Although studied in Sinhala schools in Sri Lanka, I was never taught about its proper history. All I learned at school was about Brownrigg and Soulbury etc ! It's only recently that I even learned that the correct name of king DutuGamunu was Gamini Abhaya and that king Walagamba was king Saddhatissa's son !!! What kind of education was that, really ??? No wonder the minorities are taking advantage of our ignorance to alter history to suit their ulterior motives.

Very poor comparison. Moreover Singapore is very much a structure, not exactly a country like Srilanka. It is not a real democracy but by definition it is an autocratic financial entity run in a very specific efficient effective stream aligned with current american economic principles but not a free existence ; citizens behave very much like in an army camp, soldiers of a kind. I am not sure majority of Srilankans would enjoy that sort of living whether muslim sinhala tamil burgher malay or any other.😊🤔😶

To my understanding this professor is giving misleading information! Although it is true British signed an agreement with Sinhalese kingdom in 1815 that Sinhalese kingdom is not the Sri Lanka we are talking today! That Sinhalese kingdom was limited to upcountry region (Kanda Udarata) and it was the Sinhalese Buddhist kingdom by definition! All the other lands in particular the whole coastal region was already under British Colony by the time they signed the agreement! Therefore he is comparing apples and oranges! I am just saying the facts and no intention to justify what Mangala Samaraweera said recently!

What went wrong in Sri Lanka? Short answer in one word- SEGREGATION! Reverse discrimination imposed to the majority Sinhala population by the British when Sr Lanka gained independence. This was done by discriminatory laws such as Thesavalamei law that prohibited Sinhalese from buying land in the Jaffna province, allowing Muslims to legally marry multiple wives, while prosecuting non Muslims for bigamy if they marry more than one wife, allowing one woman to have multiple brothers as husbands in the Kandy province etc. The politicians who ruled Sri Lanka after independence did not realize the danger these laws did to isolate certain groups in Sri Lankan society but blindly followed “rule by partition “ policy. Thus instead of multi ethnic areas parts of the country belonged to a single group such as “Tamils only” Jaffna, Muslims only Batticaloa, Puttalam few integrated areas like Colombo, and many Tamil , Sinhala, and Muslim only villages. Up to the present day all the governments and the present rulers use race or religion as a basis to donate land and housing with segregated settlements. In most such areas Sri Lankan’s from a different race or religion are unwelcome and sometimes driven away, even physically attacked. The laws common to all Sri Lankan’s are blatantly violated sometimes with the help of politicians, such as not wearing helmets when riding motorcycles. If all races were mixed in all areas of the country like in Singapore these conflicts and even the 30 year war by Tamil separatists may not have happened. Even today the settlements in a Wilpattu (that should have never been destroyed) is exclusive only to Muslims most of them foreign born! Sri Lanka needs to amend the penal code and have a set of laws equal to ALL citizens regardless of ethnicity religion and laws changed to have all areas of the country integrated not segregated.
