I noticed I fell into this vicious cycle after I couldn't keep up with the study, had to retake an exam and there were no time left to relax. Letting yourself a small distraction feels like a simple way to let yourself rest a little, but it's far from actual rest. Social media don't let you take a break, it's just a noise among other information, it only makes fatigue worse. The only time I was productive this year is when I listened one music track on repeat for 8 hours while reading articles needed for my coursework.
Its been several years now, at the beginning of each college semester i feel like i need to make friends , go out more and do stuff , but as the semester progresses and the workload and exams become overwhelming , i am almost forced to be isolated at home with my college books.. either i study or bing watch the internet... over these years it always frustrates me to know that i tried several times to find a good friend (the type that stick together all the time) someone i can share with my good and bad moments. But until now that friend hasn't come yet. Which is why the internet is the only one taking his role until he comes

Its true that people in the real world are classified as "BrainRipe" whilst those on the virtual world as "BrainRot" , , but funny enough , these terms came solely from internet civillization and serious people dont know or dont give a shit about these things like [your] parents. Now if you are ambitious(which netweebes can never aspire to be), you can suggest from this that information has gotten wayy to informal that terms nowadays used seem stubborn to old people and in formal cases. Gen alpha/gen z here (2011), being in this generation, I can confirm this is true because the trends and stuff are going a little bit far, trends are fine with me, heck I even participate with trends, but brain rot and stuff is a whole new level of slang.
Thank you for this video. TikTok used to be a huge brain rotter for me, but I managed to entirely quit it. Then comes UA-cam shorts, and it has been distracting me a lot. I have to work on reducing my screen time on this brain rot thing.
if brain rot doesn't just mean learning and saying "gyatt" "im the alpha" "huggy wuggy" and "no diddy" repeatedly and instead spending much more time on the internet, congratulations, you caught me red handed, even though i mostly just listen to music.
6 years ago when I was waiting for my pizza at Pizza Hut scrolling on my phone to pass time people would look at me like a weirdo, now whenever I tried to start a face-to-face conversation in public space with my friend we will get looked at like bunch of weirdos
Oh this is new im surprised too.. This vid is just about what Brainrot is and how it happens . Good to release a vid about it regardless though as it spreads the word . For me, my dopamine receptors are fried and although it does require some time to recover , I can feel it creep in as soon as I play a game or do other things and my brain feels warm and fried and not free and aware with energy
I only have brainrot during summer break bc I have nothing to do. However, during school months, I don’t go on TikTok or any social media platforms. I’m too busy studying for tests and doing endless counts of homework.
One thing I understood to keep myself away from doom scrolling or watching hours and hours of yt is picking up a hobby , like blender or coding , it isn’t too much of a drastic change and I actually don’t feel bad for spending my time on it because I know I’m doing something productive , it has also made stop playing video games ( still play them once in a while but only for relaxing )
Brainrot has been disturbing me for a long time while I was studying, I have somethings called “resilience” and “resistance”, which means I can recover quickly and withstand my worthless activities. It’s important for self-awareness to take action.
This video is so incredibly useful. It really made me think about what I was doing with my time. I hope this video gets tons of views. People need to see it!
That explains really well my problems with focusing on my work as well as my anxiety too. Though it may be something else, i still find this extremely helpful and as a 7th grader, I feel like I still have time to drag myself out of this loôphole. Still, thank you for this informative video and I hope your channel will grow big one day, i promise, one day
fun fact: brainrot enables the brain to practically go into a state of trance, due to this plaque can more easily enter the brain due to no thinking. it can literally up the chances of dementia, so yeah.
Awesome video dude! I’m right now trying to reduce and possibly entirely stop my brain from rotting. Although my brain is technically less brain rotted than most of my generation, I still want to work on getting my brain to get a better attention span (that’s gonna be hard with my adhd/autistic brain-) and that feeling of being “That girl” (the idea of a girl has it all together, it’s kinda my motivation to become a better person in a not so toxic way). This video was very informative and the visuals were very simple which I enjoyed! Keep the good work up, you’re helping lots of people!
Honestly I can’t watch short form content for too long or my brain starts to feel dead and I have to stop. Although it was still fun too watch how everyone else was effected.
