    I got a Ryco with a thread that was too long caused oil to spray everywhere. Rubbish since they stopped making them in Australia. (Filter was still flush with the rubber but the seal was not good only a few threads long)

    My sister in law worked for decades at the Ryco oil filter factory in Melbourne. She was laid off when they moved production to China about 15 years ago I think.

    The end caps on the Ryco filter are shining! Just like the summit filter that was opened up awhile back. Impressive!👍

    Based on the construction, I would take the Ryco with its metal endcaps, coil spring (my preference) and silicone anti-drainback valve over the Fram/Honeywell-sourced Subaru filter. It looks like Subaru in the United States is moving away from the blue filters back to those made by Tokyo Roki (15208AA12A replaced by 15208AA100) although they may be made in Indonesia instead of Japan.

      @danbrenneman1240 Рік тому +3

      Jeff I would agree. As far as I've seen, I believe Fram/Honeywell is the only manufacturer that uses the fiber end caps. It used to be years ago that alot of people preferred OEM...now you pay for the OEM name and whoever they farm it out to.

      @@danbrenneman1240Toyota, Honda, and Nissan used to offer the finest quality O.E. Filters that you could buy but they all cheapened the quality of their parts beginning with Toyota back in the early 2000s. Nissan and then Honda followed suit. I’ve been an Asian import technician for 30 years and the decline in quality has been disappointing to say the least.

      @@prevost8686It's a shame. I've been in the automotive aftermarket parts industry for 20yrs between NAPA and O'Reillys and a Toyota dealership. The OEM brands were a sign of quality and premium parts, you're right, sadly that's not the case anymore.

      @@danbrenneman1240 When I started my career as a professional technician in 88 the NAPA & Carquest stores were for shops and mechanics that wanted to deal with professional parts men. They also all had their own in-house machine shops . Back then Toyota’s service parts like filters and brake components were a thing of beauty. The attention to detail and lack of shortcuts was awesome. In the late nineties Toyota executives decided that they were losing too much business to the quick lubes and tire stores so to try to be competitive they cut the quality of their fast moving parts. Nippondenso was kept for the Japanese market and the American market got rebranded Purolator filters. Sumitomo brake pads got replaced with Wagner parts. Naturally Nissan and then Honda followed suit with Fram filters . It’s got so bad quality wise that when my customers ask me what new vehicle they should buy I don’t have an answer for them anymore. How stupid can Toyota be to take the world’s most reliable car (Corolla) and put a CVT transmission in it that they know is going to fail and then source the cheapest fluids and filters that they can to service it with? Same with Honda. They take the Accord which has legions of loyal customers and throw a CVT transmission , direct injection and cylinder deactivation in them. It’s a rolling POS no better than anything the Big Three are putting out today. Oh well. I’ll drive my old school Accord and Tacoma until I am too old to drive. I’m not spending my money on the garbage they’re putting out.

    I like that Ryco filter. The Subaru filter looks like the typical auto manufacturor type filter. The Ryco just looks better made. Nice Job Pete, thanks to Paul because it must have cost a few dollars to ship that filter. Hey Pete, you are an international UA-cam star!

    In Australia Ryko and Repco Filters are available from nearly all Autoparts Stores. Ryko Filters are also used in nearly all Garages. For Subaru " Loyalist " stick with OEM other wise Ryko does the Job and use Good Quality Synthetic Oil. Good Comparision between a product that's made in USA vs Product sold in Australian Auto Part Stores.

    I'm a big fan of the rounded or circular edged gaskets. Unless the gasket is large, I've had one non-rounded edge leak oil after 6 months. Not a big deal but it happened in my driveway, during December, and up north in the Upper Midwest USA. I replaced it with an original Toyota filter and had no further leaks.

    here in NZ Ryco is def the market leader, but they're mega-overpriced, retail is around 20 to 30 dollars... I order from overseas and get Japan-made filters and end up paying less even with shipping -- massive markups

    Why is that the OEM always seems to use nitrile rubber ADVs instead of silicone? Cost savings or do most manufacturer’s engineers think silicone is just overkill?

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  Рік тому +1

      Then again, most Motorcraft oil filters have silicone anti-drain back valves.

    I get my subaru engines confused, but I know the 2.0 requires a filter that higher psi before the bypass valve opens. I know Wix came out with a filter thst has this higher psi bypass valve.
    I would take the Ryco over the Sub filter as long as it met the psi specs of the engine
