Fun video Andy - it’s great to hear what folks have done to their cars. I have a ‘90 Forrest Green C2. We’ve also shortened the gear ratios (5th is no longer an overdrive), B&B cat bypass headers, GT3 muffler, single mass flywheel, Steve Wong custom chip, hotter cams, RS manual steering rack, RS short throw shifter, Recaro seats, light weight carpeting, an OMP light weight suede steering wheel and LED headlights. My #1 would be the KW variant 3s - the cornering stability / grip is fantastic. My #2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 would the gear ratios, headers, cam, chip and flywheel - the car is so much perkier and responsive than stock (it dynos 262 at the wheels). My #7 would be the steering rack - the feel and feedback are phenomenal. My #8 would be the muffler - guttural or raucous on demand. My #9 would be the whale tail - it’s iconic 911 from the time I was a kid. My #10 would be LED headlights - it’s great to be able to see far ahead at night.
Oh wow, just when I think I've gone right down the rabbit hole, along comes you with what sounds like an unbelievable build! David thanks so much for sharing every change you've made. This is the best thing for me in starting this channel is hearing from people all over the world. I'm going to have to step up my modification game!
@@lastrasp yes, rabbit hole is an appropriate term. I’ve had my 964 for 10 years and done modifications over the last 3. My mechanics and I targeted the mods we did to give the most bang for the buck. It’s still a heavy lift. Beyond what I’ve done, getting into serious engine mods, the rabbit hole gets significantly deeper, and fast. We looked at doing individual throttle bodies with stand-alone engine management - $20K (US) - time to say it’s done and stop.
Hi, Andy. I am new to your channel and just wanted to say hi. You and I have a very similar philosophy about our Porsches I think. I have a 997 C4 and have made many of the mods you have at least in spirit if not exactly the same (I have E88s!). I track and daily drive my car. It is more and more of a track ready car, but all the changes make it more fun on the street as well. I am having too much fun with it to be worried about resale. Anyway, I have enjoyed this video and found you from your zoom with Auto Amateur. I look forward to viewing more of your content. Thanks for your efforts. I know it probably isn't a big money maker for you though I wish you well and hope it is some day. - Shawn
Shawn, thanks so much for checking out the channel, post seeing the panel discussion and then a big thanks for reaching out. Spot on, about having fun and not worrying about resale. I also believe that if the mods you make are tasteful and well thought out, the'll have a less detrimental effect on the value and - in some cases - can actually increase it. Didn't start the channel to make money (given what I've spent upgrading gear lately, it's safe to say I'm well behind ). It's a passion project. Nice to create content about my favourite brand and push myself to learn to shoot, edit, write and present better each time. Thanks again for the comment!
@@lastrasp I had a 944 S2 several years ago but 964s here in the UK are fetching big money so I had to wait a good while until getting the funds together . keep up the great work with the channel

Hey Andy. Just found your channel and have subscribed!. Love the content, your enthusiastic delivery and the fact that you are also from Melbourne which means we will likely meet as I am on the lookout for my first aircooled Porsche.