One day, I stopped a rickshaw (common vehicle for taxis in india) to go to someplace. When I climbed in I realised that on the handle of the rickshaw (similar to that of a bicycle and is used to control it) the driver had tied his phone on it and believe me, 98% of the time WHILE DRIVING, he was watching REELS on it and did not even bother to look on the road and was just accelerating it. Only time I saw him look away was while turning. BTW he also almost killed us both and barely saved from crashed into a bike. This is not related to students but is an example of how severely brain rot can affect you.
I think Vsauce once mentioned: Being bored: Feels long in the short-term, feels short in the long-term Watching TV: Feels short in the short-term, feels short in the long-term Having high-density fun with friends: Feels long in the short-term, feels long in the long-term To feel like you're making the most out of life, do a lot of social activities that you can easily distinguish from each other (sports, then arts, then... etc) IIRC, it's his Time Illusions video
I couldn’t agree more with the message this video sends. I just wanted to add some of my own advice with this comment. It’s so important not to put yourself up to uncomfortably high standards to make your life match the nitpicked good memories people post on social media. You just need to remember that life will never always be “perfect” like social media posts make it out to be and that you as a person still have a lot of time to experience it. When you see other people having fun or being really successful online, don’t beat yourself up about it, because like you, they are human and have their struggles. They just don’t post them so their account doesn’t look bad. You probably wouldn’t either. Instead of glossing over the highlights of others, work on self-improvement and discovery. Hit the gym, go to college, join a club like the video said, travel, or do whatever you’d like to. These experiences are going to help connect you to real human beings and believe me, once you’ve established a good friend circle, you will begin to feel less affected by social media. You will truly feel like you have a place in life. You wouldn’t even care about how much “better” others might be than you because, you’re happy. There’s no pressure on you to do anything. Your life is your own life. Just take your time. Don’t let anyone, let alone social media, dictate how you should live it or how quickly.
I'm glad that I don't have a rotten brain, I do communicate with friends a lot more than the larger zone of the internet, I also watch informational videos a lot more than just scrolling through shorts, and I rarely use tiktok or instagram or other social media apps that contain short videos we scroll through, sometimes I feel unmotivated, but that's usually if the family makes an arguement that I am hooked in, so, I still have the motivation of looking at good moments, and one more thing is that when I look at great memories I recorded with my phone, it makes me feel happy, especially if it's a video where maybe me and my friends hang out on a week end, or just fun memories I recorded, that's my dopamine, and I also like making random videos (no I'm not uploading them I'm only sharing them with my friends personally) to spend my time doing stuff, but yeah, I do fill in times where I do nothing with stuff that does not rot my brain.
The worst part is when EVERY SINGLE HUMAN IN THE CLASSROOM is brainrot. Like, what the actual hell are we supposed to do? Best I can do is help the teacher to deal with the classroom the quickest way possible, win win.
You saved me truely. I removed all the "Brainrot" and just those incredibly stupid videos to "Do not reccomend again" Now all i will get is videos of studying tips, aviation, and just geniuenly stuff that i would like to watch and is actually useful
Something I do to avoid doomscrolling is to use a timer on my phone. When the timer's up, it closes the app for the rest of the day. At first, I felt empty and needed to get back on Instagram, UA-cam, or Twitter. The important thing about this and the piece of advice for all who read this comment is that you must force yourself to do an activity you may find boring (like going outside, reading a book, or studying) because the beginning might be hard, but when you do better activities more regularly, it will feel easier to stay away from the phone.
Although I already know all of this , the segment where you were going through the cycle described my daily so accurately I am honestly a bit shocked, I don’t know how I ended up here lol wow crazy
This isn’t brain rot for me at this point anymore, I just wanna be done with existence once and for all but I can’t cause I don’t really have the chance. But once I do get a chance I’ll definitely be out. It’s pretty difficult to be productive in a world u no longer want to live in. But I just gotta pass my time somehow you know, just existing through the day. So I just pick up social media for a few hours or spend the entire day staring at the ceiling. It’s so difficult to pass each day; it’s too long. I wish this could stop, I feel guilty about this brain rot but I can’t do anything to stop it. Don’t tell me to ‘exercise’ or ‘eat healthy’ or just ‘get over it’ im so freaking tired of listening to it all, makes me want to quite being here even more. I feel like this is another big problem of this generation. Thanks for listening to my rant that no one irl will.
I think from your comment that you're alone, or regretted by people in general. If this is the case then find someone who really cares for you. it may be hard but try, i also suggest you go to therapy they are the best ones who can help you.
