AMAZING! 2x (/3) 1988 KONE M T. Elevators (Night) @ Rocco Forte Angleterre Hotel, St Petersburg, RUS

I stayed in this hotel for just one night between 08-09.01.2020 (and filmed some more elevators I could get), as I really needed to stay here before the 1988 KONE M elevators got replaced, and they had already started when I finally made it - one was already under modernization but two were still working, so got three last videos on them, just like a sort of the real old mini-Finland atmosphere captured in Saint Petersburg. Also all doors and profile doors are from Finland.
Still better than nothing though and the hotel experience was overall splendid - the room and marble bathroom with bathtub, corridors and other interiors. the sauna area (original since early 1989 was lovely, too). Didn't try the breakfast though as it was too expensive and not included in the room rate.
The sister hotel Astoria (to which this hotel is connected via the corridors have had its elevators already modernized by KONE with KSS fixtures again, and took just one video of it. Fr some strange reason, only the Angleterre Hotel requires a key card when riding the elevators, so that was another reason I had to stay here, since 2016 (I planned in New Years 2017 or 2019 but only now managed to do it, a few days after New Year 2020).
The Rocco Forte Angleterre Hotel in Saint-Petersburg, Russia is a business-class luxury hotel that was originally constructed in 1840 as the Napoleon's and enlarged in 1886-89, when a fourth floor added, and the name changed to the Hotel Angleterre. It was supposed to be demolished and replaced by an enlargement of the sister Hotel Astoria, designed by the Russian-Swedish Architect Fyodor Lidvall in 1912, but the outbreak of World War 1 prevented this. Between 1919-25 (just now 100 years ago) its name was the Hotel International, and during 1948 - early 1970s Hotel Leningradskaya.
In 1985 the hotel closed, and in 1987, during Perestroika, the city authorities decided to demolish the aging hotel and replace it with a modern building with a facade copying the original. Members of the public gathered on St. Isaac's Square to protest the plan. It was the first major public protest in the history of the Soviet Union to be left unpunished by the authorities. The hotel was ultimately demolished on 18 March 1987. The current hotel opened in 1991, and the elevators were manufactured by KONE in late 1988 but now being modernized with KSS fixtures as the Astoria has been already.
Please note that all the other videos from Saint-Petersburg 8-9.January 2020 will come later as well as from Vyborg after staying one night at the Hotel Druzhba (where one out of two elevators was still a completely original classic KONE elevator, imported in 1981, so completely worth it).
