I joined Ernst & Ernst in 1976. I only had 2 accounting courses in college. So how did I get in? I got a one semester internship based on the recommendation of my accounting professor. Despite my thin resume in accounting I showed them that I had common sense. I was hired as a full time associate after gaduation and made it up to supervisor before my 2 year anniversary. I never passed the CPA exam so I left to join a fortune 500 company. The E&E experience on my resume was more valuable than the CPA designation.
Hi thanks for sharing. When you mention giving examples like for “Leadership”, is it still ok to mention examples outside of work if you’ve been in the workforce for a number of experiences already, please?
Hey, I'm not sure which courses there are on udemy but I've heard overall it's a useful resource. In terms of learning to analyse companies, courses are a good way to go (whether they be through Udemy or Coursera or something else) but you can also learn the techniques though youtube vids, and then apply those to publicly listed companies, which publish their financial data. Hope this helps 🙂
Hey, yes you can certainly become a FA without holding shares in the company. Your compensation package may include share options but you clearly don't need to exercise them if you don't want to. Hope this helps 🙂
Hey I have a question...to prove that you could research in to solving problems...I once told in my interview that I look up in the internet for solutions(I got rejected ofc)....they didnt seem impressed at all with that answer and said it was unreliable...I just want to know what is a good answer to say this next time if I do have an interview with them
Hey. Naturally it's context dependent but you could have added asking someone who may have had experience of the same problem before. Also doing cost/benefit analysis of certain actions to solve the problem.
Hello, unfortunately I didn’t get into any of the big 4s for audit & assurance for the September ‘22 start. I’m quite stuck what to do for the following academic year (graduated in chemical engineering summer ‘21). As I now can’t apply for another 6 months for each firm. I still want to gain the CA qualification, but I’ve heard the opportunities after obtaining this qualification isn’t as great if you gain the CA outside of a big4. What would you advise for someone in my position? Thanks!
Hey i am a semi qualified CA. With bachelor's degree in commerce I want to get into big 4 can you help me with my resume as I have applied to many but didn't got any response... Thanks in advance ☺️
Hi sir this video was very useful. But I am a US CMA student so am I overqualified or underqualifed to work in Big4. And how to get a job in the Big4 abroad
Hey, I wouldn't say you're under or over qualified. The CMA is a well respected qualification and will be looked at favourably by the Big 4. Best of luck with the application.

For an entry level position as Human capital Business Analyst.i have a bsc in Psychologyand now I do my master in HRM and i want this job as crazy. I dont have experience as i was Manager in restaurants and Service. The last 2 years i have started investing in stocks so i have some basic financial knowledge. Do you have any advise or Tip for me to get the Job? Thanks for your Time
Hi, a few things to think about: - what transferable skills can you talk about (from previous job and your masters) - have a clear reason for why you were interested in that role (it will be asked) - research as much as you can about the firm you're applying to Best of luck 😁
Hi, you'll need to think of the transferable skills that you picked up along the way for e.g. strong interpersonal skills. Doing short online finance courses will be helpful as well as it shows your willingness to understand the technical concepts.
Hello Sir, I am an MBA graduate in finance and marketing from not so known college and I have a working experience of 1 year in ICICI Bank and i m still working with it. I want to be placed in BIG 4 . Can you please help!
Sir, right now i am pursuing MBA in finance and Data analytics and in the next year my MBA will be complete. so is there any way i can apply for any big 4 companies? please guide me
Hey, yes you can definitely apply for the Big 4. I'd suggest looking on their careers website and applying. You can inform them that your MBA will complete next year.
Hi I am currently studying MBA in finance i had some questions because our college will invite all big 4 1) what courses will help me stand out among the crowd? 2) What soft skills do i need to get? 3) how do I impress the interviewer? 4) what job roles will they offer to us as a fresher? And if you what something to add up please do add. Thank you
1) I'll be making a video on this topic 2) In terms of just soft skills, don't think much beats a confident speaker 3) Market knowledge specific to their department 4) I imagine mostly in audit
Hey, I m interested in Finance Department. does big 4 only have accounting and auditing jobs or it's also hires for finance stuff? and, I m planning to pursue US CPA so according to my interests in finance should I go for CPA or CFA ? Your opinion is highly appreciated.
@@FinanceUnboxed I was under the Projects Financing for different industries like oil, crops , dairy , hospital, hotel and few more where I prepared financial models including the entire Raising of funds, purchase, manufacture, sales expenses , Cash flows, Debt service coverage ratios etc.. & I also prepared the Cash credit limits and overdraft papers for different organisation alongwith few technical viability reports of the project.
Hello sir. I just got accepted in one of the Big 4 as an Audit associate. May I ask about what should I expect for the day-to-day work routine as a fresher, especially in this specific role? Thank you for the response
Hi there, have you met any junior staff that was in their early 30s? I am currently doing masters in professional accountancy to do a career change from a health professional background. I would love to land a graduate job in one of the big4s but am slightly worried that my age would act as a barrier in getting a graduate job (I will be 31-32). If you have any tips or advice for a mature student, please let me know :). Thank you!
Hey, great job on taking the first step. I wouldn't be too concerned about the age factor, it isn't like you're close to retirement age. I'd try and think of what skills you've developed in your previous role that would be effective when doing a Finance role. Hope this helps.
