in your exams.
Again it is time-related. At Cambridge we expect students to be able to write a minimum of 600 words per hour. So aim for 350 words in Paper 2 1a. You won't be penalised but you are wasting time that you could use in Q2,3 or 4. For Q21b - aim for about 150 - 200 words. TIME is not a student's best friend. GL
How do we allocate time to both questions of P1? And is there any way in which I can contact you directly for my queries as I have my AS exam in two days? plss and thank you for this video
Hi Ihisoka - I would suggest that you time Paper 1 as follows: P1 Q1 Planning: 15 minutes Writing 1a: 15 Minutes (10 Marks) Writing 1b: 25-30 Minutes (15 Marks) Checking 5 minutes. P1Q2 Planning: 10 minutes Writing; 45 - 50 minutes. You have 135 minutes in total. Practice makes perfect. You can email me nick.ferris3@gmail.com But

@@CrazyTeacherNick sir I have another question is allusion, diction, alliteration, allegory, flashbacks, imagery. Are they all type of language devices or structural device???
@@husseinmanea4366 to answer your question dear, allusion, alliteration fall under figurative devices/figurative language but they 're deemed as language devices. Its not an undeniable fact that the words 'diction' and 'lexical choice'/ 'lexical field ' mean the same thing but try to use the term lexical choice instead of the word diction as it is less sophisticated- Diction does fall under a language device as well. Imagery and allegory fall under language devices. Note that the narrative essay techniques like flashback, flashforward, sequential, cyclical etc all those 're deemed as form features NOT structural features. I hope you understand dear.
And can you please tell me how to bring sophistication in my writing? the mark scheme always emphasizes on the words sophisticated and effectiveness but I dont quite understand them... my plan is to use as much structural and language devices as possible. My one more concern is that my vocabulary level isnt that advanced as compared to other students.. I did manage to learn some good adjectives but was still feeling doubtful. Any tips? or go to words?
Do not obsess about the word "sophistication"in the mark scheme. It only causes students to try and write in some fake style. Be yourself, we are more interested in your knowledge of the effects. Know your wordclasses, know your key terms ie structural and language devices. Be clear, precise and to the point. Make it easy for the examiner to understand your knowledge. Be Calm and Confident.

Thank you for the kind words. You will start with a capital letter. Great question!
Do we need to include a conclusion for Q1b, Q2 and the reflective commentry? And if so what do we need to talk about in the conclusion?
Hi Angela, No a conclusion is a waste of time/ words in any analysis because you are just repeating the same thing. So, in short No. Good question.
