I LOVE this citroen and dont me wrong I am a citroen Guy I even OWN a citroen myself but we have te be fake The engine in that is e bit wel crap , I mean its unreliable as shit
Unfortunately the 1973 petrol crisis killed this car before it had it's chance. Citroen had to buy Maserati to make this a reality. It was the start of a long progressive downfall
CITROEN Sa Majesté French car with an Italian heart. The pure joie de vivre. What a beauty. That car has a soul and is as beautiful as a woman Take good care of this marvel
Not only. It may means or Sporting Maserati, or Sa Majeste. Citroen hasn't told us what SM means so we aren't sure about it. I thiink that Sa Majeste is better because of DS (DS=Deese=Goddess).
The S was the nickname of the project for "Sport" because the goal was to make a sportier DS. When they decided to put a Maserati engine in it, they added the M, so it's "Sport Maserati"
I loved these as a boy growing up in England (I was born in 1965). I remember having two 1:43 Corgi models (in lime green and a pinkish / purple colour). SMs just seemed so other worldly, not traditionally pretty but, to me, so striking especially from the rear.
I fell dead-ass in love with the. CitroenDM when I saw the car Featured in Robert Aldrichs’ Film, the LONGEST YARD Starring Burt Reynolds. Burt outran the Police in the Citroen. His girlfriend called it a Masarratti because it had the FI Italian Motor! I’m going to own one someday after I finish my Jenson-Healy......
have driven a CX 2000 pallas for years. Floting experience , comfort, speed and insensibility to sidewind but a strong understeering: the car loves to go straight on most. Repairs were difficult though. Especially the hydrolics were a complicated item and when one of the rilsan high pressure oilconducts failed you lost all of the hydrolics , you got a big red light in the middel of the dashboard and had just enough time to stop the car with the remaining pressure in the suspention balls generated by the weight of the car. And then the difficult and costly repair begun! But it was a unique experience even though it was a 4 cylinderengine no injection and only 109 hp.
i drive long time the same type of CX2000 and had never hydraulic problems ,with standard maintainance..., and the safety presure is not with "the weight from the car" but with 2 accus spheres: one for the main hydraulic, the other for the brakes...
My Dad had a DSuper5 and a SM , same problems with hydraulic system like with the SM, but!! that was our beloved car for many years because of extraordinary comfort . At least he sold the SM because it was too loud and the DS was better for travelling with three children :)
Rilsan (competitor brand of Nylon) tubes are leak returns. No significant pressure. Any external leak would gradually drain the hydraulic system. No back-up main braking. Power brakes or nothing but the handbrake (and downshifting). If the big red “STOP” light comes on, it means pull off the road and stop! Now! The fastest leak would be if the ¼” steel pipe from the pump to the main click-clack valve cracked. Had it happen on an ID21FH. Hydraulic oil sprayed all over the engine compartment. Next worst is the rubber hose recirculating oil to the reservoir from the click-clack valve. Low pressure but the oil pours out rapidly. In a hydraulique shift car if the hydraulic oil is lost the transaxle defaults to neutral. Can't limp home. The SM Automatique Borg-Warner T35 slushbox is a conventional torque converter automatic. They developed a reputation for stripping the planetary gear cluster. SAAB 99 had an upgrade with a stronger planetary cluster. I don't know if it would retrofit to the Citroën box.
Moro moro Jiri. It's nice to watch a SM roading the Suomi highway. I remember to hear that these cars had problems in the hard winter. The rear wheels blocked with the ice. Was it true?
C'est l'époque où LA FRANCE était encore une GRANDE PUISSANCE INDUSTRIELLE avant l'arrivée de cette clic néolibérale qui nous a dissous dans ce machin inmonde qu'EU
2 rear seats aren't for full size adults, thus it's not a 4 person tourer like the Jensen MKI, II or III. The gear lever makes sounds that can wake the dead. The only speciality is the ride quality - but that is available in a DS which is 100% Citroën & with no head aches & huge maintenance expense on SM. One more vital point: In a DS you can have sex in comfort...not in SM.
Those were Citroen Golden years, when they produced elegant charming cars, then Peugeot KILLED Citroen pfffff Such a pity no more original stuff from Citroen, only ordinary models.

The French made beautiful cars but they break easily and they only performed well in European streets and highways. The export to other parts of the world such as Africa, Aisa and the Americas did not succeed because they did not take into their consideration that terrain and climate in these places is very different than in Europe or maybe they new but they didn't care much.
