- The History: The original Angel chair was a 1968 Hall double chair, (one of four Hall lifts built at Sunshine). The Angel chair, along with the Continental Divide (another Hall double), and later on, the TeePee Town chair (a Mueller) all serviced lookout mountain. In 1988, Sunshine decided to spend the money to buy their second detachable lift (the first being the old VonRoll gondola). Angel was an obvious choice, as it sits at a crucial point in the ski resort; it is needed to access the TeePee Town chair from the base area, and it is the main lift servicing lookout mountain. Sunshine awarded Poma the contract and in 1988, the Angel Express was constructed (which happened to be Poma's second detachable chairlift in Canada). Over the years, the Angel underwent significant updates, but remained largely the same as when it was originally constructed.
This lift was replaced in 2024 with a Leitner-Poma bubble six pack. The bottom and top terminals are in the same locations as the original chair, although the new lift has a chair parking rail up top. The original Angel Express was sold to Castle Mountain, AB, and will be used in a new expansion on Haig Mountain.
