The guitarist was working with a record company (American records I think) and was here in Nashville for this band they signed. Anyway, we got to talking and he said he was from silver lake and I jokingly asked how Perry was doing and he said he use to be in a band with him and I asked if it was Psi Com and he was like no way you heard of us!? I was like bro, I love you guys! And I sung the lyrics to city of 9 gates and he gave me like 100$ for that. He was sort of a record company grease ball but still was a great experience.
one thing to grasp about Perry is that guy was on a quest- for experiences for drugs for sex for life for music for connection. maybe thats why psi com was a one and done- guy wanted to go harder perhaps. i really dig psi com dont get me wrong. especially if i was getting ready to go out to the goth club. the difference tho is that psi com is this gothy post punk band and JA is to me, a los angeles psychedelic punk rock band with a metal guitarist who came around to love and rockets and the cure while playing w eric and perry. daves tones change and find color. hes so much better than either a hair metal guitarist or just a run of the mill punk chord changer. and eric lays down a deeper dubbier druggier harder foundation that psi com. really the unit of janes is all this post punk influence along with bowie and 70s rock and zeppelin as well as fishbone and bad brains and siouxsie and joy division and thats why they rule so hard.
This is like Siouxie meets Bauhaus. Great kinda obscure goth release! Even less people would know of it if Perry didn't become famous later. I also did find this because of Jane's, who are one of my favorite bands. I love the very different Perry vocals here, and that bass tone is awesome.
I have this Compact Disc, I was reminded I own it while watching the Foo Fighters movie Studio 666. They referenced Jane's Addiction, and the symbol in the movie is the same as on the disc I have.
This showed up at WCSB in Cleveland back in the day. The cover caught my eye first; the tunes within did not disappoint. It was some years later before I found out who was singing - of course now I wonder that I didn't hear it at the time, but it is a different vocal style from JA!
+Hugo Gonzalez Yeah,it's Perry Farrell's first best-known first Band...(did he record anything else before these days? I'm pretty sure he had some Punk/Hardcore background..."Psi-Com" is more of a creative leaning toward Goth)
Post punk done well. Thumbs up for this. Thank you for sharing. Not much in common with JA but good in its own right. I like Perry's vocals here, though not in his mature style.
Crazy, Im just hearing this for my first time. Saw Janes in 91, pornos, etc, but never heard of this. Its good, would be cool if Janes covered one of these songs now. Strange theres only 431 views, thats thousands too little. First song's riff reminds me of killing joke.
Human Condition, that time change at the end .... I had this album in the early 90s and really liked it.... Not as good as Jane's but you get glimpses of the greatness to come ....
I was lead here by Aaron Shear. It's a beautiful moment in a family's finite footing on the earth to be let into ones past, and learn of the gems that time often suppresses. Thank you Aaron. I too am shocked by the lack of appreciation... my opinion is not to make waves, but if all thats is truth probably sown from Alpha to a quick egressing of Omega ; after a harvests reaping, Mr. Ferrell's work peaked and dissolves after the music of psi com. But I guess that is what he wanted apparently "he makes a great pet". I just wish there was more.
First thoughts are Bauhaus and Siouxie banshees. Prefer Jane's Addiction as the band are funkier and Farells vocal echoplex and multiple layers just adds a huge wall of sound. This is great though.
This band been listening to a lot of PiL. Good stuff...more interesting personalised vocal delivery than JA, probably due to much more space in the mix, Perry's not fighting a wall of sound
I'm listening now for the first time and will settle the argument once and for all after giving a listen. I'm hearing Siouxie, PIL....and The Damned, esp last song "Search for Jehovah while he may yet be found"~ Isaiah
There’s this Psi Com song I can’t find anywhere since the UA-cam video was removed! It was titled ‘them’ not theme, but them, I think.. Because it’s not theme, it was a different song! Anybody have access to their full discography?
Is it just me or did he never use his lower register again? Maybe I missed some releases where he switched it up but he was fine iMHO in both zones, would have been cool to hear him break it out at least once in a while.
It doesn’t sound like pornography. I’d say more it sounds more like joy division. Some parts of it sound like the song I Remember Nothing off unknown pleasures. IRN isn’t a happy sounding song like most of unknown pleasures.
Before there was Jane's Addiction, there was this gem of a band!!

Thanks for sharing this. These songs have been echoing in the back of my brain decades.
Who would've thought, Perry and co were huge fans of Siouxsie And The Banshees and Cocteau Twins. Good stuff.
i was in on this band years ago...love it today. Glad more people are hearing it.
One of the best bands EVER
I can't stop listening to 80s underground. Post-punk and goth forever ☠🏴☠️🌵
man love this record since a lot years ago i found it here in YT.
Perry is right up there as one of my favourite artists of all time. Has always been great
Was great
Nothing great about him, very overrated and mid.

