    Took me more like 8 hours, I got extremely lost. The fact that it took me almost exactly as long as a good nights sleep felt very fitting to me. I adore this game so much, and getting lost was so pleasurable in this game. I went to the Listless Library first, but couldnt figure out how to get past the first room, so I went and got the dash in the outdoor courtyard first instead. I never used a guide, and while I think guides are totally valid this is one game I think is better without.

      Ugh. 16 for me because I was a stubborn ass and kept trying to do areas where you’re supposed to use the cling gem … without having it lol. Probably spent 2 trying to reach the top of the tower through a really tough jump instead of the pole hall like you’re supposed to and another four dying in the wall cling gauntlet with the poison floor in the keep

    As someone whose formative gaming experiences were the likes of Metroid Prime, The Elder Scrolls, and Mario 64, I was already pre-installed with the mental firmware to enjoy this sort of game and I think you hit the nail on the head in describing it. "I wonder what's up o that ledge? Can I use what I have to get there?" That's the sort of thing I live for.
    Also: while a different order, my playthrough was remarkably similar to yours. I did find the wall kick first, but I somehow missed the ground pound the entire game and only found the wall run towards the very end. I got almost all the keys and abilities using just the slide jump, wall kick, and enemy pogo. And the kicker is that I had no idea I was sequence breaking! The movement is so flexible that it just seemed natural, if slightly technical, that I could get to wherever I wanted to go. My internet was out for my whole playthrough, and only after it came back and I got to see other people play did I realize that I might have been doing something an unconventional way.

    • @MooreOverVO
      @MooreOverVO  11 місяців тому +9

      I didn't mention it but I actually completely missed the wallrun for my entire run. It was the last ability I acquired and it was after I had already gotten the 4 other keys. I had used all of the other abilities in my kit to find a way to get the other 4, and by the time I had the wallrun I already was ready to finish the game.
      It's crazy how open it is to play, and I hope to play more games like it now

    12:40 this is a very important life lesson on it's own too. The moment you realize you can decide for yourself and set your own path. A very trivial example, and a big mistake in the american schooling system is teaching kids PEMDAS, a fixed, safe ordering of operations, instead of letting them decide what to do, based on what they can do (I can't add 2 and 4x5 together, I have to do the multiplication first! You deduce it, instead of blindly following rules)

  • @SuperMalachiDude

    The slide jump was the last ability that I obtained lol. I literally got through almost the entire game without it. I think I only needed it for the key in the underbelly.

    I've never felt so lost in a game, but it was always somewhat pleasant, knowing my abilities will be better and same as you i got wall jump later it taught me that these abilities combo so well that you don't need all of them, trying to do things with a limited skillset improved me very fast.

      @@loafofbread9400 In a lot of cases, a content creator will focus on a specific genre, some content creators will even focus on sub-categories in that genre. like this guy’s videos are about video games, a majority of those are about FPS games, a specific FPS game called “Apex Legends”. so to me, Mooreover making narrative driven video about an indie third person platformer curing his fear of non linear single player games is a little surprising. Something that would be more expected would be a discussion of Apex patch notes and how they may affect the meta, you feel what I mean? i personally think he has established a patten, and broken it, which is cool because this was a good video, and has some relevance to how I play open world/non linear games.

    I've always loved metroidvanias and I grew up on rayman on the PS2 so this game felt like home, I feel that way with all games with low poly styles but the fact that pseudoregalia is a 3d platformer with the same progression just felt amazing.