Hey thanks so much for subscribing and commenting. The hunt for that first air cooled car is an exciting one for sure. There are a few good cars on the market right now. I quite like the blue SC on Collecting Cars 👌🏼
Nice looking 964! 18" wheels are the perfect sz...i think! I have a 09 BMW 135i M Sport. 18" wheels look perfect not to big not to small. My factory wheels are 18" i run Michelin pilot super sports as well. I run 255/35's out back...i never can remember what my fronts are but they're skinnier. My rear rims are 9.5 inches wide & my fronts are 8.5 from factory. Those BBS's look incredible. I like the fan plates you can run on them for brake cooling too....👍🏁
@@lastrasp Yeah i didn't want to put all my modifications in & seem like i was bragging but i love cars & talking cars! I'm 45 & I've been into this stuff my whole life. From mini bikes & go karts to dirt bikes four wheelers & 3 wheelers. But i love the car! I got so lucky because it's exactly how i would of ordered it. It's black with the black trim all around the windows from factory & a black gut! The interior trim is the dark ash wood trim. Which is only a small piece on the dash on the door handles to shut the door & around the shifter. I have an AFE intake with 3" VRSF catless down pipes. I run a billet VRSF charge. pipe with twin Turbosmart billet blow off valves with 60mm trumpets! I run a beautiful billet Agency aluminum intercooler. For my oil system which i have in boxes on my floor(waiting for the warm weather) i have a billet vargas crank case breather. It has a stainless hose clamp to hold the filter on. I bought a billet blue P2 hose clamp for that..it looks sharp! I bought a billet Radium oil catch can & bought some nice polished billet then blue anodized hose separators for the oil lines. I bought a billet PCV valve & the plastic cover that holds that in from the factory can fall. So i bought the cnc billet cover for it from R& B Turbo. I also run a big fuel pump with you guessed it a billet bracket lol. Car makes 550+H.P. with 20psi of boost all day in cool weather. Im gonna run water meth injection kit & crank the boost up to 22-24psi. I should be scraping or just past 600H.P. But that'll be for emergencies...lol. Car rips, i jumped on it in 3rd gear 3 wks ago & at 5 grand i was at 110mph. I can't imagine bringing it to redline 7k & then ringing it out in 4th...😛 I just ordered 90mm titanium studs & titek billet short lug nuts. If you're interested in checking it out? @@lastrasp I got that chip a few years back. It made a difference to the stock engine. That MAF upgrade looks good thought, I got the FVD sports Cat and it's decent.
Great video Andy I'm eyeballing a 1989 Porsche Carrera 4 sunroof coupe! It's black with tan interior. I think some of you upgrades would be really cool on this car. What do you think of that year make and model?
Fantastic mate. Make sure you have a PPI done and just note that those 89 cars (and early 90 cars) do have some differences with cars from late 1990. Rear suspension mount bolt pattern is an example. But if the car checks out in a PPI and you’re confident, then it sounds great. Excellent colour combo.
Another great video, two things normally I'm not a fan of, gold wheels and whale tale, yet here we are drooling over your 964 which looked stunning with both! 🤣😀
Good question! We re-routed the ignition leads from the top of the fan shroud which meant we could remove the old plastic moulding from across the top of the shroud which we then painted black. We painted the fan gold to match the wheels. The carbon fibre intake is available from Design911 as is the carbon heater blower delete pipe (there are a few different versions of that pipe available). If you're going to delete the heater blower motor there is a bridge relay required to ensure that the dash fan still works (available at Pelican Parts). We re-plated all the zinc fixings and then installed the Sleepers block off delete backing plate (from Sleepers Speed shop).
@@lastrasp best part of PCCM is CarPlay so the missing sat nav is less of an issue, if not a completely non issue IMHO. On a side note really love those BBS!
Hey Andy: Great videos and perfect 964 topics! I just subscribed. Great news to hear about a short shifter for 964 C4s that doesn't require denting the undersurface of the car. However, Sleepers site doesn't list them for sale? Maybe a stock issue? I'll contact them. You might (or probably already have) considered switching to single mass flywheel. Dramatic difference in acceleration! In my limited experience, a 14lb SMFW doesn't cause stalling issue, whereas the lighter ones do (again, in my limited experience). And, good news about the FVD MAF. That's on my list too. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the comment! Yeah contact Sleepers directly. They tend to do small production runs of their products so you may need to secure one that way. I'd suggest calling them as they can be a little slow responding to emails (in my experience at least). I've got the LWF which did cause stalling issues for me but the SW chip did a good job of sorting that. And then it was fine with the MAF chip too. Thanks again for the comment and for subscribing!
@@lastrasp Maybe an upcoming video discussing your cool wheels and tires? Size, width, offset (wheels and tires) as well has spacers (?), ride height (how you measured, if you did), stance and how adjustments affected the ride?
