It's one thing to know Dax, the other to be able to explain it so your grandmother can understand it This guy is no doubt a GREAT TEACHER!
I feel like I learn Dax just by watching Alberto's hand gestures. 😂
An eye-talian thing
Because you said that now the only thing I am seeing is his hands 😢
Love how Alberto teaches: Example > Problem > Theory explaining the problem > Solution > Theory explaining the solution. This way you'll remember why you are doing what you are doing and HOW to solve issues.
I've watched Mastering DAX twice and I've always learned something new.
I still have many doubts about DAX and I still struggling to learn it, but when someone comes to me and ask me for some advice how to learn DAX, I always tell to study the theory first.
In my opinion there are no shortcuts on learning DAX.
Yeah, I live in Italy for a while. Grate respect for telling "it is more important to simply think and find solution and do not try to choose solution between existing ones"
Thanks for the video!!!
Ive been studying and applying DAX for almost 2yrs, and this introduction is STiLL so inspirational. The learning continues, and its a joy. Thank you.
@SQLBI this needs to become a series, this is so helpful to see DAX in action!
I find the format of this video to be incredibly useful: working through a scenario exploring different methods. Pls do more like this.
Same feeling.
I hope Sqlbi team will do these kind of series of videos.
Marco is proof that the world needs more gifted teachers. His ability to explain the theory of DAX and then translate it to practice is so much appreciated. I get DAX every time I listen to him: breaking down the logic, building the model and validating the solutions... Love it.
Even I read Dax guide and watched Mastering Dax, I still learn with your videos.
Thanks a lot…
This is a masterful video. I can't imagine how much work, time, and intentionality went into getting this exact scenario to showcase all the ins-and-outs of the solution. Absolutely excellent in every way, and I cannot thank you enough!
You're the excellent dax tutor on UA-cam
Thanks for making this content
The Quality of this video is outstanding, and explanation is at Oscar Level.
Legend will always remember the great contribution of SQLBI
I love these long-form videos! There's so much more to learn here than just the DAX functions and syntax, and even theory. I love watching the methodical stepping through from start to finish, seeing the solution evolve along the way. Using summarize to check mid-stream results is brilliant, and it is my big take-away from this one. Probably seen it done a million times, but today it struck home. Thanks!
That explanation of how to use the measure vs calculation between column aggregation vs row by row iteration was superb! I have a much better understanding why I had so many issues before because I didn't quite understand that concepts. Thank you!!
Mr Ferrari, Every single video of yours is so helpful, eye-opening and inspirational.
Amazing! I'm not an English speaker, but I understood it better than most courses in my native language.
Amazing teacher. This is only my second video that I watched from him and I love the detail he provides on each segment! Outstanding job!
Thank you for the extremely informative video . These are the type of videos that a DAX learner needs the most, since it illustrates practical methods of utilizing dax functions .
Greatest DAX mentors, thanks Alberto and Marco 👏👏👏
Now I use DAX and PBI everyday
No idea what to say Alberto. Im really happy to learn from you. One of the best videos. End to End and easy to understand. A pleasure as always! Mille grazieeeeee. Greetings from Germany!
What can I say... The way you explain the concepts is just incredible! Thank you.
Very good full example video! It's longer than normal, but I like the idea of having a solution you need to build for, how to do it, and issues that may arise. Love your content.
Alberto!
Thank you so much for this lovely video.
I enjoyed every moment and I love the way you deliver information.
The line of thought is well presented and takes the audience step by step into the world of DAX in the best way ever.
Thank you so much!
This video is an excellent introduction to the DAX language! The presenter does a fantastic job of breaking down the language into understandable concepts and walking through practical examples. I feel much more confident in using DAX after watching this.
This is a great video! Really appreciate it.
I come from Excel world. I think what you says here can be applied perfectly to Excel too. It's not about knowing how many functions, it's about how we can use the combination of functions to solve our problem. And of course, the solid foundation is required for going further.
Thank you very much. So much to learn from your channel!
I enjoyed a lot more DAX concepts and problem solving techniques and tools in one video.
Can you please do these kind of video series regularly.
Thank you so much Albero Ferrari.
I am big fan of you.
Loved this class. Do more like this Alberto. Very very good class. cheers from Brazil.
20:00 FILTER( table, filter expression). Filter() creat a row context, we need to use nevigation function related()
22:30 filter context, measure caculation is always under a filter context.
24:50 CACULATE() works with filter context, not row context, it does not need RELATED() kind of nevigation funcions.
Excelente curso, hoy me inscribí y lo mejor es que los videos tienen traducción al español. 100% recomendable. felicidades por tan excelente trabajo.
This was an awesome walk through that covered many things in a very clear delivery. Thank you!
This video explains real codes behind the written codes. Love you guys at the SQLBI.
This is an amazing video Alberto! one of the best in this field and especially for those who are in the learning phase of this amazing language. Please make more of this kind! Enjoy DAX indeed!
