While I haven’t sworn off the brand completely, I honestly don’t see myself adding anything new in the near future and if I do, it’ll most likely be Preloved for the reasons I stated in this video. I’m hopeful they’ll turn it around and if not, dude it’s not that big of a deal, it’s not the end of the world, they are just bags♥️

So sad but true! Was feeling this way about my new canvas Damier Azur but I did just pay $2.2k on it so yeah, it needs to be tight. No mess-ups! I had to wait MONTHS for this NF to restock too. I was actually wondering if they were going to discontinue their canvas pieces for a while because they were out of stock for so long. Do you feel this way about Chanel? I think I am just going to go with Gucci, YSL, and a few other small luxe brands. I will say buying the bag at this high end should be like going to a Mercedes-Benz dealership, with completely white-glove treatment. Nothing like my experience at Ford or even a Toyota dealership.

The crappy customer service, crappy designs and quality issues really has me turning away from LV. I bought a bag and in two months the paint was chipping. They told me I had to take photos and send it to repair for an assessment. That’s absurd for the amount we pay!!

If we all stop buying their poorly made bags, and demand top quality, maybe they’ll do something and change the way this bags are made. WE ALL SHOULD STICK TOGETHER AND STOP BUYING THEIR BAGS AND DEMAND FOR QUALITY AND WELL MADE MATERIALS!!!

The first sign of the brand going downhill was the use of "shiny metal" instead of pure brass. Unacceptable in a "luxury" brand.

    • @andreav2175
      @andreav2175 Рік тому +2

True. If it at least was a high-performing shiny “metal” we could live with it. But everyone’s new LV bags and charms show tarnishing and/or chipping within six months of normal/gentle usage - THAT’S a slap in the face. Hundreds of other brands, cheaper bags, use metals to a decent standard. It’s been long enough - they’re in contempt of their customers at this point. They KNOW the LV undefined “metal” is garbage. LV charges more than enough to fix any problem like this.

    • @KateKay28
      @KateKay28 Рік тому

Agreed but I don’t think this was just recent pieces. Have one that’s almost 25 yrs old and the hardware has many spots where the “shiny” has peeled away. Don’t feel anything I’ve gotten in past couple years is worse quality in that aspect.

LV pre instagram was top notch! what they know now is that new money insta status don't care about quality issues as long as the bag is in the photo! this is where the world is. it is what it is. some of us are fortunate to have well seasoned pre social media LV pieces.

THANK YOU for making this video. I've seen Louis Vuitton's drastic drop in quality during the past several years, accompanied by unreasonable and frequent price increases. I baby my bags, yet all of my LV purchases since 2015 have aged horribly and way sooner than they should have (I'm talking weeks to a couple of months here) and as the years pass, newer items have only gotten noticeably worse. Thinner canvas cracking included. It's so disheartening since LV was also my first love, but when contemporary brands are able to release consistently excellent quality all-LEATHER bags for under $400 with zero issues, there's simply no excuse. It only highlights LV's greed and arrogance imho. Reliability in a brand's quality brings loyalty, and sadly I also stopped "investing" in LV as of late.
I, too, was a hardcore "LV only" bag collector in the beginning, but I guess I'm glad to have been able to branch out to other brands and enjoy better quality! I am now afraid to purchase any items made by all brands under the LVMH umbrella, based on how they've chosen to steer.
Vintage LV quality is unmatched, and all of my vintage pieces (most over 25-30 years old) are my most cherished simply because of how beautifully they have held up. They are far surpassing every LV piece I'd purchased that were made since. An ode to what the brand used to be, and frankly, what brought them here. That quality is what made me fall in love with LV, not what they're producing now.

