I’m loving your content. You are bringing something different to the home space. Looking forward to learning more as I recreate my home as an empty nester. New phase, new environment.
I’m so glad I found you!!! I’ve loved interior design since I was a little girl. I’m now 71 and I think I’ve nailed it.🤪 I love beautiful things and if it looks bad it has to go! I must say that I’ve been guilty of buying decor from stores that everyone else has in their homes, but I realise that they don’t look homely or unique and they don’t stay long in my home. I wish in Australia we had thrift shops like you do in the States. Thank you for such a great video!🥰
you made my day! Well hopefully by the time I’m 71 I’ll nail interior design too! 😂 And interesting… I don’t know anything about what thrifting looks like in Australia! Do you not have many thrift stores or is the selection just different?
Excellent Presentation! Im a visual learner so writing it down while saying it, also printed on screen helps me alot. Also keeping example fotos on split screen with you explaining on other side is absolutely wonderful. So many presenters just flash the slides and my mind cant grab it all. . . THANKS
This is the video everyone needs to watch before they make the decision to repaint a room or their entire house or buy new furniture in order to bring some life into their space
Great content! Especially the overhead light 😊. I much prefer lamps and sconces. The only time i like to use ceiling light is if I'm trying to put something together and the lamp isn't enough to see what I'm doing 😂
@@themaggiejax your video came out at the perfect time for me too. I just signed the contract to buy an apartment last week and I am currently picking furniture, colors, light fixtures,... Love from Vienna, Austria 🇦🇹
The thing I have to live without is having rigs anywhere but in the bathroom. We don’t have fury pets or stuffed animals either… I also habe just a minimum amout of pillows and blankets because otherwise my life would be HELL. We are highly allergic to dust and what we do own have to be washed very frequently(twice a week). I’d love to have rugs though… C’est la vie
I recommend 2700 Kelvin’s (which typically is listed as “warm white” on most packaging), but up to 3000 Kelvin’s (soft white) also works depending on the space. I don’t have a specific preference on bulbs as it depends on the light fixture and how you view the bulb through the shade, but I try to use dimmable LED bulbs whenever it makes sense, and I will source other options if i need a more aesthetic bulb. Hope that answers your question? :)
I can definitely do a video on that - thanks for mentioning! For starters, thrifting lamps is huge, or even just putting a fireplace video on your tv is free, instantaneous, and helps a lot! Lighting candles, removing clutter, and having throw blankets are all free things you can do (assuming you have these items) to instantly make your home more inviting. I did just put out an organization video which includes some decluttering and organizing tips which will help with this, some of which can be applied to small budgets and spaces (which I have as well) 😆
So if turning on the overhead lighting isn’t a good idea, what’s the point on having it? Why does every house have it, should we just remove it or what would be the advice?
Thanks for asking… good question! There’s a couple great reasons to have it! This video was more for simplification for people who don’t have a great understanding of when to use overhead lighting versus when not to. For one, overhead lighting is often helpful in balancing the light coming in through the windows during the day. Sometimes it’s needed for task lighting to brighten a space (but then that’s a different core purpose than creating a warm and inviting feeling, which was the focus of this video). Some overhead lighting can also be ambient lighting, especially if it’s dimmable, is overhead but the light is directed on a wall or art piece (for example), or something like sconces over an island.
@@themaggiejax Thank you! I do have one of those fan lightings in my living room. Came to this video because I want my home to be cozy. I do have a better idea of the importance of lighting now! Thanks!
Great! If it’s in the evening, I’d encourage you to try turning off the fan light and maybe add an extra lamp to the space if you need more lighting… and see how it feels! You can also add lamps or other lighting sources to “unexpected” places like on shelves or even a fireplace mantel! PS your home is perfectly warm and cozy as it is too… these are just thoughts if helpful! ☺️

What is it with people who want to sit around in the dark??? That is what’s depressing.
