"Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?" "War. War never changes." "Kravchenko, Steiner, Dragovich...all must die." "Protocol 3, protect the Pilot." "Everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story." "Arthur, you're my brother." "But when I'm gone, everyone will remember my name, Big Smoke."
Jaiden Tezram The vault hunters think they’re the heroes too but this game showed us they were one of the things that caused handsome jack to go full villain
When Jack said " Everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story." That hit me so hard, because he is the hero. He's the hero with villainous ways, everyone turned on him and they attempted to murder anyone affiliated with the so called villian, only furthering his resolve to purge the "bandits". Of course he had some messed up ways of trying to get to the vault, enslaving Angel, killing vault hunters just trying to make a living, but to me he was so just in these actions, no one thinks what would have happened had he succeeded, he probably would've given angel the universe, make being a bandit like a cowboy outlaw in the 2000's: absolutely absurd.and made the world a utopia. This qoute is probably one of video games most iconic qoutes in gaming history.
Also he was the only one who had displayed the ability of harnessing and controlling the Eldritch monstrosities inside the vaults, stopping them from inflicting mindless havoc on the world.
I know this video is old and Jack’s narrative has ended, but he’s a character I genuinely feel sorry for. He imprisoned Angel because she accidentally killed her mother with her extreme, uncontrollable power. He killed the Meriff because he’d attempted to shoot him in the back. He killed the scientists after his encounter with the Meriff because he was scared of being betrayed again... Generally speaking, he killed a few in an attempt to save millions... He definitely was an unstable person, to say the least, yet every choice he made was (arguably) justified. He did horrific things... yet they seemed to be for the greater good. Sadly the concept of heroism led him into madness - he could not perceive himself as anything but a hero, likely due to narcissism. One of his lines that really struck me was “Please don’t kill my baby girl”. Despite everything, he still loved Angel and was willing to ditch his entire agenda for her. I definitely feel like I’m rambling now but I really love Jack’s character. He tried to do well, he really did. I love your video, you’ve really created the perfect atmosphere. It feels just right.

@Sisugg Right on. People seem to think Jack was good before the presequel. What they seem to forget is that he had already enslaved Angel by then. Moxxi also left him before he was a psychopath.

Mike jack was never the villain he was always the hero in borderlands you play as the villain jack is trying to give the people of Pandora a safer place to live and you take all of what he has left to stop him
soulslight gaming I feel the same way, but I just like the word villain better then hero just has a better ring to it. "YOU'RE A SAVAGE, YOU'RE MANIAC, YOU ARE A BANDIT, AND I AM THE GODDAMN HERO!!!" At least there's the theory it was thanks to Jack seeing the future that he placed Timothy in his stead to that moment so he could see the map to the other Vaults, it's a pretty damn likely scenario

Handsome Jack: the modern definition of a Shakespearean tragedy. and the reason why he's my all time favorite video game villain. His conflicts were grounded, motivations were clear, and struggles were real. He became a man with nothing left to lose, and continued to tell himself he was the hero. I still debate in my mind whether he was right or not. But what I know for sure is that Jack could've been redeemed, perhaps not in the sense of "Oh, I immediately forgive you and I forget about everyone who betrayed me and hurt me." No... Jack could've found the way to be the hero he wanted to be... but he fell so far. Nevertheless, Handsome Jack is hands down my favorite villain. And that's why I'm getting the same tattoo he has on his wrist on mine.
Favorite hero/villain... When I killed him the second time in tales from the borderlands I felt bad watching him plead for us to not kill him... From high on top of the world concerning planets and ruling Hyperion to the bottom and being killed by the new handsome jack
I've seen this video almost 2 years ago.. and my god it's still incredible to rewatch, it's so tragic and emotional... you can see how good he once used to be and then his turn to pure evil because of everything other people have done to him... and what he became.. this video is a literal masterpiece!