Years ago, buying from them was an EXPERIENCE. I remembers buying a backpack, wallet, and key holder in the 90s. All were perfect. I didn't even think about quality and the customer service was great. It felt special and wearing the pieces felt special. There was no stress. Life is stressful enough and bags are supposed to be fun. It's not supposed to be a nail biter experience, but now it is. And, because I remember what luxury should be and should feel like, I won't buy from them now. I'm not a gambler. I won't play a slot machine- so I'm definitely not betting $3000 on a potentially loser bag.

So glad you made this video. As a first time luxury buyer (a year ago), I was so excited to have a Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 as my very first bag/intro to luxury! I did extensive research and hunted down this bag like no other. I remember it being like Christmas going to the store and expecting this entire experience. From the moment I got to the front doors, I was incredibly disappointed. Focusing back on the bag itself, it was severely flawed. Even the lock looked like it was at least ten years old. My dust bag had a hole in it and was way too big for the bag itself. So disappointing and it took me two more tries (returns) before I finally decided to call a Nordstrom and have them send me a Speedy 30 from another state. Such a stressful experience, I couldn’t even enjoy my bag. I look at it and only think of negative experiences. It’s definitely my least favorite luxury brand bag and I think I even settled for the quality of this one :( .

I think I was heading towards an LV purchase on my handbag journey a few years back. My mind changed fast after the quality issues and continuous price increases became a norm. I skipped the Pochette Metis and went for Coach Cassie instead. I skipped the Neverfull and got a Coach Field tote 40, a Diane von Furstenberg tote and a Longchamp Le Pliage in the same size as a NF GM. I skipped the Speedy and got a similar style in a vintage store. There are just so many better alternatives. Ones, that don't include saying ten Hail Mary's before opening the box and hoping for the best. I think LV is sending a message that they want to be like H&M, fast fashion and people shouldn't be surprised if a bag is flawed. They just want people to pay luxury prices for a fast fashion experience.

Completely agree. Perfect example, I just purchased a limited edition card holder and had to return it due to uneven glazing, scratches on the hardware and the canvas overall just felt thinner than my other LV card holder. It’s definitely a bummer when you are so excited about these items and they show up defected. The rumors are true, prices are going up and quality has going down 👎🏼 thanks Minnie for sharing your thoughts, it’s always appreciated 🫶🏼

My mother and I have been wearing Louis Vuitton majority of our lives. She had her speedy 35 for 15 years and it was time to get her a new one. In 2008 I bought her one. That’s when they had thinned out on the canvas. Within six months she had holes in the bottom of her bag. Holes! When we contacted them, they said it must’ve been the way she was wearing it. But she wasn’t wearing any differently than she was wearing the other one that she had for 15 years.
After spending $850 there were holes in her bag. We couldn’t even believe that. I have tons of Louis Vuitton bags are over 30 years old and they are still in excellent condition.
I don’t know how anybody’s canvas cracked but I don’t believe that using thinner canvas makes the bag better or is easier to repair.
I stopped buying Louis Vuitton bags after that. I only buy their boots and accessories. They lost my bag business for life. I will only be purchasing pre-2005 Louis Vuitton as that is worth it in my opinion.

I bought another speedy B 35 and when I received it in the mail the red stitching was showing thru on the chaps & wrinkled leather on the side leather strips, when I inquired about it I was told that’s just how it is now and they showed me 3 more in store with the same problem. But what got me was the SA said “it’s not like your buying a bag that’s so expensive” .. wait what I just paid $2625 CAD for this .. I know there’s other bag’s at a much higher price but that’s still not cheap!! I was so shocked he said that.. so I decide no more LV’s for me!

This is so true. The last new bag I bought in a boutique is asymmetrical, the handles and fleurs don’t match up, but I ignored that because it it so cute, it is hard to find in stock, and I knew it was authentic. Then I bought an 18-year-old Suhali L’Epanoui, and it is SOOO stunningLY beautiful and perfect after nearly 2 decades! And I wondered if I would feel the same about my new bag 20 years from now. The answer is probably no. At these prices, it really made me think.

