    -------------------------------
    Beyoncé is one of this generation’s cultural icons. She ascended to fame as the lead singer of one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, Destiny’s Child. Kick starting her solo career with the chart-topping, “Crazy In Love.” She continued to shatter records and barriers with each subsequent release, while forging a path for a new era of black musicians.
    Her fourth album signaled an evolution -- showing an eagerness in exploring new sounds. She reinvented herself with her 2013 self-titled release -- pairing each track on the album with visual stories and presenting a new immersive way of enjoying her music. We’ve come to learn that when Beyoncé does anything, it’s an event. And Lemonade might just be her most powerful proclamation yet. An hour long visual album divided into several chapters: Intuition, Denial, Anger, Apathy, Emptiness, Accountability, Reformation, Forgiveness, Resurrection, Hope, Redemption.
    Beginning with learning of her husband’s betrayal, each chapter brings Beyoncé closer to finding the strength to forgive and rebuild what has been broken. A narrative dedicated to generations of black women -- who have learned to make the best of what life has served them. This is How Beyoncé Made Lemonade.

    Beyoncé’s Lemonade is devoted to black injustice. Deconstructing her visual album has been a month long process. I never would have thought I’d be releasing this just after yet another act of police brutality, but here we are and George Floyd is its latest victim. BLACK LIVES MATTER. Here are a number of ways you can help: blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/

    @12:19, you missed a little something. The visual of black women walking into the water is reminiscent of the folklore of Igbo landing where the West Africans walked back into the water to commit mass suicide upon arrival to refuse slavery.
    "The West Africans upon assessing their situation resolved to risk their lives by walking home over the water rather than submit to the living death that awaited them in American slavery. As the tale has it, the tribes people disembark from the ship, and as a group, turned around and walked along the water, traveling in the opposite direction from the arrival port. As they took this march together, the West Africans joined in song. They are reported to have sung a hymn in which the lyrics assert that the water spirits will take them home. While versions of this story vary in nuance, all attest to the courage in rebellion displayed by the enslaved Igbo."

      My Igbo great grandfather escaped before he could be taken away from what is now Nigeria. A lot of people belonging my two tribes were taken and there are still remnants of the slave trade in the town my dad is from since it was a major slave port. People always paint the picture that we were oblivious to what would happen to us and we stupidly filed on to ships when that was mostly untrue. Sorry to ramble but you’re the only one who brought this up.

      I wonder how many amazing artists from writers.. to stylist.. to producers.. to cinematographers and on and on and on.. who made this work of art.. who’s names will never be known! Who will never be celebrated for their work on lemonade.. I wonder how much of the artistry featured in it actually came from Beyoncé herself 🤷🏽‍♀️ she self admittedly is well know for shamelessly taking credit for other people’s artistry! She is perhaps the worlds greatest performer.. but artist.. No! Something else that has plagued the African American people is not being fully recognized for their work! When she said "you betta call becky with the good hair" she meant that as symbolism for the standard of beauty in the black comunity. Some black guys (not all) think that those beauty standards should be the ideal beauty standards on a black woman for them to date. With those ideal standards being lightskin, pretty eyes, and of course " good hair" meaning relaxed hair.

    I’m a loyal Beyoncé fan and have followed her music, career, and personal life for a while, but I had never seen this great of a review. This video made me see tones that had gone over my head and now make me see more of the artistic side of Lemonade.

    • @Montfortracing
      @Montfortracing 4 роки тому +5

      Honestly I thought the review was ok. Not one of his best. What bugged me was the fact he kept making the album only about Jay-Z's infidelity, yet there were so many historical and cultural references. It may not be a stretch to say that Lemonade is also a kind of love letter to the country black women live in. A love letter asking the country to do better, and yet there are also the themes Beyoncé includes in her album.
      Of course I'm not denying that Jay-Z's infidelity happened, but I think it would've been seen as too selfish on Beyoncé's part to only make the album about him.

    BEYONCÉ’S MIND! What never fails to amaze me is how she was able to tell the story of her marriage as a metaphor to America’s abusive relationship with black people, particularly black women, while highlighting generations of struggles and pain. She also used music genres that were originally “owned” by black people. It will remain as one of the most important cultural pieces of our time.

    after Savage went #1, Billboard this year said:
    *”Beyonce has transcended the pop-music trope of needing new hits to extend her winning streak -- her legacy is more than secure, and if anything, her fans are no doubt breathlessly awaiting a proper follow-up to 2016’s Lemonade more than a radio-ready new single. Queen Bey makes cultural artifacts now more often than solo hits, and while “Savage” is yet another nice stat for the history books, the remix doesn’t re-establish anything worth debating.”*

    Lemonade is a masterpiece!! Please do analysis to the latest album of ROSALÍA - "El mal querer" one of the best albums I've heard in recent times. Each track on the album tells the various stages of a violent and toxic relationship. It is a masterpiece, mixing flamenco with R&B. All the tracks in that album are super good!!! Essential to listen !! 😘😘

    Not going to lie. Audibly cried through at least 94% of this. Jus so much to unpack and breathe in. Heritage. Anger. Forgiveness. New Beginnings. Love and Rebirth. B sets out to not only tell her story, but the story of the black woman, hundreds of years before her. A refusal to be a part of a never ending cycle of abuse, betrayal and indifference. A willingness to believe in the promises we give. It’s an achievement-one that kept this white girl crying those ugly-face-hurt-tears. It may have a little to do with the world falling a part tonight. Thank you for this wonderful analysis. It was the perfect medicine 🍋