How you put it all together keeps making me cry. And this video makes me love Jack more then before. It makes me feel so bad for him and ... Ahhhh, it's so well put together
handsome jack really was the hero:( ive always thought that since the first time i played the games, and i always will think that. i'm going to cry in a corner now, this was so sad. lol
One of the most complex character. Character, whis is not 100% good or bad. One of the best heroes. One of the best vilains. Just Jack. And this video will always make me cry. Beautiful work.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. While Jack is technically the antagonist, since he's the one actively seeking to wipe out the vault hunters, it's really a mutual story of survival. Both sides are fighting for their lives. Jack wanted to protect his family, and the twisted rules of Pandora made his daughter kill his wife, all because bandits attacked his family. So he's trying to protect what he has left. He wasn't trying to imprison Angel. He was trying to protect her. To keep her safe from those who would do her harm just for being a Siren, which she had no choice in. At the same time, the vault hunters HAVE to fight back. If they don't then Jack will simply wipe them out. They wanted to free Angel, but she was so entrenched in Jack's bunker that the only way to free her was spiritually. They couldn't physically rescue her. And in the immediate aftermath, in a fit of rage, he killed Roland and doubled down on his original goals because what else does he have at that point? The Raiders never gave him an option for peace. They saw his actions, and interpreted it as a grab for power. They deemed him a mad man, because they were operating on different sets of information and there was no trust between them. Under different circumstances, Jack could have been an ally and an asset to the Raiders. A link to the top brass of Hyperion, and a way to use their resources to peacefully reform and cultivate the planet. But instead, it all became a mad dash for power at all costs. Jack isn't pure evil, and the Raiders are not innocent. That's just the perspective we're given. Or, as Jack says it "everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story." Our story in Borderlands 2 is as a Crimson Raider. And taking the pre-sequel and giving us the opposite perspective was a narrative stroke of genius.
I’m here after completing BL3, and this kinda hits me. I miss Handsome Jack.. he’s by far one of the best gaming villains out there. The Calypsos were not bad at least in my opinion, but none will ever come close to the one and only Handsome Jack.
I’ve come back listened to this a lot and I came to realize Roland was the only one who felt bad about what happened to jack when he says sorry jack you can hear some hint of sadness in his voice Meanwhile Lilith and moxi don’t care at all
Loved all the story line, everything about this video is just... wow. ''Everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story'' I'll never forget these words.
Man I was looking in my liked videos....I started 8 days ago scrolling AS FAST AS POSSIBLE and I see this....I watched this around 5 years ago and I'm still in love with it, this is just perfect.
This was beautiful. I love the fact that the pre-sequel showed Jack's rise to power and how he went from someone who I believe really wanted to do good to someone who becomes the evil person he is in the second game that doesn't care about the actions only the results of what happens
Dude this is great especially to someone like me who's been keeping up with the borderlands timeline, this is so good on so many levels, cheers to the creator 👏👏
What the Pre-Sequel never addresses is the fact that while Jack was being the "Hero" Angel was already locked up and being used by him for his sadistic purposes. She appeared in BL 1 which predated the Pre-Sequel, and the Echo logs indicate he locked her up when she was much younger than she was in BL 1. That is probably the reason Moxxi betrayed him and the others went along with it. He was never a good guy to begin with.
Exactly. People are like "Fuck Lilith, she betrayed him!", yet they forget about how seconds ago Jack had just murdered the 4 scientists responsible for getting him back to Helios/his robot army? Plus, as you mentioned, he'd already enslaved Angel and had been pumping her up full of Eridium for a while now. Also, when he confronted the Meriff, the Meriff was scared shitless of Jack for some reason.
While yes that’s true he was going to bring order to the land the bandits and vault hunters are the real villains on the story they only bring death and destruction wherever they go
Jack had peaceful intentions and a vision for a better world. What happens? He gets betrayed by everyone he cared about. Sure, you can argue that he did some questionable things in his pursuit for peace, but his good intentions would've saved millions. Jack is a hero. Hands down
Stephanie Stark I'm still amazed that even though I made this video ages ago it still has impact on people. :) once i get a new laptop I'll be back on the video hype
hate to say it, but nope. i'm with you on the fact that everyone you can play as in BL and BL2 is pretty far from a 'hero' (i mean c'mon, they're vault hunters, not firemen) but handsome jack is a villain through and through. an interesting and COMPLEX one, but still a villain. in BL2, he's absolutely ruthless toward both the player character and everyone on pandora itself. sanctuary is a great example of this! i can excuse some of jack's justification 'nothing but bandits on that planet' for trying to 'tame' pandora, because in the games that's basically 90% of the encounters you'll ever make while playing, but the other 10% is what makes him a villain in the borderlands universe. sanctuary is FULL of citizens that want nothing more than to mind their own business and see the next sunrise. and yet jack deliberately tried to destroy this place for no further reason than "because bandits". killing indiscriminately, angel, and hyperion as a company makes jack a villain, no question.