I don’t think i bought anything from LV that didn’t need to be repaired. I’m still so mad that my 4 year old Pochette Metis started cracking in all corners and LV is charging me 510 for repairing it.
I had no choice because if i reject repair they will give my bag back not-repaired after weeks of them having my bag. The charges was $390 for the flap since they needed to fix the crack and its a continuous canvas they have to replaced the whole entire flap. $120 for canvas care. I literally wanted to toss the bag in the trash!
The SA specifically said they fixed all issues when i bought mine in 2017. I’m so over it. And thanks for this video i totally agree LV is going downhill with their quality.Better buy coach it will lasts more than 4 years for sure.

I hate to say it but I agree with you 100%. Back in the Day (2006), I fell hard for Louis Vuitton, and quality was NEVER a worry of mine, as far as I can recall anyway. Everything was near-perfect, and the service I received was exceptional, oh and I could get a mini pochette for $215! The company has become obscenely greedy, no surprise there, and the fast-fashion like collections they are barfing out every few months leave me very uninspired, especially at the absurd prices they are charging. I don't know if I will add anything else.... I do love one of their new fragrances, but it's over $500! You're mainly paying for a fancy bottle cap and of course the name. Alas, I cannot.

    -Use perfect and pristine item
-If item is damaged over time, send it in
    -Obtain repaired item
    -Use Item
    -Gift Item to children
    -Item is used by children
-Children grow up and gift item to their children
My literal grandma gifted me items from the 1950‘s that are still in good condition, anything for 2000$+ should operate in that way!

I agree!! Of all my LV bags and slgs, only two were purchased new in the boutique. The rest were purchased pre-loved and quality and price are the reasons why. But speaking of price, the cost of pre-loved has become ridiculous. My justification? The quality is better with older pieces than what LV is putting out today.

I love your video because it validates my suspicious thoughts about the quality of their canvas, which feels too thin and light compared to their prices. I only had experienced with my mom's LV and the brand had never appealed to me, and I just stepped in to check out their Yayoi Kusama collection. I feel you, Chanel on the other hand seems to uphold their quality with prices. Well, maybe getting pre-loved ones is the way for LV.

Hi Mini, I totally agree with you. The canvas nowadays is very thin and flimsy, the craftsmanship is lacking and the customer service is definitely not like before. I went in couple months ago, made an appointment ahead of time as I only had limited free time that day. Still waited for 35 min before being served. Then when I told them about cracks on my 3 year old pochette metis, the guy told me yes canvas will crack eventually its normal. I was like this bag has been very gently used for 3 years. Like maybe 10 times. And it's normal that the canvas will crack in 3 years time? I fell like I was at Walmart for a minute. Because I can't believe LV quality only last 3 years. I have a speedy from 1983 and there's no crack on it at all. So I asked to speak to a manager and he too was trying to tell me that canvas will crack and my bag is already 3 years old so....i gave him the most disbelief face. He end up sending in for repair for me free of charge. However, I just still couldn't believe the explanation from these people. I will not buy new anymore. It's getting very expensive and quality and service does not match the price tag. I am so happy you made this video because I can't agree with you more.

I was sent a bag and the strap had peeling/lifting glazing on all four corners at the ends. My home store refused to exchange it for me…a brand new unused bag. The ca who mailed me the bag had been ghosting me. I was fed up and just settled and wanted the strap repaired since the bag was fine. I submitted a request online for a repair. They accepted the repair for no charge and I mailed the bag. A week later LV emailed me stating my bag was being mailed back to me from repair. I was excited by how quick they were. I opened the package and my bag was there but no strap. I panicked thinking they would think I was lying if I called saying it was missing. I called and long story short they said that since the strap is a spare part they have to order and wait on it so they decided to mail me back my bag. You’d think someone would have communicated this to me. All this extra work and headache for me because they sent me a faulty strap on a new bag to begin with. You’d think they would just give me a whole new bag and strap. But no. Buying with them is such an inconvenience nowadays. I’m over their quality and lack of customer service. I’m going to explore other brands. I’m done for now, I have my purse peace with them anyways lol

