When using cards as a wall around the sculpture isn't the final piece that much smaller since the card thickness takes up space between the front and back half? Why not remove the cards after the front is poured so the back makes contact with the front thus creating an exact registration. You can always go back and fill the seam created by the card shim?
The clay comes out pretty well. But, it’s the initial separation of the two halves that is tricky. With oil clay, you have to warm the mold enough to soften the clay.

What issues do you have with oil clay on these? Just getting the clay out of the mold?
