My youngest is now 33 and teaching and coaching basketball himself. He attended an Ontario selection camp with Chris decades ago here in Ontario. My wife and I came to Canada from England some 35 years ago, via 4 years living and teaching in Jamaica. I was a pretty decent athlete, had never played let alone coached basketball but had played and coached football (soccer) at a pretty decent level. I watched Chris coach and for the first time since leaving England I saw a team sport being coached the way I had been taught both as a player and in all my FA coaching courses. As I said Kevan is the youngest of four. His two older brothers learned to play basketball, hockey and box lacrosse and did pretty well in all of them. All 3 focused on what were basically the North American sports and did pretty well in whatever they attempted...my oldest played pro lacrosse in the NLL But what I saw in their practices was a focus on individual skill development followed by scrimmages and games. The skills were pretty well devoid of any connection to the game itself, and often in hockey practices one player did a drill - rarely with any coaching comments -while the rest of the players just stood there. That is why I was excited by what I saw Chris doing. At that time I saw so many coaches come out on the ice for a practice and have their players sit on the ice while they spoke. What an incredible waste of valuable ice time. I never saw one wasted minute in a Chris Oliver practice.

I like the way he corrects their mistakes. Reminds me of Rick Barnes! Wish I would have had a coach like that. But, his flex offense helped lol

      Two things:
1 - In the full video, Coach Oliver talks about this. He says he will correct a little more in the beginning of the season to produce positive habits. Then he loosens up as the season progresses. Just one of many approaches that can work.
2 - It’s a coaching video where he’s trying to show coaches what he looks for and corrects.