I still love the Monogram canvas but I’m comfortable to tread lightly and take a step back from all the reasons you stated and like you, I am hopeful for the company to right their wrongs. Great video! You are so right!! Every delivery I get from LV, I’m opening the box thinking “please be perfect🤞”… which is ridiculous at this price point! Then instead of being delighted on opening the box, I spend the next hour inspecting every inch of the new bag 😢 I just got the Speedy 25 in empreinte and had to exchange because the handles were uneven like visibly not level with each other! But I loved it so exchanged it for a perfect one but it took away all the joy!!

I’ve had to return several items I bought online for quality issues. It’s bad. They sent me a bag in a box that was too small for that bag. The box was cracked and dirty on the corners. And the bag was damaged for being squished in a smaller box. It has really turned me off on the brand. On the other hand, Gucci has always been spot on when it comes to quality and service. I get perfect pieces each time from them and the packaging is A+

Every LV bag I have purchased over the last 2 years has been pre-loved. The quality of their older bags is so much better. I am on the YSL train now, and I love it. Amazing quality, reasonably priced for a luxury brand, and what you pay for canvas from LV you can get a full leather bag from Saint Laurent. Louis Vuitton has definitely forced my hand to explore other designers.

Minnie, you are so on point. I feel they come out with so many collections, which aren't classic, creative or necessary. First off, let me start by saying that I love your content! Regarding your video, I agree 100%. I’ve just recently gotten into the luxury handbag world and Louis Vuitton has been my favorite. But I do agree in regards to the quality. Which is disappointing, especially with their constantly rising prices. Smh. Also, have you done a video of your forever pieces? That would be nice to see :)

Ahhh Minnie, I agree. Going into the boutiques has lost its luster for me. I honestly have put a hold on all of my luxury bag purchases. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!! It is heartbreaking as LV has been my favorite brand for 20+ years now. I have moved towards pre-loved as well. I purchased a Trevi PM around the same time that you purchased one and the quality is insanely gorgeous and sustainable as compared to the quality of the new LV bags where we have to double think quality vs cost. I’ve experienced crooked seams, mismatched vachetta…just so disappointing. Thanks for the addressing this issue Minnie.

I just purchased my 2nd Speedy25 Bandouliere in DE last Saturday, I made sure I’ll buy it from the store because I don’t want to receive a return if I’ll purchase online.
I compared my old to the new and saw huge difference with the canvass and handle finish. But I made sure what I’m getting isn’t a return, I asked right away, my SA’s eyes 😆 she checked and the one that I got definitely not a return actually it was delivered in that particular store the day before I came, was very happy about it. I inspected everything, the hardware and all, and you’re absolutely right it shouldn’t be that way. The sad reality.
Always a great content, thank you. 😍

My speedyb25 from 2016 has cracked canvas. I mistakenly thought the bag would last many many years. Technically the cracks don’t make it not useable, but I thought it’d take several years for something like this to happen. Breaks my heart because it’s the most practical bag ever and luxury bags are major purchases imo. I guess I broke up with LV (buying new anyway) when this happened a year ago and after their ridiculous price increases. I did buy a Noe from 1993 in black Epi leather from fashionphile this year. It’s amazing. Much better quality than my speedyb25.

I had to send back a new monogram Speedy 20 made in USA for a crooked handle and uneven stitching on the chaps that hold the handle. I did not reorder it. I got the daily pouch and the top section of leather on the side was not lined up correctly. I did exchange it. I have a 1995 boulogne, I bought preloved. The price was great (well under 1k) and I compared it to the new version. The old one is bigger and the leather corners seem to be thicker. You cannot remove the strap but that doesn’t bother me. I cannot tell if the canvas is thicker but the 1995 version is lined in a leather or leather like material. The inside pocket had peeled which is the only fault and one stitch on the pocket was loose. It is still a very useable bag.

