- Lamu is one of Kenya’s best worst kept secrets. And we have been lucky enough to spend a ton of time there, staying in a wide variety of accommodation. So in our upcoming travel vlogs we will be giving your tours of all of the best accommodation in Lamu and Shela!
The first in this series is an oasis in the middle of Shela Village. Jua House is situated in the heart of Shela. Different to most accommodation on the island, in the sense that it is not very close to the water. But this isn’t an issue at all. Besides the magnificent rooftop view, being situated in the village is a unique and great experience. Allowing you to get a more local experience, while still having the luxury of the water front houses.
Lamu continues to grow in popularity, and it’s easy to see why. And part of the appeal is the rich culture of the area. So getting to experience that on your doorstep is a definite plus.
We highly recommend Jua House if you are visiting Lamu and Shela. And we hope our vlog convinces you to stay there! We feel like it is a great place to stay, especially if you are on a bit more of a budget.

i believe the building you were admiring is the mosque. stayed at the house opposite the custard apple tree when i visited Lamu.

Hi, beautiful and helpful video!., my wife and i we are going on February 2023 2 weeks to Kenya, actually just Lamu and Diani Beach....i had reserved ( can be change) dates like this: 5 days to Lamu and 9 days in Diani Beach but now i am thinking to do 6 and 8 or maybe 7 and 7...what do you think...?., also first i did booked the Banana house ( not far from Shela Village but now i am thinking to book the Suite room in Shela Village with balcony 8 looks clean than the Banana house.....what about staying in Manda...?., looks great!.Thank you !, kind regards.Marcelo
