    Some folks have disconnected the van, recovered the car to the hard sand, and then winched the van down to the hard packed sand to complete the recovery. Well done guys. Great content. Cheers, dd.

      Cheers diesel! I'm sure that would have worked aswell, if not better, just gets hard to think sometimes in these situations with the tide coming up. We need you there as a coach maybe?! Thanks so much for watching! Hopefully see you next week!

      Maxtrax make a trailer skid specifically for situations like you found yourselves in. The trailer skid is strapped securely to your jockey wheel while you unhitch your caravan, get your vehicle out of the bog (will be much easier without being connected to the caravan) and get it up on solid ground then use your winch to pull the caravan out with your jockey wheel on the skid. The skid will take up some precious storage space (as I found) but well worth having particularly when badly bogged and remote like you guys were.
      The other method I’ve seen used very successfully is doing something similar to what you guys had done with your Maxtrax but with your spare tyre. A spare tyre has much more mass than the Maxtrax and when buried deep enough and angled correctly, you’ll end up with an almost unmovable anchor point.
      I’m no expert by any means and I’ve never had to resort to them myself (yet!!) but I’ve researched the issue enough to believe that these options work 👍

      Cheers for the knowledge rich! Yes I've seen these things, they look great! They're just a bit out of our price range at the moment unfortunately, but if we had had one on hand our recovery would have gone a bit more like you stated!
      and yes the spare tyre could have worked lovely aswell, but the maxtrax worked great once we actually buried them correctly, and also a much much smaller hole to dig in 38c heat. There's more than 1 way to skin a cat!

      some people arnt stoopid enough to take a van on a beach, they know nothing about,, with the wrong vehicle, no lockers. too low. no idea..for the price of the van, ranger,,wrong choice,, an iveco daily 4x4 with a caravan on the back, would be more capable, cheaper. being a cantractor, for 23 yrs,,you do not,,want to tow a trailer,,anywhere.. there a hassle.. i bought a s/duty. 4.2tdi. raised 3'' for zero. 35,s. all gear in back, & sleep in there. cook, everything.. no warris mate.. theres only 2 jap 4x4rs to buy.. a toyota 80,. & a nissan gu, 4.2tdi. preferably the nissan.. better.. i also have a 75 ford f250 highboy.. 26'' to the sill,,std.. 5sp, 4 w disc. lockers. 35,s. old skool wins everytime. if,,we didnt have stoopid import laws,, we would have a choice, of the nissan titan, v8.. toyota tundra, v8, or ford f150 , v8.. yes there petrol..but cheaper in the long run.. services, re builds. ect.

    Thanks for the good video. You can also dig a spare wheel into the ground as an anchor for the winch, if you had have dug a bit of a trench for the strap also it would have been much better. With a trench on an angle for the winch rope the tracks would not have lifted, it would have been puling against the bank not having the strap pulling the tracks up.

    Lol good advertising for camp boss deflators, this is the second channel now showing faulty ones, sarah and keelan travels tested a brand new set in comparison to icheck ones and theirs were faulty brand new. I followed their advice and bought the icheck ones and while the markings werent perfectly accurate, i was able to stretch the springs inside a tiny bit and make them accurate, essentially calibrating them. They work perfectly now every time, within 0.2 psi of what i set them at.

    WOW that was a fun one!!! Great episode! You are the man Jacob! You could look at buying a sand anchor for just such occasions. Also, buy some mozzie coils and get them with the tin container. You can light them up and use them safely inside the van to drive insects out of the van. This will also stop them coming inside too. Sometimes I think you guys try to wind each other up. If this is the case then I think it's funny. But if not then I think it only adds stress to your relationship. • @lilandjake
      @lilandjake  10 місяців тому

  • @edbelt9155
    @edbelt9155 Рік тому +1

    Probably where you were going wrong is not digging a trench 4m or so from the hole back towards your truck for the rope to sit down in, so it meant the rope angle you had was pulling the Maxtrax up a bit meaning they don't work nearly as well as sinking the rope down into the sand and getting a better angle.
    Better option still would have been to bury a spare wheel as anchor and use Maxtrax under the wheels for floatation.

    Hey guys......great work on the episodes. Just wanted to share with you an observation I've made when using my Staun tire deflators. Their effectiveness and accuracy seems dependent on how firmly they're screwed on to the valve stem. Too tight and they don't cut out at the set pressure. Too loose and they cut out early. I find firm finger tight without forcing them to bind further is about right and they work every time. Campboss ones might be the same.

    • @lilandjake
      @lilandjake  Рік тому

      Cheers jarrod! Whatever u dig in for an anchor, dig a trench from the bottom of ur anchor to the 4x4. That way u don't lift ur anchor up, as u did, is stays where u dug it in, no lifting.
    Ur way only missing the trench for the rope. It would have worked first time.
