Lessons Learned from the 2019 Minnesota bear hunt

- It was the toughest year I can remember for abundance of natural foods. I was really grateful to get a bear and here I explain some of the things that went wrong and some of the things that went right from the bear hunting season.
If hunting were easy, it wouldn't be fun. I love the challenge of figuring it out, individual patterns and adapting to what you learn. Sometimes we make the right decisions, many times we don't.
Needed to find this one today.
2019 was my first tagged bear. and it happened on the 3rd day of the season in wisconsin. i agree, beyond the first 4 or 5 days chances were diminished based on the kill numbers
Right on.
Too much bragging. There's no need to brag.
Didn't really think there was bragging.
What would you recommend for a no bear baiting state?
Some western states offer good opportunity for spot and stalk hunts if there is open country. But if you're in forested area and can't bait it's pretty tough. Some people organize large drives if the wooded areas are right for that, others try to hunt over orchards or natural food sources. My suggestion is to go on a bear hunt in another state if you really want to have a good chance to get a bear.
@@BowhuntingRoad oh ok
Love watching your videos Bernie. You mentioned something about using barrels on state/county land. I can’t find that info anywhere. Can you mention where that info is? Thanks.
The bear regs changed in Minnesota last year, barrels are now allowed on public lands with special stipulations.
Good video taught me some new things
It really is one of those things, I have waited on big bears I felt I had good odds of taking, and ultimately missed out. And I have also gone into seasons saying the first legal bear goes. Weather thats due to time restrictions, or the availability of decent bait, or maybe even i lower my standards in season just to get on to deer hunting. But I have really learned a lot from both ways. While I wont lie there is nothing as exciting as a nice sized bear. And I'm to a point t now where I want the biggest bear in my area. I really did cut my teeth and do a lot of learning on taking the one of the first few bears id see in a season. I just found your videos. When bellydragger walked in for you man I got pumped! Sorry it went the way in did. Still that far into the season id probably take no issue with the bear you got!
Thanks for your videos I would have to consider you and them a lot of the reason I got my first black bear last year and it was with my bow
THat made my day!
Thanks for taking us along on your Minnesota pre-season baiting and hunt! I always love your videos! Do you plan to hunt Michigan in the future?
Yes I am accumulating points in Michigan.
Great video Bernie! It was a tough fall season in Wisconsin and the UP as well, awful weather and crazy abundant natural foods.
Great Video
Same struggle up here in northern Ontario. One of the toughest seasons I have experienced
Always enjoy your bear hunting videos, bait is so important. Hope to find some better sources in the future. Unfortunately I suffered a serious medical problem leaving my stand on the second day, took me out. But I'm hopeful my kids will get a tag in the coming years. Keep up the good work.
Bernie do you know anything about the province of Nova Scotia for bears or should I save my money and go west
They have a lot of bears and some good outfitters. The bears are all black, no color phase and they are not known for big bears, but there is some good bear hunting opportunity there. They have a fall hunt only so if you want to hunt the spring you will need to choose a different province.
Thanks Bernie yep I know there smaller and only fall season it’s a little cheaper that’s why considering it but I really wanna go to Manitoba would wait and save the extra cash or save some money and go up there
@@bucktalk69 I personally love hunting Manitoba and Saskatchewan, but you are right, it's a lot more money, both travel and cost of outfitters. It's your money; up to you.
