This is why some musicians debate back and forth about the ability that “anyone can be taught how to sing.” I as a musician, who happens to play multiple instruments and can actually sing (above 4 octaves in my case), am on the side of not everyone has the vocals to “sing” well. Part of the ability to actually sing naturally well comes from genetics. I have some family members who damaged their vocals from being alcoholics & chain smoking and they still can sing WAY better than the family members I have who aren’t on drugs & still can’t carry a tune to save their lives! Now, I take good care of my voice by not drinking/ not smoking and the contrast of good health also makes a huge difference on athletics/ vocational health too! The problem with this performance really lies with whoever the hell was stupid enough to book her to sing to begin with! What were they even thinking? The Anthem is a difficult song to sing to begin with and if you are incapable of singing above even two octaves, let alone do not have the melisma capacity to deliver, you shouldn’t even attempt, especially on a professional level. This is why typically vocalists are booked to sing, not “entertainers.” And yes, even great singers and decent singers can butcher a song by over singing, case in point the performance from Fergie.

Alcohol is horrible. I haven’t had a drink in 51 years. I learned very quickly at age 15 that there was nothing good about drinking. I spent a lot of hours over the past two years helping a 50 year old friend abandon his 23-year addiction to alcohol. He’s stayed sober, but it damaged his brain and his liver and contributed to other health problems. He likely won’t live another five years.

I've heard rehab called many things. "Super fun" is not a description I've heard before. She is setting herself up for failure if that is her attitude. If she was entering rehab because she recognises that she has a problem and needs help, that would've been good. Great, even. But her treating going to rehab like a get-together with friends or a vacation speaks to her level of maturity. Or immaturity, as the case may be. Which also makes it look as if she only seems to feel the need to enter rehab because 1): she made a public spectacle of herself and needs to go in the hope that 2): she could get out of the public eye for a while so that 3): hopefully the public's attention is not on her for too long and that the public's collective brain moves on to something else soon. I don't think out of sight, out of mind will truly apply here. Something, someday, will trigger the memory and it'll all be recalled. Besides, once it's on social media, it's out there. The bell cannot be unrung. Hopefully once she is there she will take rehab, and her life, much more seriously and learn that she is worth so much more than her past mistakes. That she can pick herself up and dust herself down. She is going to need loads of support and she will need to be strong. She will have to learn to face herself, her fears, her doubts, look past her insecurities, and fimd the strength from deep within to change the path from where she was, to a place where she can look at herself and be proud of how far she has come.
