Hopefully moving in a few weeks, stressed about leaving clothes and shoes (being that I have 40+ pairs) behind so I want to pack neatly to save space, weight and also to bring at least 5 pairs in the check on and 3 in the carry on and two in the book bag
@@MeansToTravel actually was thinking of putting on 3/4 t shirts then a jacket and pulling them off n folding them and putting them in a bag and vacuuming it to save space
@@MeansToTravel welcome so much. I am planning on an extended trip (possibly permanent move) to Zambia this summer, so I definitely found your tips useful.
I remember Rick Steves talking about packing light where he says, "Are you going to use it ENOUGH" to warrant the extra space and weight. When my wife and I travel, we just pack a pair of sandals (Tevas) for around the accommodation and for warm weather, and wear the (good looking yet comfortable for walking) shoes we use everyday. Is packing two extra pair of shoes common? I guess it depends on whether you have a checked bag, but we travel with carry on only. There are many kinds of travelers!
Great points! It’s common to pack several pair if you are going to cities, or if you’re traveling for extended periods (such as for our 3 month trip we just returned from!). But if you’re only traveling for a week or two to a warm weather place and don’t plan a wide variety of activities, a pair of sandals and a pair of walking shoes is plenty! I was meaning for this video to be more about the packing technique and less about the shoe choice, so I’m hoping that came across!
I thought the same as you .... way too many shoes, just the footwear took up half of her suitcase. I see Eliz's response below ... I did not understand that it was mostly about packing TECHNIQUE until I read her answer below. I have found that I am much happier traveling lighter- ONE carry-on ... more that Rick Steves takes (I think males can get away with less), but along those lines.
I personally try not to take more than one pair of boots if possible, since they are so large. A good rule of thumb is to always wear the bulkiest shoes on the plane. Ankle boots can fit in the wheel wells inside a carry on or checked bag. With thigh highs, try to pack other things inside the shoe to maximize that space - but wear them on the plane if you can. Good luck! 😀
Ok Eliz, I have never used anything other than cloth bags for my shoes; however, this seems to work well for you. I'll give you another plus, you can alway use the bags for other uses should it be necessary. Good ideas though.
Whenever I traveled (23 countries), I carried only 2 pairs of footwear: summer - the sports shoes I wear on my feet & 1pair of hiking-sandals. Or if winter - 1pair of winter-boots on my feet & 1 pair of sports shoes in luggage. And for a 3 weeks travel vacation only 1 carry-on bag with 1backpack (personal bag). Travel easy, travel light.
If you can do just two pairs with the activities in your itinerary, then I agree that's definitely the way to go!!! I took two pairs of shoes + a set of cushioned insoles on my 3.5-week trip to Europe in September, and it worked out well because I was mostly just exploring around cities. Traveling light is the best!
Shoes are very very very gross with dirt and germs, so shoe bags are necessary in my opinion. I wouldn’t want the shoes I walk around outside in to touch and contaminate my clothes, toiletries, hairbrush, etc. With that, I just re-use free plastic bags from grocery stores, so there’s no need to spend money on being hygienic! 😀
Yes, be sure to follow any weight restrictions that your airline and airport have. As of now, all of our US-based air carriers do not have any weight requirements for carry on bags (and checked bags in America almost universally must be 50lbs or less before getting charged more). If you live in another country, or you are flying an airline that’s not based in the US, then you might encounter weight requirements for your carry-on bag that you’ll need to follow. Good luck and happy travels!
Oh the one shoe per plastic baggy is actually smart! I mever thought about it before
Thank you for the tips ❤❤❤
It's a game changer! Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching! 😀
These are some very creative tips
Glad you liked them! Thanks for watching! 😀

how do you gonna pack ankle-high/thigh-high boots into a suitcase along with the other boots??

Cloth bags make sense too, just gotta watch out cuz they’ll be slightly heavier than plastic! Good add, Glenn! 😀

So, no place for clothes?
I actually have a full video about how I pack a carry on that includes my shoes and clothes, so feel free to check that one out on my channel!
Very nice video
Thanks!

You're welcome! 😊
i pack 3 pairs of shoes too :) and i think they are so many :))
Haha I get that! But yeah, I like being able to have flexibility in activities when traveling. 😀
I just put my soles back to back ….

Unless you pack socks, too

Please… into the subject…
NO FLIP FLOPS PLEASE!!!
I always recommend them if someone is going to a beach or staying in a hostel, but everyone is entitled to their opinions of course!