    I really can't stop appreciating Pseudoregalia, and I appreciate you putting into words one of the a aspects I really enjoy about this game I quite couldn't put my finger into.
    Fun fact, my first playthrough was 12 hours long because the only major ability I had for most of it was the slide, I just really liked using the skid jump and didn't really find the major abilities until like the 10th hour hahahah, I had a blast anyways!
    The new update nerfs the skid jump by a bit, but I think it's reasonable now, I don't feel someone new will go too out of their way with the nerfed one, plus a map really helps

    • @FirstLast-mn4re
      @FirstLast-mn4re Місяць тому +1

      You are wrong, because I played this game for the first time a few weeks ago and discovered the slide hop by accident in the Dilapidated Dungeon and it defined my entire playthrough to the point where I straight up reloaded my save after getting Solar Wind and didn't pick it up till I was ready to fight the final boss because I realized I couldn't do the slide hop anymore (at least not without having a lot more space). But basically I spent the majority of my time sequence breaking with slide hopping and wall jumps and I had an absolute blast doing that. And that was with the nerfed blue slide hops.

    You hit on my favorite thing about pseudoregalia and games like Super Metroid which were designed with sequence breaking in mind. I love being able to see the "intended solution" but then finding my own way anyway even if I don't have the "intended" upgrade. It feels so good to feel like I "outsmarted" the game by finding my own way with my current toolset.
    *tangent about my own experience feel free to skip*
    In my playthrough I accidentally discovered slide ultra-hopping (with the base slide) while still in the Dilapidated Dungeon. and this technique (which the game never requires or tells you about) allows to you sequence break a ton of things and get the progression items in pretty much any order save for maybe the cling gem. With this I went to the Twilight Theater really early with just slide and wall kick and had a lot of fun making my way through the really challenging platforming in that area. And the best part is I never got soft locked at any point it was well designed enough to where you could naviagte through very large portions of it without ever getting the cling gem and I just find that so cool. (You do need the cling gem for the big key though)
    All in all I love how open ended and how open the design is to sequence breaking and finding your own path through. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing a really large gap or a really high up platform and wondering "can I make that with my current moveset" and then realizing you absolutely can. I really wish this dev would consider making a sequel or another game with a similar kind of moveset and design philosophy because I had so much fun with this game.

    each first playthrough of pseudoregalia is unique
    i only got the slide jump AFTER the cling gem, i had discovered for myself how to get long distance jumping from a niche use of the backflip mechanic that became infinitely hard to use, the slide jump actually felt like a downgrade because i couldnt get the height i used to in the small space i had, which made me sad, i had to get the ground pound ability to open up the places i could get to before picking up the slide jump.
    i also did the underbelly completely backwards, fun times, i genuinly wish i could forget the game just to play it again for the first time.
    when i play games i like looking for "sequence" breaks, so on my first playthrough i was TRYING all the things to avoid using or getting a power, there were only a few areas which required speedrunner skills or an ability i hadnt discovered yet, the rest i smacked my head against until i came up with a solution, best 13 hours of gaming ive had in 2 decades.

    For me my kryptonite is that I need to do everything in a game, I 'need' to 100% it.
    I don't always manage to do this but my mental push towards this has made me purposefully ignore certain types of games and also ruin others.
    Great video, I really enjoyed this game lol, but then again it was up my alley anyway, also talking about finding ways to get past areas the unintended way when playing I'd tried getting everything without using the wallrun ability. It's possible (haven't gone back to check the new challenges) but f* me there were some difficult parts.

    That said, your way of speaking and setting up a premise really fits this type of video. It's also why your in depth competitive Apex videos are great. Not sure how you'd organize it, but more videos of this nature would be great. More competitive Apex videos would also be great. Videos Bridging the Gap between high-level play / ranked and competitive Apex would be super great. I think you're good at what you've been doing! Honestly, I see a lot of people with your old mentality, but directed at specific game franchises (Zelda being the most obvious one). I myself always felt that the best game is one that can do multiple things and not do them poorly. Being both open and linear especially is something a lot of developers struggle with and this is a thing that, while only partially beneficial for Metroidvanias such as Pseudoregalia, especially is underutilized in Action-Adventure games and RPGS despite it basically being the potential savior of the Genre for a lot of franchises (once again look at Zelda). Having open worlds with linear storylines (Think Elder Scrolls) is something I wish more games did, and the whole Linear vs Open mentality discussion kind of reminded me of that.
