    Hey Chuck, a trick for you - if you need to get dirt out and gravel in a tight crawl, shovel it into buckets and put the lid on the bucket. Roll the bucket in front of you as you crawl. Much easier than dragging bags of gravel or humping buckets of dirt. Works great. Keep smiling!

      Hi Joe, 😀😀😀 Maybe watch a few more of our videos and you will see us bring gravel in by the bucket, Through the vent, And even on a conveyor belt.. The reason we bring gravel by the bag is for my help. Much easier for them to throw a bag of gravel. Thanks for the comment and tip!!

    Chuck you sir are an Iron Man. I have respect for you as I have just finished a French drain of my own. It was about 80 feet and in the Georgia heat so I am about dead! Watching you work I feel your pain and marvel at your seemingly tireless pace. Nothing but respect.

    Hi. Love the videos. I'm in Wisconsin and have a driveway drain. It goes to two drywells but they overflow with a lot of rain. I want to buypass the first and replace the second one with a culvert sump pit that goes down below the frost line.
    A few questions.
    Can I use a heater like that offered by the French drain man to keep the pump running in winter?
    Given how critical this situation is due to possible house flooding if the drain doesn't work, should I have a monitor or something else in case the pump fails?

    Would the system be improved by wrapping the pump pit in geofabric filer fabric to keep soil out?

    Mr chuck.I need to go to street storm drain next but the halfway collection point is low and I feel I’ll have to keep the slope even lower making me go too low too street. Is there a solution?

    thanks for taking a second to show the different fittings! Quick question someone might know, when you put a sump in out in the middle of a field is there an existing power source that you plug it into? What are some best practices for that?

    I’m working on HUGE drainage project in my back yard. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. I just wish the damn rain storms we’ve been getting EVERY DAY here in the greater Birmingham area would stop. I’m tired of working in a muddy mess. Normally, this time of year, it’s really dry and hot. Ever since I started digging, it’s been only in the low 80s. The humidity though has been TERRIBLE. The constant storms are delaying my progress. It’s annoying.

    Chuck, you answered all my questions. Now I know the dry well won't work for me. I'm in Ohio and when it rains, it takes several days for the lawn to dry out. All the ground water gradually filters into my basement sump before getting pumped out. I can see now I will need one or 2 catch basins and a sump basin to pump out the water before it gets to my basement. I should be able to tie that system into my existing street drain that my basement sump uses.

    If I have the drain coming in the sump well at a lower level, will the water not come in well and back up in the drain line cause the level of water is over the end of drain pipe?

    I’m thinking the use of the term dry well might be misused here. Wet well is a pump submerged in water in a tank which activates when a it get full. Dry well is an above ground pump that sucks from a lower cavity of water. That’s how I found this video anyways. Looking for wet well vs dry well lift station alternatives

    up north, sump pumps in yards during winter. Do people just remove the sump pump during freezing weather? I am assuming yes.

    To test, you should fill the catch basin. Shooting water down the pipe doesn't show if it has proper slope and if it will function as designed when the rain is coming into it.

    There seemed to be an awful lot of dirt/sand/roots/leaves/whatever in the sump basin... Don't you have to worry about the dirt destroying the sump pump? Can it handle pumping out dirt/sand? (In particular, I was concerned about the holes in the bottom of the basin, which was pushing up dirt with the ground water leveling...)

    U can put a pop up on the top of the flo-well lid so if it fills it will desperse on the lawn, is this true

    • @juicebox22a
      @juicebox22a 5 років тому +1

      Jacob Mischler In theory, yes you can. In practice, the better idea is to move the water to the curb drain if possible. Those pop up emitters tend to flood the area of yard around them, making a mess.

      Leonard Holt funny you should say that. I was just telling someone the other day. I have installed 3 different types of French drains in the past month. Traditional French drains with - solid perforated pvc pipe/gravel, corrugated perforated , and one NDS EZflow 10”. The gentleman asked “so which one is better?” Told him I don’t know. All I know is each is working for the area they were installed in.
      And yes. Acting like he is spitting a bunch of new info. People been doing all of it for 3 decades or more.

    Should the plastic sump pump basin with holes in it have fabric wrapped around it and gravel around it?? I have clay with poor drainage. I think clay would plug up the basin. The fabric and gravel would filter out most of the particles I think. Anyone have experience with clay and sump pumps?? Thanks

    • @butterpecanrican_
      @butterpecanrican_ 3 роки тому

      I know this is 2 years old, but am answering anyway lol. We have clay and surrounded the outside of our basin with landscaping fabric to keep sediment out as much as possible. It's been about a month and it's been working beautifully. You'll need to put a LOT of holes in your basin as it now takes longer to fill up because of the fabric.. at least that's been our experience.. the hell do we know lol

    Ohio here, I have some drainage issues in my back yard, I have areas that have standing water a week after rain and even if we get a dry stretch its basically like a swamp (smell & all). Im not in the country and im pretty sure there was never a septic system. But anyways I need to buy a earth auger for a fence project and was wondering if using the earth auger would help in running a few trenches or basins? Anyone ever use one to do this? I wont be doing this by hand thats for sure lol.

    Where’s the gravel that’s supposedly around the basin? Looks like this was just a poor installation job on the initial drywell. The drywell is nothing more than a temporary holding vessel that holds the water until the ground can accept it. Great job, but all you did was shift the burden from a single homeowner’s water issue to the local community as now the city’s storm water collection system has to handle it.

    • @butterpecanrican_
      @butterpecanrican_ 3 роки тому

      What else is he supposed to do with the water? Have a company come pick it up? The water ultimately comes from storms, that's what the city's storm water collection is for. So this homeowner isn't allowed to use it to collect his storm water?
