Great video Ry! Agreed with all your tips and advice. I would like to add my own tip which is to focus on having fun and try not to take things too seriously. This happened to me in season 2 once I started getting a lot of attention where I started treating every key like my life was on the line, and I was being far too hard on myself and bashing myself for every small mistake I made. It led to me completely burning out to the point where I quit the game and it's become hard for me to actually enjoy playing games at all anymore. Pleasure to play with you in season 1 and 2!
Good to hear from you Baym! I really think the most important part about this video is towards the end, I really agree with you. Making sure you're enjoying your time playing a game is really important. I think if people took the game less seriously sometimes they'd have more fun! I hope you're doing well, and maybe we'll see you back someday
Aww man how sad to hear. I am a fellow bear enjoyer and was really excited when I saw your rise in S2. I figured you burned out from the attention since no videos/streams came shortly after. I hope you do find the enjoyment in games again! All the best to you
Solid video. I’m not sure what John Lewis has to do with it but I’ll definitely incorporate a lot of this. I think I need to learn how to shotcall on disc in order to push past that last boundary into title
After the debacle surrounding the lizard video I almost gave up on this channel, but had to relent when I saw this new pug video. I have a pug named Joce that has anger issues, which became worse after the concussion that fateful day at the bridge. Joce now tends to get angry to the point of hyperventilating and passing out when he sees BMWs or 5'11" men. So I got him to watch this video about being a chill pug, and I think it's working, as he has been very quiet. I can't even hear his labored breathing anymore. In fact, I think he's not breathing at all. Well cool video but I have to give it a 4/5 because I think it killed Joce.
I've never stepped foot into a raid. Not even LFR. but I got keystone hero in 3 seasons in dragonflight. Twice on a mistweaver and one of blood DK. I pugged the whole thing

@@ryersonlive the majority of the community considers pugging to be logging in and just opening LFG tool and going from there. Having 1-2 people on your friends list or guild join in is fine too. But you're building a community of people to pick from and "shot-calling" etc and that's somewhere in between pugging and having a real team. People in your community are significantly less likely to be toxic or leave key immediately without learning anything from mistakes etc, more likely to stick around and build cohesion, get practice with the same comps, etc. It's just not relatable to what most people who strictly PUG consider their experience to be. That being said, pugging is not a good strategy for trying to get titles. Im fully confident that I am losing hundreds of rating every season from pure pugging
I think each came with their challenges. The hardest role to "get good at" was tanking, but I really think part of this was that groups expected you to be the defacto shotcaller. A lot of tanking at least in North America is the pressure of making the right calls, and being the "group leader" of bringing people together, and knowing your decisions on pulls make or break a key. I think healing is more challenging when in very high keys in some dungeons, but tanking on average felt harder. Especially moving up a key level and having to learn and plan your defensives, and trying scarier pulls that could cause you to insta deplete. As a healer, I would leave that in the hands of my tank and assist where I could, but often knowing there could be nothing I would be able to do to save a tank.
14:21 yea fully aware of this, issue is I am at a point in my life where I cant commit the time to play several roles, and this is coming from someone who has gotten title in multiple seasons. Time is finite.
Yeah it's definitely the biggest "hurdle" without having a raid guild or a "community" to help build up that network, it's probably the real time consuming part of pugging. I think you can skip this step if you've played awhile, but it's definitely the uphill battle trying to network or gain perspective on your own
@@ryersonlive Yes I know a few people I pushed with, so sometimes I get given a chance, "ohh I remember you from S1 of shadowlands etc etc" But then theres also who have been consistently playing. I could legit build a team of players who I used to do keys with in the pugging scene who currently play MDI or TGP, not that I was or am at that level they just outgrew my skill level by playing more and more consistently, so theres plwnty of ppl who I used to play with but I am still an unproven quantity after not plang for a while
@@ryersonlive Biggest issue for me is, effective play I know I can get title issue is I know the seasons Ive played Ive wasted a lot of time sitting online doing little, I want to find a way to get title have my fun pushing keys without committing insane hours idk how to find that balance. Issue for me also is my work is inconsistent 12 hr shifts. 1 week 5/ days of work another 3 or 2. So its hard to build a grp to play arouns that
@@user-jc3vy6tc1n Yeah it's a big thing. I think there's definitely a diminishing amount of effort you need over time to push title. My career is pretty demanding, and I felt that working 9-6, then coming home and having to "earn my way" through pugging in season 1/2 was very difficult. But over time, the networking part definitely made it easier. I know now what the key is to try and hunt title, but I also recognize there's a large upfront "opportunity cost" to need to push title.
AMAZING VIDEO! Tossed you a follow, hopefully I can finally get out of bronze. I find when I pug my jungler always feeds... but you seem to have cracked the codeapop!
depends how you contextualize it: - never had/made a formal team - used a community org or lfg to list/find keys - found returning players and friends for some keys otherwise I'd be misleading by not using the defined as "pick up group"
Just started leveling an alt (479 prepatch ilvl) and it feels about 3-5 seconds longer to kill mobs on my SPriest instead of my 525 DevEvoker in early access. Funny it's not that different, I'd honestly say the difference is flat out gear, and not anything else

"The tips i learned pugging keys is to not pug keys."
close enough :D

You're stretching the definition of pugging
happy to hear feedback, want to help identify where you think I stretched my definition?