I know my comment probably wont help but no matter how powerless you feel its never too late. You can always just try to fight it and even if you fail its still a step in the right direction. For me therapy helped, but its understandable if you dont want to do that. You could try finding new hobbies or friends that could make you feel less alone, i know it might be hard but you are worth every effort. I havent been in the same situation as you and i couldnt know just how you feel, but I still think that no matter how bad it might be you can overcome it, no matter how hopeless it might seem or how many times you fail. Heck, failing is part of the process and just the fact you want to change is geting you closer to whatever you strive for. Even if i dont know you im really rooting for you and im sorry if anything came off as rude or not understanding.
@@hope2627If you feel that way, you need to take a long vacation somewhere, perhaps somewhere walkable with accessible hobbies in physical places. Whether it be Japan, Peru, France, etc. just get out and do something. Screw your comfort zone, you're already uncomfortable.
Now I know why my brother decided to mine that minecraft diamond ore just because he wanted to mine it instead of having me mine it for him with a fortune 3 pick.
I was born in 1964. And I had trouble enough focussing through college 1982 to 1986, but somehow I made it through. Earned reasonable grade 3.4 out of 4.0 for BChE (Bachelor of Chemical Engineering) with a Minor in Russian. My hometown's public schools (Cinnaminson, NJ) were EXCELLENT. I went nursery school right up to graduation from high school. They required we learn a 2nd language in Middle School: grades 6,7,8. I chose Russian out of the 4 languages offered: Russian, French, German, Spanish, because I thought it would be the hardest. By the time I got to high school, 9th grade, since I had already put in the effort, I wanted to continue with Russian, which I did through into college (U of Delaware), finally qualifying with the ACTR = American Council of Teachers of Russian, went to USSR for 7 weeks in Moscow + half a week in Leningrad. But graduate school was a real cold hard shock. I was not prepared for how insanely hard the abstraction of mathematics would be. I was in graduate school from 1988 to 2000, earning my Masters in Math on a paper by Otto Holder on the differential transcendence of the Gamma Function, to my PhD in math on differential resolvents. I had EXTREME struggle trying to focus in grad school on the abstract math. Now, I gained a "second wind" in life, returning to community college in 2005 to take two courses in C++, 1 semester Chinese, then 4 semesters of French, and finally completed a Biotechnology Associate of Science in 2009. Had it not been for bitch of a teacher who taught Microbiology, I'd have had a perfect 4.0 average at that college, now Rowan College. I earned a 'B', 84% average, in that course. I have NO idea how I could have done any of that had I had the distraction of the internet around. To this day I own only a flipphone. No smartphone. Impossible to move controls on a screen. You need buttons.
i like seeing self improvement videos like these that are actually meaningful. I suggest for people to read books as well the scrolling motion is also present in books :)

Gen alpha/gen z here (2011), being in this generation, I can confirm this is true because the trends and stuff are going a little bit far, trends are fine with me, heck I even participate with trends, but brain rot and stuff is a whole new level of slang.
One of the only channels that knows how to do an ai thumbnail correctly ✅

yeah
Not really my struggle but this video makes me desire to go outside more. Truly appreciate for making this video!
"Womp womp" Is the biggest brainrot of all time.
Seeing it as the response to any sensible statement, especially a serious and sensitive one, absolutely infuriates me like hell
@@daniyal7903 true. R3tards exist.
no its skibidi toilet rizz ohio baby gronk
these are just slangs nothing special. The actual brainrot come from the origins of these slangs
Underrated video man. Keep up the good work and continue making people aware of this issue!
3:12 oh, so that’s why I have a hard time studying. I’m commenting too much, saving memes too much, and watching too much.
genuinely so useful, i hope i can stop my social media addiction.
5:59 listen to music, play your favorite game, not online, go camping
The brain rot is real. I’m watching this video to delay my study and now I’m about to click on another.
shame for those who have fallen for those, but I still spend times doing similar stuff like gaming, wasting time and procrastinate
I’m almost 1 year sober of UA-cam shorts
Edit: and also I don’t watch tiktok or instagram or anything like that
really a nice way id recommend is just to take jogs, hike, talk to friends regularly, maintain a schedule.
I found this video while scrolling down the youtube homepage, ADDICTIVELY.
