I couldn’t have said it any better. I called Frigidaire when I 1st purchased mine 2yrs ago - they treated me like I was nuts. So I called PC Richards, where I purchased it. They had a tech come out last month to check it. All he did was pull out the knobs acting as if that made a difference. What a waste of my freaking time. They need to have a recall as soon as possible. Regardless if it’s pricey or not, should have nothing to do with the fact that it’s dangerous. This is unacceptable. Maybe we should go to BBB & that may initiate a conversation for a recall.
I am having the same issue with my range. These are beautiful stoves and not cheap. I don't believe the consumer should have to modify this stove but frigidaire should come up with a fix all...
There needs to be a recall. I guess they are waiting for some houses to blow up and loss of life along with a lawsuit or two. That usually gets their attention. All those valves will need to be replaced with stronger resistance when pushing in past the locking part. Maybe send letters to the Consumer Protection Agency.
I have this stove and came home to a house full of gas the other evening. I was gone from home about 45 minutes and it was bad. I had a fire in the wood stove and Im sure glad it was shut down pretty tight! Very Serious Issue!!!!!
We have the same issue with our Frigidaire Galaxy that we purchased a year ago. Both my wife and myself have accidentally turned it on while working around the stove, and we quickly turn it off. But yesterday, while my wife was cleaning the microwave, she accidentally bumped the gas on and we didn’t notice until the smell of gas filled the entire house. I’m amazed that Electrolux and all the other appliance manufacturers ignore this serious life threatening safety design defect. Hey, CPSC, are you paying attention!? If there’s a class action lawsuit, sign me up.
My wife and I went out to dinner one night and when we returned home one burner was on. Apparently our puppy had put her paws up on the stove and turned it on. That could have been very bad. Our dogs could have died from the gas if it hadn't lit or the house could have burned down. Now everytime we leave we take all the knobs off so they can't accidentally turn on the gas and unplug the power cord so they can't accidentally turn on the oven since it has a touch screen for the oven. My wife loves the stove but yes it can be very dangerous. This is the only solution we could come up with to prevent disaster.
That is correct I bought a Frigidaire under Kenmore Elite years ago and I was saved twice from a gas explosion. They never recalled the stove good luck you will need it. I was also on fire in the kitchen I did not get burnt. DO NOT LET THE CHILDREN NEAR THAT STOVE EVER.
I saw a district attorney put a complaint in with the BBB, and nothing has been fixed, or addressed back. Mine does the same thing. I bought the red child protectors from Amazon, they slip and get stuck in my oven door.
Another serious problem with Frigidaire gas stoves of this average model is if you accidentally turn the gas knob the wrong way and it stops on "LOW" but it feels like "Off" in the other direction. Now normally this isn't too dangerous and after a bit you will notice a tiny flame and turn it the other way to "Off". The problem is if you quickly turn it the wrong way the flame will go out but still pump out gas. Imagine if you go on vacation and that little amount of unused gas expands into a cloud and then the furnace/HVAC or refrigerator clicks on and that little electrical spark from the compressor ignites the gas. BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!
If you turn the burner knob quickly to low and the flame goes out then you should adjust the valve so it doesn’t. Refer to the owners manual on how to do it. It requires removing the knob and using a small screwdriver to adjust the screw in the center of the shaft until the flame is high enough without shutting off.
@@judyscheiber3661 *Thanks for the deep insights but as they say, shit happens.* *I do wonder how many people died a horrible death because of this flaw?* 😳
Have the same issue with a different model Frigidaire Gallery gas stove. Our knobs are on the front facing up. My wife has yelled at me a couple times for “forgetting” to turn off the stove. One time I was cleaning something with a small towel and the edge of the towel must have lightly touched it and turned it on. Several other times we smelled gas and discovered that the gas wasn’t totally off. We thought we had turned it off but the knobs can very easily rotate so that gas is leaking into the home. Today I just made breakfast and sat down to eat. Smelled gas. Somehow a burner that I hadn’t even used had the knob slightly on. Gas was leaking into the house!! We are not careless. We cook two or three times a day. Over five years of owning this house, we have only left the kitchen a few times with the knobs on…. BUT many many other times we have caught the issue as or soon after it happened. Now we make a habit of checking the stove every night before bed. Anybody consumer protection about this?
I'm having the same problem. This is the second time we have had a knob turn on while we were sleeping without us knowing. What is a good fix for this? I saw someone said you can get new knobs at walmart. How do you now which ones to get? Is it by the serial number?
Is there 3rd party metal replacement kkobs? Just bought a frigraide cooktop and read nightmare reviews of cheap plastic knobs failing. Shameful that a $1000 product has such issues
I too have a new Frigidaire gas range. I too believe they are dangerous.. I have the gas on twice but I just merely bumping it. Once it went poof on all the burners. I didn't know that the back burner had been turned on with no Ignition. My friend almost had her hand burned while she was cleaning the cabinets. Very dangerous.
Same thing happens to me. There have been many times I have smelled the gas, then realize someone has bumped into one of the knobs since the microwave is directly above the stove. Going to look into getting knob covers.
I share your concern as well. I have a Frigidaire (about 7 years old) and have the same problem. I purchased kid proof knob covers. I am now in the market for a new stove, however this brand is no longer at the top of my list. It appears that this issue has not been referred the their R & D division after 7 + years.
I had similar issue arise with a Frigidaire Gallery gas stove a few days ago. My grandson discovered knob in on position with timeframe unknown.. smell of gas was very noticeable so he immediately opened up the doors to release gas from atmosphere. Scary situation since this could have led to a serious occurrence.
Need to report this to the Consumer Products Safety Commission. We did. Commenting to a You Tube video or calling the manufacturer who doesn't want to spend money to fix it will accomplish nothing.
Also ingot an idea. I have a plastic cutting board that is about the thickness of the gap in the knobs. I’m citing the shape around where the inside would clear and cutting it where there’s about an inch to grab it and pull up the “guard” when I wanna cook. That doesn’t slow it to be turned even by force(you can but intentional) wife was about to buy giant knob covers. This is just a small strip to fill in the gap
I agree. This is one of the dumbest allegations I’ve seen in my 70+ year life. I own the stove. Love it. It doesn’t turn on by itself. I’m a product liability lawyer - now retired. If I worked for Frigidaire he and I would have a conversation about coming into a lab to PROVE whether this is true or not and then video tape it to disprove him. This is the exact same thing that’s happening to my family I came home from work one day and my teenage son was sleeping in his room and the house was full of gas and it’s happened twice since then I’m so scared I don’t know what to do.
We have the same problems also one of the burners is putting out carbon monoxide. my wife hates the stove they are good looking stoves but that's about all just good looking !
Do those burners not have thermocouples on them, thermocouples are a flame failure device which stops the gas coming out if there is no flame. They are standard in the UK. Also if gas is coming out it won't fill your house with carbon monoxide, it will fill it with unburnt gas, which is highly explosive at certain concentrations.