Haters be hating
Bass, vocals, atmosphere. This is perfect.
Ive been learning these bass lines. Killer
i first heard this when i was 16. i am about to turn 39. it took me some years to fully appreciate this album.
here i am 5 years later! hahaha
Bought this album at Best buy in Tulsa around 96 not knowing what it was but glad I found it very trippy
Psi Com love them ❤😮
I still have this !!!
This is a fucking badass album
Yesss
I want more bands like this. Let's do this
Check out rebel christening if you haven't already somewhat similar
Check out Sods - Under En Sort Sol
Red Temple Spirits
What a talented band!
That bass line on City Of 9 Gates tho!
I remember buying this on Vinyl at Reckless Records in Chicago 30 years ago (maybe more).
i bought a rare live cd of Mike Doughty from GEMM via Reckless Records.
me too... It's aged very well

Jane's Addiction is heavy metal!
This sounds a mixture of Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy and Siouxsie and the banshees.
Trying to peg down Perry is a hard thing. He's very much his own thing creatively.
Xiola was 14 or 15 when "Three Days" transpired.
Xiola Blue passed at 18 in NYC from dancing with brownstone.
First time hearing it...sounds good👍

Killing Joke too
Gran banda!!! El bajista suena increible!

cool story gramps
wow great music
Beautiful

¡¡¡Simply amazing!!!
I have this album because of this channel and also because Jane’s Addiction
Ahhh, now I know where the Xiola reference from "Three Days" is all about. I have been a Jane's fan for 27 years. How did i NOT know about this????
I just discovered this too. I feel ashamed it took me this long...
Bill Goat what do you mean?
@@Thatguy55595 "I miss you my dear Xiola. I prepared a room tonight. City of candles..." - Three Days.
I hear a lot of similar vocal phrasing in Xiola and Three Days.
I remember buying this cassette tape when it was reissued. It's still awesome today.
Good album , heard this like 15 yrs ago
+Hugo Gonzalez Yeah,it's Perry Farrell's first best-known first Band...(did he record anything else before these days? I'm pretty sure he had some Punk/Hardcore background..."Psi-Com" is more of a creative leaning toward Goth)
Philip Archer only thing i kno he did prior to J.A.
I would have liked to see them live.
I purchased this CD in a stupid Fnac store in Paris back in 1993 when I was only 16. Yeah.
perry has the spirit of a native american inside of him and its beautiful.
Great band!
Post punk done well. Thumbs up for this. Thank you for sharing. Not much in common with JA but good in its own right. I like Perry's vocals here, though not in his mature style.
Hat tip here..... that outro.. 🎸👍🇬🇧👌
Bought this years ago... Interesting!

Gran gran disco
Love this
The Year i was born!
Goth Rock Rulz!
Buena honda. Saludos desde PERÚ.
This is some good music
man back when perry could wale...
I don't like the cover art work, but absolutely love the music. One of Perrys best records. Sad to see him become the Madonna of alternative music.
Perry Ferrell 👌👌👍👍❤️❤️
Great front man

Very good, I enjoyed a lot.
Guitar work is a lot like Souxsie and the Banshees.
Actually everything sounds like them. xD
I thought PiL too
Joy Division is a major influence too
Even the voice is similar. Superb class.
First thoughts are Bauhaus and Siouxie banshees. Prefer Jane's Addiction as the band are funkier and Farells vocal echoplex and multiple layers just adds a huge wall of sound. This is great though.
I love this stuff
First song reminds me of a combination between Joy Division and The Cult Dreamtime album.
I agree!!
March Violets too
@@collexions Kind of "Snake Dance-y", or maybe "Lights go out". :)
Good observation. I'm glad you are receptive
Wow.
This band been listening to a lot of PiL. Good stuff...more interesting personalised vocal delivery than JA, probably due to much more space in the mix, Perry's not fighting a wall of sound
Kind of reminds me of Death Cult too. Definitely hear the PiL influence with Perry here.
Siouxie and the Banshees more like.
Excellent observation....
I think the music in Jane's was stronger though ....
This is such a fascinating album.
@@earring1 Good call on early Cult

wow
so fucking sick

halfpipefreak definitely! The song Winds sounds like it may be inspired by the work on the Pornography album
Siouxie and the Banshees more like.
It doesn’t sound like pornography. I’d say more it sounds more like joy division. Some parts of it sound like the song I Remember Nothing off unknown pleasures. IRN isn’t a happy sounding song like most of unknown pleasures.
Not really. More Killing Joke
♥
Perry Farrell!
Not a fan of Janes addiction at all but this is some great post punk. It’s a shame he didn’t continue this direction. Amazing baselines too
Sounds like INTIMACY from Terminator
la classe non è acqua
Sounds like Perry wanted to be another version of Jaz Coleman.
perry farrell
This is focussed.
🎵🎶💙🎵🎶💙🎵🎶💙🦇
good as fuck
This band was better than Jane's Addiction
❤😅
This doesn't sound anything like Perry from later years. I would never have been able to tell.
Clay Mation His heroin use fundamentally changed his voice. I’m not going to decry or defend it: but both iterations were pure fire.
Yes it does, easy to tell it's him. Also has a Jazz Coleman influence too and obviously he has been listening to Killing Joke's debut album!
An up tempo The Cure with a more metal New Wave sound... Not bad, but I really prefer Jane's Addiction.
Not hearing The Cure here at all.
I'd say post punk not gothic punk new punk more
perry should’ve stuck to this instead of ending up in a glam metal band.
pass.