I am so happy to find this channel. Not only teaching the DAX , but also teaching deep and flexible thinking. Mr. Ferrari , can you do me a favor? If you can make a set of videos about PowerBI Report Builder ,Paginated Reports, I would greatly appreciate it. Looking forward to seeing the set of videos as well.
We focus on data modeling and DAX, we cannot cover everything! :)
I sincerely want to thank you for your amazing explanation DAX.
Friend from Saudi Arabia ❤️
Thanks for this clearly explained approach ., and ..............." you proof your point!" (about learning theory first and NOT to go for "Trail on error" )
Thank you Alberto. It is always relieving watching you guys cz I see a hope one day will
Master Dax. Cheers.
i bought your book and i found it is the best in the market, and your video is also the best
WOW. you guys are real gurus of DAX. I thought 1 hr is long video, but it just went by . so immersive content. understanding everything that is shown in the video and anticipating what comes next made me feel very confident that i am not a novice . Aiming towards GURU :)
We need more of such videos for: Advance Topics(DAX), please 🙏
great video ! the way of explaining how complex results can be achieved with using simple chunks of dax is awesome! little by little and little became a lot
Great master. Every time I see this video tutorial, I could get some new subtle point to understand. Enjoyable learning experience
非常喜欢这位老师的视频,一直关注着,每期必看
Your videos really teach alot of useful techniques and examples of how to apply DAX. Would love to see more of such videos where you teach how to combine different DAX functions to prepare dashboard. The concept explanation is also very important and useful..
One of the best teachers I'd the honor to learn 💪💪
absolutely incredible way to explain things. Thank you so much for your great contribution.
I loved the way the whole scenario is explained & presented.
Halfway through.. what a masterclass
Thanks a lot... this is what I needed... I know the functions, but I don't know their applications.
thanks for those videos. you made me understand why some of my formulas were not working and the logic behind at work.
Thanks, this is the best DAX tutorial I’ve seen
Very valuable practical session. Worth sending every second on it.
Great lesson Alberto! Thank you for sharing.
Awesome presentation and very good examples! Thank you so much!
I really like your videos, thanks for creating such wonderful lessons!
Difficult question Simple solution step by step... that is really nice...Thank you so much for sharing.
I followed the free Introducing DAX training offered by SQLBI and I like it very much, but I've to be honest, is because of this video here that I'm very inclined to subscribe to the Mastering DAX training course. I like the approach, that there is not a function for everything but most of the time you've to create it your own one. If Alberto can pls confirm me that Mastering DAX is following the same philosophy, very likely you'll have a new subscriber. Grazie molte
We suggest to use the free trial, so you can see how Mastering DAX is made!
Another Excellent Video! Very instructive! Thanks!

Thanks for this excellent course..!
Amazing video ! i am new to Power BI but i really love it and this example (which i replicated by myself) explains very well how DAX works; it will be long bu i will go trough all of the video as i want Power BI to be my next main tool for my next job
Great film, big thanks! I needed it :)
Stellar explanation. Thank you!
Beautifully explained. Thank you!
Really good video. Alberto is a master at explaining
This kind of foundational concept walk-thru is incredibly helpful! THANK YOU for not glossing over it.
Regarding your use-case at minutes 30 - 32 "Ship Date relying on unique Order #".
1. When determining uniqueness of [Order Number], why not just highlight 'Test'[Order Number] and see that the Count = Distinct Values, rather than bouncing back-n-forth between the Sales counts and Test counts?
2. Side note: I don't agree with your assumption that [Order Number] must be unique for your results to be valid. Partial Shipments are commonplace in nearly every sales shipping enterprise. I believe that if an order were split between 5 shipments, then you'd have to ask the user if that should be treated as 5 orders, or 1 order that aggregates [Date Shipped] as "MAX", "MIN", or "AVERAGE" for that order. After all, just because your small test-case sample doesn't contain duplicates, that assumption can fall apart when you step into Production where there are millions of orders.
Thank you so much. This is very insightful.
you saved my day, mister.
Wow Alberto, thank you very much!
Thanks Alberto, Great video as usual :) I aggree practicing without the theory is like starting building an house by the roof ;)
Amazing work !
Nice to see your long video presentation.
Did use dataset from Contoso 10M from Github. There was subtle differences between the data.
1. Sales order table was header table (i.e 1 order per row).
2. When #Orders/#All orders the number of decimal places was not identical to your presentation. This resulted in 100% appearing multiple times. I will work on it.
3. I liked your explanation of creating the table with curly braces and use it for calculation. I had come across similar exercise where shipment (processing time to be calculated was ranging from 15 min, 30 Min, 1 hour, 2 hour, 4 hour, 1 day, 2 day, > 3 days). I had built a customized table, rather than using curly braces table.
Also in this exercise i added a new column with concatenating values with number of days as < = 1days,
The sample data released on GitHub might be different that the one used in the video.
More videos like this please! Thank you.
thank you so much Alberto for this Great video
Thanks Alberto!👍