@@mickm6350 Yep absolutely, that's on the agenda. Next up is likely a more in depth look at the KW V3's including a comparison with the Bilstein PSS10's
@@lastrasp Great! I've had both KW V3s and Bilstein PSS10s. Somehow, I couldn't set up the KWs to feel right. So, went with the PSS10s. But, please share how you setup the KWs. Thanks
Sure is! Check out my video where I take it off. It’s not a quick five minute job. It easy enough to do in an hour or two. Currently running sans whale tail. I like both options but will always just slightly prefer no whale tail.
Love the video! Very informative… question: mine has standard steering wheel with airbags. Does changing it to the Momo throw on a dash light or screw anything up? Thanks
Thanks very much for the feedback. That's a really interesting question actually. My car is an early 1990, pre-airbag car so I didn't come up against that. I imagine it probably would throw a dash light but I'm sure that could easily be remedied by a smart auto electrician.
Hey Andy! Cool vid. Would love the MAF and the SSK, can't do the MAF over here and don't have the money for the SSK for now as I just bought PSS10s. Would love to know more in detail why PSS10s never fit you. RS looks is everything.
I've had a few people ask me about my coilover setup so that's on the list of upcoming vids and I'll definitely pick apart the differences I found in the PSS10's vs V3's (it's not night and day - i do believe they're comparable setups). I did just find the PSS10's a bit harsh. Is your car a C4 or C2?
Hi Andy. Looking at getting this for my 1990 C2. Out of interest, did you opt for the primary muffler bypass too, or just the secondary muffler? Thanks
it's available directly from Sleepers Speed shop. I chose theirs as there is no modification required to the under tray of the car (which is needed with some C4 short shift kits). Definitely creates a notchy, mechanical feel to the shift.
It'd be worth emailing them to find out. The other option would be to go with the Fister Motorsports SSK. Darin's products are top notch as is his service / responsiveness.

@@davidsherley2652 sounds like a sound strategy!
That car is absolutely spot on.👊🏼
I reckon I’m gonna be up late finding a few mods for my 996 now!
Finding / planning mods is the best part! I keep leaving full carts on Design911, Rennline, Elephant Racing, Pelican..... 😂
Beautiful car
Thanks so much Aggie!
Great video Andy!! I love that steering wheel. That might be my number 1, but DAMN!! Those rims though. 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much James! Yep, I absolutely love the wheel. Perfect dish, understated styling and lovely leather.
so glad to have come across your great channel, must be fate as I'm just about to buy my first 964 in the next month :-)
Such great news! Have you owned other Porsches or will this be your first?
@@lastrasp I had a 944 S2 several years ago but 964s here in the UK are fetching big money so I had to wait a good while until getting the funds together . keep up the great work with the channel

Great video! I didn’t know you could custom design a momo, dang what am I supposed to do with my new protipo sitting in the box waiting for my restoration to be complete?
There's always someone keen to buy a 'new in box' Prototipo!
Excellent as ever!
Thanks so much Jay. appreciate you checking it out!
I like the fan plates you can run on them for brake cooling too....👍🏁
Those BMW’s are great. Been on a few drives with a guy who has one and seen him leaving some pretty high powered Porsches for dead!
I have a small pg on instagram (jordanberry20) its not much but when the cars all finished im doing a nice video for UA-cam & pictures on instagram. My sons into photography.Have a happy New Year & sorry for the book & life story...😂🤣 Love talking cars though...👍🏁
Did you have to put spacers on for your 18 inch BBSs
Hey Stephen. No spacers needed on mine.
Great video! The cool thing about this review is that those same modification recommendations can be applied to us 993 owners as well. Majority of your mod list I’ve done or will be doing to my 993. Good stuff!!
That’s a really good point! You’re going all in on your 993 mate!