Thank youuuuu! See? These guys know what the hell they're talking about! They're all just blood lust money whoring shitiots. At least I tried saving the world. I mean, sure I've done some......you know... bad things to accomplish that goal, but Uhhh.. Hey I had the right mind set okay!? Better than those frickin idiots.
So uhh... they got you too, huh? DAMN! they kill you at Opportunity? I was hoping I could use you to help transfer my AI. Getting a liiiittle bit nervous. N-not that I'm worried or anything, but uhh... are there any more clones?

ive always thought that since the first time i played the games, and i always will think that.
i'm going to cry in a corner now, this was so sad. lol
Borderlands 2: Alternate Ending
Where you can shoot Lilith instead and helping Handsome Jack get his happiness again
One of the most complex character. Character, whis is not 100% good or bad. One of the best heroes. One of the best vilains. Just Jack. And this video will always make me cry. Beautiful work.
He was the hero of his own story
And Handsome jack has one of the best back stories ever
Rip handsome jack BL1 to BL2
The music...the evil inside him is growing with it :(
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
He should have his own movie he is such a interesting character really it could be great hes on Joker level
cool now I'm crying great whatever this is fine
Handsome Jack the best part is your username and it's pic
Handsome Jack *hugs*
You need this... after everything that happend...
Paint Pallet,
okay, S T O P N O W
At first I thought he was crazy to start with but now I see all he wanted was to bring order and he was betrayed by his friends
I’m here after completing BL3, and this kinda hits me. I miss Handsome Jack.. he’s by far one of the best gaming villains out there. The Calypsos were not bad at least in my opinion, but none will ever come close to the one and only Handsome Jack.
I’ve come back listened to this a lot and I came to realize Roland was the only one who felt bad about what happened to jack when he says sorry jack you can hear some hint of sadness in his voice
Meanwhile Lilith and moxi don’t care at all
Loved all the story line, everything about this video is just... wow. ''Everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story'' I'll never forget these words.
Cheers
Man I was looking in my liked videos....I started 8 days ago scrolling AS FAST AS POSSIBLE and I see this....I watched this around 5 years ago and I'm still in love with it, this is just perfect.
This means a lot, I appreciate it :)
This was beautiful. I love the fact that the pre-sequel showed Jack's rise to power and how he went from someone who I believe really wanted to do good to someone who becomes the evil person he is in the second game that doesn't care about the actions only the results of what happens
This really shows you all the things that happen from his perspective. Gets you to feel sorry for Handsome Jack
This is the best piece of work I’ve ever seen!
Bravo!
Jack had it all it the was the vault hunters that stood in his way
If borderland 3 begining is like we can pick a side like either we can choose to betray lilith and join hyperion, I would totally choose that
Xbox killer yep fuck the crimson raiders
Hell yes, i'd love to betray the raiders. Moxxi and lilith deserve to pay for what they did.
heck, I would join any faction as Long as I can kill lilith
@@denisn8336 lilith is so lazy she couldnt even prepare a Little army or anything honestly those were 5 years not 5 weeks
amazing job!
you gotta admit though, deep down you can’t help but feel bad for jack
This video is so good it almost makes me cry. The only single downside is that sometimes the music is so much louder than the voices.
Yeah I agree. If I had made this video now (more experience) audio would be much better :D
@@keirvr3318 This is such a great video anyway. Definitely one of my favourites overall.
@@TheFroslas Mine too :) Out of all the videos i've made, this probably my favourite i've done
I cried so many times i love handsome jack so much..his story is sad..and i think he is cool
He is just a mis understood hero who needed people to trust and call friends and call them family
Borderlands 2 has a plase in my heart forever🖤😎
I'm reviewing for the hundredth time and still crying
most people only see jack as as a villon but he is only trying to help out Pandora
I"M NOT CRYING ITS SWEAT IN MY EYE
"Everyone thinks their the hero of their own story..." - Handsome Jack
Holy shit deep.
Masterpiece! Please make more videos of Handsome Jack!!
+Alocy Cosplay :D There's no much else to say about him, unless you've got some ideas I can take on board?
Dude this is great especially to someone like me who's been keeping up with the borderlands timeline, this is so good on so many levels, cheers to the creator 👏👏
Jack needs to be in the borderlands film, hope he's cast correctly. Would love him to return in one of the future games. Brilliantly tragic character.
