We learned the very 1st teqnique in BLET. One of the guys in my class who's proficient in half a dozen martial arts, previous sheriff's deputy with 4 years experience, and who still competes, showed that if the attacker knows what their doing this teqnique is very much useless. 1) If they throw their arms out far enough on the buck, you can't reach in and grab their arms. 2) When practicing these moves using family members, my 19 year old sister was unefected by the buck. Since she rides horses, as soon as she took the mount, she locked her legs around my waist and the buck only resulted with her moving with my body. I couldn't even get to the second step in the escape. Still better than nothing and worth learning. Just wanted to throw that out their. Love your videos!
The trap and roll is an effective escape. However, it cannot be the only escape an officer knows as it can easily be defeated, as your sister did. When chaining escapes such as this and the elbow escape it can be quite effective. It's apparent that the instructor here is not familiar with jiu jitsu or mma as some of the minor details are taught incorrectly. That, and he moves awkwardly.
My suggestion is to find a Gracie Certified LEO and having show you proper traps and weight distribution. With a heavier and resisting opponent- proper technique is a most.
I had high hopes with the first trap and roll did at least some things right, but then he goes and says "stab him with your pen and strike him from under mount". I was surprised he didn't come out with "just stand up"
I see a lot of negative comments but keep in mind this is just some very basic movements that could work. As with any martial arts or defensive tactics you should continue to train and build from the very basics. The idea is this is better than just laying there getting beat to death. Also the moves are meant to be explosive. And lastly this was taught to my academy class years ago. Stay dangerous
It is a very basic movement...and he’s showing it incorrectly. The arm trap is fine. However, he isn’t blocking a leg on the same side and he’s not bridging to the appropriate angle. That’s why he’s getting flamed. He clearly doesn’t really know what he’s doing.

As someone who was taught this exact technique in PT with a partner 3 times my size and was able to get out from under him this works.