That explains really well my problems with focusing on my work as well as my anxiety too. Though it may be something else, i still find this extremely helpful and as a 7th grader, I feel like I still have time to drag myself out of this loôphole. Still, thank you for this informative video and I hope your channel will grow big one day, i promise, one day
fun fact: brainrot enables the brain to practically go into a state of trance, due to this plaque can more easily enter the brain due to no thinking. it can literally up the chances of dementia, so yeah.
source?
it was a joke man but legit i feel like it might be real considering neurons just turn off without ANY brain activity... btw 29 likes what in the what
@@superpear64Y'know you could just disclose that fact because stating something you have no idea is true...
@@EEE-1409 ik but i feel like if i did that it wouldnt really get so many likes and not saying it was a joke makes it haha funnier
@@superpear64 that wasnt a joke, that was misinformation
in a normal study, you just have to read stuff on your study, walks or exercises, do it but only half your time
Awesome video dude! Keep the good work up, you’re helping lots of people!
this one deserves to be boosted
So thats why i feels like it was just 20 minutes but in reallity 4 hours has pass by
I need to send this to every single of my friend
"You drag yourself out of bed,
Already dreading the day ahead"
SICK BARS MANNN 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Honestly I can’t watch short form content for too long or my brain starts to feel dead and I have to stop. Although it was still fun too watch how everyone else was effected.
Haha I love the free transcript of the whole video in the description
One day, I stopped a rickshaw (common vehicle for taxis in india) to go to someplace. When I climbed in I realised that on the handle of the rickshaw (similar to that of a bicycle and is used to control it) the driver had tied his phone on it and believe me, 98% of the time WHILE DRIVING, he was watching REELS on it and did not even bother to look on the road and was just accelerating it. Only time I saw him look away was while turning. BTW he also almost killed us both and barely saved from crashed into a bike.
This is not related to students but is an example of how severely brain rot can affect you.
I wish this video existed 4 years ago
And that's why I never touched Tiktok nor Instagram.
The fact that I have to tell this to my parents... the situation is getting way out of hands
Never watching short form content was a good idea
This video feels so saddening and yet so true
I think Vsauce once mentioned:
Being bored: Feels long in the short-term, feels short in the long-term
Watching TV: Feels short in the short-term, feels short in the long-term
Having high-density fun with friends: Feels long in the short-term, feels long in the long-term
To feel like you're making the most out of life, do a lot of social activities that you can easily distinguish from each other (sports, then arts, then... etc)
IIRC, it's his Time Illusions video
Thanks!
Well the dopamine is the reasons why we can't stop scrolling through phones or playing to much games
Ive scrolled so much that i cant scroll any more and my brain removed it as a feature from youtube lol.
this guy literally described my everyday life in 2 minutes
The worst part is when EVERY SINGLE HUMAN IN THE CLASSROOM is brainrot. Like, what the actual hell are we supposed to do? Best I can do is help the teacher to deal with the classroom the quickest way possible, win win.
You’re not a loser, you’re just a missed opportunity.
-Wise man
"Brain rot isn't some scary disease from a horror movie"
nah, it's even worse
You saved me truely. I removed all the "Brainrot" and just those incredibly stupid videos to "Do not reccomend again" Now all i will get is videos of studying tips, aviation, and just geniuenly stuff that i would like to watch and is actually useful
Bro thats just social media addiction. Brainrot are the tiktok trends that are mostly watched by gen alpha (skibidi toilet, sigma, ecc..)
Although I already know all of this , the segment where you were going through the cycle described my daily so accurately I am honestly a bit shocked, I don’t know how I ended up here lol wow crazy
exactly! i can relate so much to this video!
I think you should find something to distract yourself that is fun and not internet related like a hobby
Dawg you are on a whole different level 😭
Thank you so much man.I really needed this!
Glad it helped!
Now I know why my brother decided to mine that minecraft diamond ore just because he wanted to mine it instead of having me mine it for him with a fortune 3 pick.
Ughhhh this. This has destroyed my life. It has consumed me, I don't know anything any longer, idk wtf happend
Now, I gained a "second wind" in life, returning to community college in 2005 to take two courses in C++,
1 semester Chinese, then 4 semesters of French, and finally completed a Biotechnology Associate of Science in 2009.
Can we stop using brainrot in normal conversation. It’s becoming brainrot itself
And this is the whole reason why I refuse to install any kind of social media (except UA-cam and Discord, if you count them as such).
I always do studying in the morning right after eating breakfast and also i do no all nighters, its really useful.
i like seeing self improvement videos like these that are actually meaningful. I suggest for people to read books as well the scrolling motion is also present in books :)
6:10 I wonder how that talk would go lol
