      MWC also signed a deal for last year for Tru TV the sister station to TNT as well. It moved from streaming to tv a well. CBS and Fox Sports are more in favor of the Big 10 a well. Fox Sports are doing the same thing to the Big 12 as well.

    I care less about the network than I care about the announcers. It gets old to listen to arrogant ESPN/ABC announcers that mangle basic facts about Iowa State. Low-rent FS1 and ESPN2 announcers with gravelly annoying voices. If a network can have announcers that actually know the teams they are announcing, I'll be happy.

      One causes the other.
      ESPN was comfortable disrespecting their business partner, they were willing to openly disrespect their partner on broadcasts.
      It happens because it was encouraged.

    TNT needs to make sure not to bring in any clown crew announcers from ESPN. Very tired of their personal bias creeping into calling the game. Just call the game unbiased. The teams, players, and fans deserve the respect. Sadly they will have to in order to cover all the games.

    No sir, TNT is not stealing them. This was part of the settlement in the WB lawsuit against the NBA. The Big 12 Football and basket ball games that are part of the deal were scheduled to be streaming only on ESPN+. so ESPN is not losing much inventory. Great news! I am still boycottimg ESPN+, so now I can watch more.
    But what we really need is for the Big 12 to have their own streaming platform on which all games of all sports all year long will play, along with replays, sports shows and anything else schools want to broadcast. Doesn't mean the TV channels cannot also broadcast games, but the increase in exposure for all teams and all sports will create more fans willing to spend more money, a much more sustainable business model than restricting which games can be watched hoping excluisivity and scarcity will make people pay more. I think most of us would pay $250/year for a service that covers it all. And knowing that that money is going directly to support my conference and my team, and not Disney or anyone else, that's a no brainer for me.

    • @ryanaegis3544
      @ryanaegis3544 День тому

      $250/year, or $35/month. Keep in mind there are no sports for two to three months in the summer, so your yearly rate is really only covering 9-10 months, at most, of live matches.

  • @Adorkableguy
    @Adorkableguy 16 годин тому

    What they need more is their own network or a partnership with a streaming service.
    Turner channels can only broadcast so many games.
    I've said this now for a while that within 5 years, Turner channels will broadcast Big 12 games and the Big 12 basketball tourney.
    But none of this will matter if they don't win on the field. Plain and simple. They have to take what they feel should is theirs. Respect.

  • @GeraldMothershed
    @GeraldMothershed День тому +5

    Drake, I know you're young, but is it a good idea to report on things like this from a very unrealistic view point? Any reasonable person would conclude that ESPN shifted Texas and OU to the SEC so they can consolidate the programs of greatest value into a single conference? They very likely made a media rights offer that is in-line with the value they feel the Big 12 holds and Yormark recognized that accepting it would humiliate the conference. The smart move would be to accept a deal with TNT then pretend that you did so based on principle.
    Now here you are, a young man who is either working very hard to spin this narrative to make the Big 12 look better OR you actually believe the BS you just said, which would not make you look very good. Just be brave and talk about what is really going on. You can always transition to another sports media role, but not if you've made yourself look foolish.

      As I bloviate? 😆
      Look, no offense but the deteriorating nature of ESPN's interest in the Big 12 has been written about for years now.
      Do you think Yormark would turn down a more lucrative deal from ESPN in favor of a TNT deal because he feels that ESPN holds an SEC bias? Better yet, he really works for the member schools, would they be ok with partnering with TNT over ESPN? These media groups aren't in the same universe, TNT can never provide the money or television structure of an ESPN. Drake is telling you that these member schools are onboard with a lesser partner with less resources because they are tired of SEC bias... The proof of bias Drake's provided is the non-called targeting against Texas. A non-call that came from a Big 10 officiating crew. The Big 10 aren't partners with ESPN.
      You are welcome to stand next to Drake and plant your flag in this seriously flawed theory, you can sound ridiculous together.

      Strangely, you can easily find dozens and dozens of videos that discuss ESPN's desire to distance themselves from the Big 12, some dating back a couple years. We know that Yormark and the member schools are concerned about their media rights deal, these are well understood facts.
      Now, suddenly, everyone is good with going to TNT? And why? Because they are tired of SEC bias!
      I think it's great that you believe that these schools all agreed to enter a less prestigious partnership with a network that has far less resources than ESPN.... And they choose this because of bias? Going to TNT doesn't solve the bias issue, you understand that right?
      Anyway, let's agree to disagree, fair enough?

      ESPN has clearly orchestrated a series of moves, beginning with the Texas / OU realignment, that strips the Big 12 of their nationally relevant programs. It seems clear to me that the money is concentrated in the SEC, for ESPN anyway, and they are not very interested in messing with these "lower" conferences.
      Once the ACC media rights fiasco is resolved, then we will see the handful of desired programs split between FOX and ESPN. Everyone else will likely need to adjust, maybe join together and form a new league using the Big 12 and ACC orphans.
      As for boycotting ESPN, don't bother, they appear to be seeing themselves out. I am a Texas fan, however I still have mad love for the Big 12 . I'm not happy that they are moving you guys to TNT, that isn't something that should be celebrated. I'm not sure what dollar figure a declining TNT can afford to pay for the Big 12 Media Rights, but it isn't likely to be competitive with the SEC or Big 10.
