Not unfair at all. In fact, rather gentle. It went straight to the heart of their issues, but manages to do so without sounding mean. Always framing it as some kind of "appreciation". Even if it's appreciating their absurdity.
It has always been the role of the media to monitor, check, and report on those exercising governmental power. But who keeps a check on the media? That role, for better or worse, appears to have fallen on comedians.

I respect Trevor Noah immensely for this stand up routine. He didn't pull punches for either side and reminded them all where they stand and how lucky they are to be American. So much conflict in the country currently, rightfully so with so many valid and divisive issues that seem impossible to bridge the gap. Regardless of that, please remember your inalienable rights as an American, remember how many died for you to have them. Regardless of your stance, you have the right to speak your truth to anyone, peacefully and without persecution.

For those who were "pleasantly surprised" at just how good Trevor was, or may not know much about him in general, I HIGHLY recommend reading his book "Born a Crime". It's one of the best reads that I've encountered in the last decade or so. It's insightful, funny, and quite moving. His story is incredible, and just plain inspiring.

He tells the truth if you listen to him he’s amazing and telling it like it is. We all need to listen and understand. America first.
I dont think he's the greatest comedian. But he is really good at doing the "mindblown conscience of an average human, confronting modern reality" thing, which Jon Stewart pioneered (albeit strongly inspired and anticipated by George Carlin). He can dissect a news story, an individual or an institution, while making fun of every detail through some joke or digression, thus giving the viewer a broader understanding of the topic while also leading them towards a "payoff" (like the one he used at the end, here).
Of course, he has great writers too.

I have always believed that Trevor noah is a true comedic genius from his humble beginning in South Africa. The things that impressed me the most is how he has studied American politics, culture and the who is who in his profession in such a short time. Not forgetting how young and mature he is. Last I checked, we have a president that didn't use legal loopholes to pardon his own team members from their own crimes or have multiple team members telling his people to use violence against their own government (Giuliani and Bannon both directly did this to thousands of people, with Trump being implicitly supportive of their rallying)

Trevor was the perfect choice. He roasted everyone to a crisp golden brown- honest, sharp, but not cruel. His perspective as an immigrant I think is so important, he clearly sees how valuable our free press is. I hope he helped them remember how vital they are to our democracy.
