I'm very happy that WOE and WOV both worked with the skyrim d9d.dll and .ini add on's. Happy flying everyone because the fix for WOE also work for WOV. :)
This title supports TrackIR. I highly recommend it - it takes the immersion to a new level. (I'm not so secretly wishing that someone makes a VR patch for this.)
I think nowdays it rather makes sense to play Strike Fighters 2 instead of Wings Over Something, because it's the same game, but ported for new Windows versions, supporting more resolutions, more stable, etc.
The issue with Strike Fighters is that multiplayer was never made available where it was available in the Wings Over Series. This is kind of one of the main reason Steam has Wings Over Europe instead of the Strike Fighters series. But you are right, Strike Fighters 2 is more stable and has more add-ons. Just no multiplayer.
Hi! Iam still playing WOV on Windows 10 64 bit but each time I hit "esc" at the end of the mission the games crashes to desktop even if it is patched to Oct 2008. Do you know how to handle this? Thank you.
The game does allow you to play it with keybord or you can configure it to use a gamepad. There are also programs out there for Windows that allow you to use gamepads and joysticks on any game by converting the actions to keyboard commands. I am not so sure about Linux yet as I have slowly been adventureing more and more into it. This game seems to do well in Debian 12 and Linux Mind DE 6 through Steam-Proton too with a joystick setup.
Download patches from the ThirdWire website. As for downloading the game, I have no clue as I have the CD. For that, you might be able to find the CD from eBay or Amazon.
This game is still fun to play to this day 😀(2024)

Try dgVoodoo wrapper, works fine for me. The skyrim hack caused my game SFP1) to crash on mission end
this game its flight simulator or more like arcade? you need joystick to play it?
what a shame... not any dogfight... but not every mission on fighter is dogfight ;)

I have this but, ever since the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, my frame rates have dropped to single digits. Can't play it anymore. :(
