@Jim Spencer I've been thinking that exact thing! except that lots of people especially kids don't watch TV networks anymore so what if we started something online? like a website or streaming service that exists to provide kids, adults and everything in between with quality family friendly television? a service you can trust. just let your kids go over to the PC and watch both new and old quality shows on "ffss.com?" (family friendly streaming service.com)

Best family tv show ever. American family values and story lines that touch are hearts. The musical theams throughout the show set the stage for highs and lows for each show. I tear up still because of the back ground music that helps with the story.

My father in-law is a Mount Airy native so we didn't spend must time there. We spent 2 days in Pilot Mountain. There was a event happening. Such kind a graces people there. Tons of Barney memorabilia, lots of food. Still the best Chow Chow I even had. Only disappointed that we didn't go to the drive-in that was still open at the time.

I lived in Mt. Airy for a short time around 1961-61 as a child. The town wasn't as Mayberry'ed" is it is now, so I have my own memories of it. The Andy Griffith Show was in full swing at the time and I was certainly aware of the connection. I knew Charles Dowell, the owner of "Snappy Lunch" and Mr. Russell Hyatt at what was the model(?) for the Floyd's Barbershop. Our house was on Forest Drive down the hill from Haymore Street where Andy lived. I knew many people who knew Andy very well; he had even attended church where we did at the time, but not at the same time. I talked to Andy's parents, and met Andy briefly when he slipped into town. It was very short meeting--mostly a "Hi Ya", a handshake, and he was gone. I *do* have Andy's autograph in his own hand--something I'm told was hard to get. Rumors were that Andy could be a bit grouchy when approached by fans, but I suppose because I was a "home folks", I was able to get it with no trouble. He was very nice to me, tho, so I don't know about the rumors...………
I've heard that Andy was a bit ambiguous about his hometown, and was not very well treated prior to his becoming famous. I found my own experience to be less than welcoming and we didn't remain in Mt. Airy long. It IS (and was) a pretty mountain town, and, except for the commercialization, remains pretty much as I remember it. I recommend a stop at the Snappy Lunch for one of Mr. Dowell's (dec.) porkchop sandwiches. Due to the tourist trade, it has expanded somewhat; in '61, it only had the narrow area with a few tables and the lunch counter.

I think the irony of ironies is the apparent fact that, even though Andy Griffith was the anchor of the show, he never really "got it". I guess what I mean is, he never really got it and understood it like us, nor did he really understand us who love the show. If you notice, and all of the things he has said over the years about the show, he never talks like Betty Lynn did in this video. He never expressed the kind of love for the show that we have and like Betty had.
And he never really expressed a heartfelt feeling of love for having done his part in the show like Betty expresses here. Compared to what Betty expresses here, her heartfelt feelings about the show, it's like he just thought of it as a job (a job he did quite well in the first five years) and not something truly special as Betty says.
He never talked about really loving the show, watching the show over and over like Betty and us, and, to my knowledge, he never attended any of the Mayberry functions (like Betty and many others from the show) except the ones that were honoring him specifically.
But, despite all this, the show could have never ever been nearly as great as it was without him. I don't believe there is another actor who could have made the show such a success like he did.

Amazon is a terrible organization, they are contributing to the downfall of this country. I would recommend not having any dealings with them.

Hate to burst y'all's bubbles, but the show was never filmed in North Carolina. Filmed entirely on sets and studios and production lots in Hollywood, Los Angeles and Culver City in California. Never made one single show in North Carolina and none of the stock footage is North Carolina. All California.
When I was a kid I used wonder why everyone on the show was white. How come no people of diversity?

Not many, I'll agree, but my fifth grade teacher was an extra on the show in one of the earlier episodes and she was black.

Watch it closer, the episode where earnest t. Bass is trying to join the army, there are 2 black guys in the physical room. There's several episodes with blacks in it, just gotta look.

I'm from MT. Airy NC and trust me it's nothing like they portray it to be. Everybody is on drugs, stealing and they are making money off of Andy's name.

I live in Lucille Ball's home town and what you describe is exactly what it's like here too. Making money off her and nothing but a cesspool of drugs, drug dealers and run down properties.