The 964 is my favorite Porsche, and close to my favorite car in all. Looking at those roads you're driving on, looks like nsw far coast.
I've never driven the NSW coast but I've heard there are some great roads up that way.
@@lastrasp i watched a few more of your videos and saw you're in Melbourne, and there are some great roads down that way.
There are some great roads up here for sure. Ive got an older golf gti and is a blast to throw around.
Keep up the great content. Im really enjoying it.
@@joelg4849 I've never driven a Golf GTI. hopefully one day! Thanks for the comments and for checking out the channel. New vid dropping this week!
Good video mate. I'm a fellow 964 owner too. Guards red C4. 👍🏼
Nice! How long have you had the C4? Love guards red.
@@lastrasp since 2014. I love it. 2021 will see some updates I think. A lightweight clutch and fly wheel is next.
Nice one. May require a chip to stop issues at idle. The Steve Wong chip is a good option for this.
I totally get that. I was always the same. What I love about the 964 is how well it takes visual changes.
Love it.
Any chance you could tell us exactly what you did do the engine bay (and where to buy the parts/what parts to buy)?
Good question! We re-routed the ignition leads from the top of the fan shroud which meant we could remove the old plastic moulding from across the top of the shroud which we then painted black. We painted the fan gold to match the wheels. The carbon fibre intake is available from Design911 as is the carbon heater blower delete pipe (there are a few different versions of that pipe available). If you're going to delete the heater blower motor there is a bridge relay required to ensure that the dash fan still works (available at Pelican Parts). We re-plated all the zinc fixings and then installed the Sleepers block off delete backing plate (from Sleepers Speed shop).
love the vid
Hey thanks so much!
Nice list. E88's would be on my number one to and would look great on my oakgreen C2 as well :-)
Thanks for checking it out! Yep E88’s on a green C2 are 🔥
Very nice. I would consider adding the Porsche Classic Communication Management.
I did actually. So cool. But the sat nav function doesn’t work here in Australia. Bummer.
@@lastrasp best part of PCCM is CarPlay so the missing sat nav is less of an issue, if not a completely non issue IMHO. On a side note really love those BBS!
@@cwmac yeah that’s actually very appealing!
Nice rims
Thanks Sean. From the moment I saw a 964 with E88's I knew i had to have them!
What size tires do you have on your car? Fronts and rears?
Hey Gabe. 265/35/18 on the rear and 225/40/18 on the front 👌🏼
Thanks
@@mickm6350 interesting as I’ve had both too but felt the opposite!
Have you thought about doing a POV drive?
Hey Sidd. I hadn’t actually. Not a bad idea though!
Is the whale tail removable? I feel like it would be awesome for drives to Healesville but having it off for beach road cruising would be good too
Great video and solid editing. I like the energy. Subbed. 👍🏼
Thanks for the feedback and the subscription! Loving your channel too.

Yeah that’d be an interesting exercise. Although I must confess I try not to look at what I’ve spent. It makes for reasonably sobering reading! 😂
Hi Andy. Looking at getting this for my 1990 C2. Out of interest, did you opt for the primary muffler bypass too, or just the secondary muffler? Thanks
Hey Andrew. Yep, I've got the primary bypass (Cup pipe) and then the Fister secondary.
Can you say bit more about C4 short shift.
it's available directly from Sleepers Speed shop. I chose theirs as there is no modification required to the under tray of the car (which is needed with some C4 short shift kits). Definitely creates a notchy, mechanical feel to the shift.

Hi there , nice car and video . "The German engineers of Porsche forgot a iPhone holder " As far as I know the 964 was built from 1989 till 1994. Can you send me a picture of an iPhone from these days please !
Thanks very much for the comment Matthias. Mentioning the Porsche designers weren’t thinking about the iPhone when they designed the 964 was kind of a joke and - to be fair - I didn’t say they forgot about it. I said they weren’t thinking about it. Which is actually true. Thanks again for watching ✌🏼