Showed my brother the dialogue he got goosebumbs just from listening
“Battle not with monsters lest you become a monster. And if you gaze into the abyss the abyss also looks into you”
This is so well made thank you for this ( five years ago)
And thank you for watching :)
Dameon Clarke did such a great job in bringing Jack to life.
боже мой я смотрю это какой раз и просто рыдаю аАаааАаА
I hate them for not allowing Evil Ending. To join Jack for whatever cost.
I miss Jack so damn fricking-daddily much.
While yes that’s true he was going to bring order to the land the bandits and vault hunters are the real villains on the story they only bring death and destruction wherever they go
It is how it is
That moment when you prefer the Pre-Sequel over Borderlands 2 because you don't wanna kill Jack
That's what I would do if I was betrayed by everyone I cared about.
Jack had peaceful intentions and a vision for a better world. What happens? He gets betrayed by everyone he cared about. Sure, you can argue that he did some questionable things in his pursuit for peace, but his good intentions would've saved millions.
Jack is a hero. Hands down
the borderlands series ,except of the guns and loot, has a really good and dark story behind! I love this franchise!
Thanks for this. I love Jack. Well... Handsome Jack
i feel sosososo bad for jack i will hug jack and made him happy ;(
10/10 best video game villain
Sometimes I feel like Jack, happy and optimistic but every ones gotta hyde in them somwhere, well done.
I’m not crying... you’re crying. 😭😭
Stephanie Stark I'm still amazed that even though I made this video ages ago it still has impact on people. :) once i get a new laptop I'll be back on the video hype
Keir Stannard oh I love it! I honestly love Handsome Jack, and this video is so so amazing! It’s the best Handsome Jack video on the Internet!
Call me Jack...
Handsome Jack
Cheers guys!
I loved Jacks charaster the minute I saw him, it makes me so goddamn sad that he wont be in borderlands 3
He is not completely dead
Well, I got hit with the feels train towards the end.
Im watching this late, but best video ive EVER seen
Jack was the good guy all along....
Long live the Hero!
This was so well put together. Good job!
Well, goddamn. Made me love and sympathize Jack even more
In this game you aren't fighting someone who is entirely evil. Meanwhile the character you are playing isn't entirely good
Why are all the channels with the lowest amount of subs make things better than the best people, you need to be recognized
If one person says they enjoy it that's enough for me
@@keirvr3318 I'm glad you have a positive outlook
that was so well put together
Guys, handsome jack is actually a hero. Please understand we are playing as the antagonists
hate to say it, but nope. i'm with you on the fact that everyone you can play as in BL and BL2 is pretty far from a 'hero' (i mean c'mon, they're vault hunters, not firemen) but handsome jack is a villain through and through. an interesting and COMPLEX one, but still a villain. in BL2, he's absolutely ruthless toward both the player character and everyone on pandora itself. sanctuary is a great example of this! i can excuse some of jack's justification 'nothing but bandits on that planet' for trying to 'tame' pandora, because in the games that's basically 90% of the encounters you'll ever make while playing, but the other 10% is what makes him a villain in the borderlands universe. sanctuary is FULL of citizens that want nothing more than to mind their own business and see the next sunrise. and yet jack deliberately tried to destroy this place for no further reason than "because bandits". killing indiscriminately, angel, and hyperion as a company makes jack a villain, no question.
+Ashley Edge i'd elaborate further but there's a character limit on mobile and eh
Beautiful.
Ahhh those were the days were'nt they? Fair enough vid kiddo. Not bad.
So uhh... they got you too, huh? DAMN! they kill you at Opportunity? I was hoping I could use you to help transfer my AI. Getting a liiiittle bit nervous. N-not that I'm worried or anything, but uhh... are there any more clones?
*hugs them both*
You guys really need this hug... after everything that happend... I hope it makes you guys feel better...
HANDSOME JACK hey there's my twin Jack
Paint Pallet,
Alright after 7 months I'm gonna tell you right now.
STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING. IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE TO HAVE RELATIONS WITH A DEAD PERSON.
Don't take this the wrong way...but killing you every playthrough was enjoyable.
OMG so ManY EMOTIONS
You guys arent the only ones crying🖤🖤🖤🖤
Damn this is like a sequel for this game except 5 years late.
