    I do so admire the way that Australian Homes so often have a laundry room. Something that is sadly lacking in all but the biggest & best planned houses in the U.K. Thankyou for sharing. I think this would have been a good place to live. Loved the floors & the veranda.

    • @jamied1579
      @jamied1579 4 роки тому +3

      We all take laundry rooms for granted in Australia - it is very rare to find even old houses without a dedicated laundry. We're at the opposite end of the scale where we find the lack of a laundry in British homes to be quite weird - and it seems even weirder to us to have a washing machine in the kitchen. But of course old British homes were never designed for laundry rooms, there's nowhere to put one, so the kitchen is the logical place.
      I was even told once that a british family moved here and they couldn't get used to the laundry so they turned it into something else and put the washer in the kitchen lol. I can't tell you how true that is but I love these little cultural differences. Makes life interesting ;)

    I passed these about three years ago or there abouts. Only had time to investigate one before they put up demolition fences. Great video. I noticed there all gone now. Unfortunately this road is like Greenhill Road in the seventies. Losing all its street appeal and giving way to development. Unfortunately those researching their family history will not find their relatives homes. Remember folks take lots of photo's, and don't forget to keep copies on a USB or external hard drive in case you lose them. Great work mate I wish I could have explored these with you.

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  5 років тому +1

      Awesome Michael which one did you investigate? :-) I live up just passed these Michael and gradually noticed them becoming overgrown and when the big fence went up I went in for a look and filmed them as you see. You so right about Anzac Hwy losing its street appeal, it would be amazing to see Greenhill road before all those business fronts and units went up. Luckily Google street view is also kind of keeping track of what is being replaced. There will be many more maybe we can investigate! :-)

    These houses are on Anzac Highway aren't they. I pass them on the way to and from work. Couldn't believe they would demolish such nice properties and wondered what they looked like inside.

    Creepy when you called out, reminding me of my exploration of the SAMCOR building @ Pooraka. Some parts had no natual light & my bike was outside, ready to go.
    In the late 1970s the villa on the Florence St corner of 52 Sydenham Rd Norwood was open & deralict. It was restored a few years later, but the 4 single front empty row houses, south, were demolished. The streets were not quite so pretty back then.

      Hi Jo, thanks for your support, glad you are enjoying. :-) Yes this is a tudor style and it was built in 1935 Jo. :-) This whole block has now been completely demolished as new development is putting up a huge complex of town houses. Hi, from Alabama, USA. If I"d been in it, I would have looked for a way into the attic and checked for hidden closets, like down that hall from the first closet, just before where the ceiling was hanging.

      99.99% of houses in Australia wouldn't have an attic,or a basement. All you would find in an Australian roof space would be insulation,rat and/or possum droppings and dust.

This house in particular is one of the lesser picked apart ones but has a lot of graffiti now. I will upload some recent footage of this block soon. I grew up in a house very similar to this in another suburb in Adelaide (St Peters) back in the early 60's to mid 70's, my mum sold it for $75,000 in 1976 (i think) , it was back on the market early 2018 and sold for over $1million. Solidly built with high ceilings, also with the toilet out the back. This house is in pretty good nick. But i guess location is the key here.

    Interesting "chalet" appearing structure. If by chance it is a frame building it would not be all that difficult
    to move (if one had a lot nearby). The termites have been dining sans a matrie-d but that can be a typical
    condition for the area. One would have to sacrifice the exterior porches, add-ons etc but the move would
    be possible. Just a silly thought based on 75 years of some time not so great ideas. Do enjoy the day, J.R.

      Urbex Indigo That floor looks a bit dodgy though. Do you get termites in that area?
      Can only hope that someone will build something with some style there instead of the usual bland, boring, boxes, we seem to get dished out as standard these days. The columns and different shapes gave it a bit of style & individuality and somehow made it look friendly. Looks better than a plain flat front with square windows.

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  6 років тому

      Yep the character of all the building styles of decades gone by are declining so I think some of the Urbex videos from all around the world will actually be used as archived history at some point because it is documentation of history. Thats what I tell myself anyway hahaha. :-)

    My question is what caused the structural damage? It is truly sad that those beautiful floors and the beautiful fireplaces have to be demolished. Earthquake, soil condition, drainage issues???

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  6 років тому +1

      Adelaide, South Australia is renown to have moving soil which leads to a lot of homes having foundation problems. Particulary the older homes before building standards were altered to address the soil problem :-)

    • @jacquelineraines2074
      @jacquelineraines2074 6 років тому

      @@urbexindigo5164 When I lived in Denver Colorado, we had soil called Bentonite that would swell up destroying foundations, cracking roads and driveways. It took an engineering feat to prevent it from happening. We always had a soil report before we bought a home, otherwise we could find "Longs Peak" in our basement.

      @urbexindigo5164  6 років тому +1

      Hey Rin Tin Tin yeah I forgot to mention I saw a man hole leading up through the ceiling after the video had stopped. In Australia we are not known for attics having a lot of stuff inside them, the roof spaces are more just for insulation and just enough room for someone to crawl around and do repairs. This one looked higher like American or European ones though. Australia virtually had no two story homes built in the early times because of how hot our summers get, When cooling systems came in then they two story homes became more common. :-)

    An interesting style'd house.... Pseduo-Tudor with columns- very big, oversized columns elegant yet quite weird..... definitely not 'me'....lol
    .
    I liked the two different fireplace- the entry room looked to be coal, while the second room was wood. Even tho someone stack'd some wood in that first fireplace, its easy to see it was never designed to burn it.
    That was a classy ceiling medallion, recessed for a hanging light fixture-- what hung there originally must have been a centre piece of the room... and I liked the apparent bedroom with its own fireplace- must have been a cozy retreat on a cold winter night.
    That was quite a modern looking oven in the kitchen- but what caught my eye was that unusual drop-in gas burner stove assembly... I have never seen anything like it in North America or the UK.. looks likes something you could use to make your own cooking range.... a neat idea.
    Its too bad there was no apparent access up into the the ceiling-- there looked to be quite a large area up there in the rafters--- an attic perhaps- and forgotten goodies ? Its hard to imagine there isn't someway up there...:)
    I was about to say that this house was in remarkably good condition- until that floor board gave way...... Termites !..... maybe the house is riddled with them, and that's why its comdemn'd ??....
    Thank you for the Post..... :)

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  6 років тому +2

      I should have looked a bit harder for a way up to an attic area, it does seem high enough to be one. This one seemed to be in the best condition out the block. The back yard and door area with the toilet not in the house reminded me of the back of a restaurant or pub.beer garden. Thanks for watching ana ixtar :-)

    • @anaixtar6793
      @anaixtar6793 6 років тому +3

      That back yard WC was very common in old English country homes- or was when they first started having toilets plumb'd. No one wanted them inside their houses-they were considered just as bad as an outhouse- and some of the early venting schemes made them about as smelly....:)
      I have seen what looks like little sheds hung off the back of multi-storied row houses townes.... putting the toilet- for that was the only thing in them- no sinks to wash your hands !--- about as far away from the rest of the house yet still be enclose.
      This house dated well after that fad- yet a bit of tradition must have held on.
      I lived in one such manor house, with the loo next to the coal room, ground floor--which was down a long unheated hallway, past a pantry, off the kitchen... ...a long trek to "go".... :)
