free hands is very tricky but if its better i will try to exercise it very well. thank you for your excellent video.❤ I am from iran. I love people's like you. You are good master 😊
Great tutorial and perfect welding!! I think one can be assured that if he can do freehand without issues, he knows he has come long way! Love the arc shots and clarity of the video, your skills are as always fascinating and impeccable! 👍🏽
Thank you very much for this video! I struggled a lot previously with freehand and I appreciate the efforts you put into creating these videos! Amazingly helpful!!👏🏻
ya make it look SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy... been watching your videos to get the freehand technique down. I was taught laywire... been out of it a lil while and now, 50% of the time, the bottom is flat as a pancake... By code it is acceptable, However, i want more reinforcement. last thing i want is suck back on the hot pass. just got tig fingers to help as well. so now ill be doing 5/32 gap with 1/8 wire. had a bunch of coupons tqcked up with 1/8 gap and tried 3/32 wire... gotta long way to go... lol shaky.
@@X3MTIG its coming together... like i tell all the apprentices, Michael Jordan DID NOT become the way he was over night... practice practice practice... Now, are you having the tungsten straight in, aiming at center of pipe when "walking" the root?
Another great video 💪🏻 it’s always good if you can freehand because not always you can walk the torch , just wondering if you could do a free hand cap video bro keep up the good work you really have the best TIG channel out there 💪🏻💪🏻
Another excellent video, thanks for all the effort. 🙏 I asked previously if it is possible to zoom out, to see your hand position and how you feed the rod. You nail it exactly around the 8th minute. 🔨 🔥🔥🔥 There are many Freehand Root videos on Tube, most of those speed up during the process and astonishing end results. Maybe even cheated and done on the positioner? 🤔😃 Those videos frankly confused me more instead. I find your videos better, always on point and VERY helpful. Again thanks for sharing.
Hey my friend, I’m glad you like it. I’m not sure about other UA-cam video creators, but it’s easy to see if someone is cheating by looking for the root layout pattern!
I freehand all the time. i don't know how to walk the cup. probably due to lack of piping in the shop. I keep the torch pointing towards the center of the pipe. I have around 1/8" gap and 3/32 rod and tungsten. I use a thumb control rather than a foot pedal. I keep my rod 1/2 way in and out. anything I could change?
Bro i got a questions iam from germany so my englisch is Not so good do you put a Landing or root face When you Grind your pipe ? Is ist bitter with a face or without? Plz make a video how you prepair your pipe befreundet welding.thx
Hey bro, it all depends what you prefer. Some guys like little bit of land some don’t. I don’t like land on Carbon steel, but I like little bit land on stainless.
I’ve noticed all the ‘crust’ in the root inside… No way to add a back purge of gas? The root looks good but I wonder why there’s no back purge which will make that root last longer and not corrode so soon… Any reason? Thanks, great videos by the way.

If it’s working for you no need for changes, but if you would like to experiment, try walking the cup at the bottom.

Can stainless pipe welded this way also?
Yes you can!
If I don't grind start-stops, only remelt it, they can see on X-ray what? Could you make video about X-ray faults and how to fix that?
I don’t think they could see it! If you fused them good and you know what you doing, should be fine!
Could you show me how you welding cap pass freehand on small pipe?
I’ve noticed all the ‘crust’ in the root inside… No way to add a back purge of gas? The root looks good but I wonder why there’s no back purge which will make that root last longer and not corrode so soon… Any reason? Thanks, great videos by the way.
It's carbon steel. No purge required on carbon steel.
It seems like no matter what I do, or how long on amps I go it keyholes like crazy and makes a mess.
Try low and slow, until you dial in!
@@X3MTIG I found laywire on vertical plate adds a lot more material before it keyholes. Now I just need to work on back feeding for pipe
How do you purge for your tacks?
No purge here bud it’s carbon pipe !
Nice work . I know you buffed the root before the hot pass , my question is do you ever do a light grind after you do the Root Pass ?
Hey bud, yes of course, usually if I’m in tight spots, and had to do stop start more than usual!
The name of your spacing wedge.
I'm fine doing the 9-12 and 3-12 but I just can't get comfortable with 6-9 and more so 6-3, stiffing up and shaky hand get me big time
👍👍👍