I bought a felicie pochette Damier Ebene and the stitching on one side was missing and badly stitch at the edge and the manager told me it is a handmade piece, unique and she showed me one with Epi leather with perfect stitching. She told me to not believe or watch UA-cam videos. Also I have to take back a neverfull Damier Ebene that was 5 months old gently used that the leather strap cracked, they give a new one.
I just feel bad about returning or complain about the quality but for the price it should be perfect. The last piece that I purchased was made in France but the round coin purse from the multipochette accessories has a strong chemical smell and they told me that they will order me a new one but next time I have to pay because the smell was not a defect. Basically it’s just me being picky, and I paid the price with the last increase.

I agree with you. I just got the new Diane and the stitching and spacing was so imperfect it really bugged me. I got the best out of 4, but I was sorely disappointed. The SA tried to tell me every bag is handmade. No, it’s not. If it was they would have used a spacer for the stitches and it would have been PERFECT!!! What the heck happened to their previous artisans? I agree with you. They need to scale back. They can’t keep up. I don’t like it. I think this one is going back. We often start off loving a brand then a few years later we find we’re complaining that their quality isn’t what it was. The more you buy from a particular brand the more faults you’re likely to find, simply because you have more of their goods. My popular, made-for-the-masses LV bag is a thinner canvas which I think works better for its style. My two other bags have a thicker canvas and feel more substantial but they aren’t popular bags at all, one discontinued. I wonder if there are different weights or grades of canvas depending on what bag they’re making? I’ve only bought online from LV and out of 6 items in 3 yrs, only one has had to go back but that did look like it had been made on a Friday afternoon/Monday morning.

Yes, you're totally right. In the EU, all corporations have to act according to laws for the protection of the environment. The companies rules have to adapt to follow the new laws. Some chemical substances are now forbidden. Most of the people on YT think that LV wanted to cheat and make more money. Exactly the contrary was the case. It's always difficult and expensive for a brand to change/adapt a production process because it involves research under time pressure. Chemical substances are not easy to be replaced by new ones. It's a huge challenge and expensive. Many people prefer to think the worst about LV. They don't trust the brand. It's sad.

I recently have been eyeing the coin card holder from the mens line. I ordered my first one in monogram eclipse and the slots are almost like glued together. I could not get my cards into the top 2 slots (4 slots in total on one side) regardless of how hard i tried. I felt like if i were to put more strength, i would risk damaging the lining inside. I ended up doing an exchange. Guess what, the second one came with the same exact defect. I then ordered my third one in red, and thank God they finally got things right this time. I think the monogram eclipse batch is just overall having quality issues. I know some people say with use you can loosen the slots up bit by bit. But i don't want to live in that constant fear of potentially damaging the item when I am paying premium

I totally agree. I have a couple of older pieces; had more, but sold as my tastes changed. Now I regret selling because the newer pieces are so flimsy. And the thanks we get for so many new flimsy pieces are higher prices. I even heard that the higher prices were, in part, to discourage people from using LV as their launching point into luxury goods. I have been a customer for years, but the best part of my experience there is not the handbags and other goods, it’s seeing my SA who I’ve developed a relationship with. Now I just text her to ask about family and tell her it’s not about any products.
Now, IF I shop with LV, it’s strictly to look at the leather pieces and it’s online shopping.
    Sad, but true.

I completely agree with you! My biggest issue lately is hardware. I was so disappointed when I received my world tour speedy. The D rings on the bag are made of what feels like plastic. You pay all this extra money and for an even cheaper product. Then on other bags even if the hardware is solid it doesn’t match! My pochette Métis strap has 3 different colors of gold. Not to mention the few bags I’ve had to exchange. Like my leather empreinte pochette Métis that the impressions just disappeared in a month. Of course the my Palm Springs had the glazing problem the list does on. It’s so upsetting because I love the brand.
