You gave Peter an orphan score of 7.

Higher the orphan factor more likely to tap out. 7 out of 10. I guess in the end maybe an 8. I never would have given him a 9 or 10. He was a likely tap out according to the OF. Treasure Troller proven correct.

berries are just 100 calories per lb. A lb of berries is TWO big double handls-full, at least. All they do is give you the trots. They offer Vitamin c and keep you from getting constipated, but their acquisition costs more calories than they give you

they all bitch about getting no face time on TV. if they COULD make a pontoon outrigger raft in one day, make a 0F degree effective shelter in one day (no sleeping bag, no heat-source needed) make a kiln/oven out of mud, make charcoal, refine clay from shoreline mud, make pottery, use debris as insulation, make a 5 piece, composite bow, fletch arrow shafts with duct tape, make fire-hardened spring poles for snaring, fry food on the shovel, or even kebab bits of food on wooden skewers, over LOW coals or coals covered with ashes, if they COULD keep a fire alive by burying it in ashes, if they COULD make a primitive A frame cover for their ashes pit and trench around it. theyd GET more face time. The show HAS to generate bs "coverage", like how it goes when somebody goes-home (after wussing out early) because the contestants dont know HOW to do anything novel/interesting to the viewers! If you GAVE them 3000 sq ft of netting, they would not know what to do with it.

I would not look good, either, for the first 2 weeks, whole I made all of the netting, the raft, the tent, the chum-line, the killn, the charcoal, the pottery, the bait box for the bear, the tree blind. but by day 30, I'd look 10x better than anyone. I know to take the 10,000 calories of rations and the salt. I know to mix In 2000 calories of diced, boiled then fried cambium (on the shovel, minus the handle, using fish oil, or oil extracted from the pemmican. I'd have enough food for a week of hard work. Plus 2 days of fasting on my normal diet and one day after running out of rations, in 10 days, I'll have made 2000 SQ ft of 4" mesh netting, or 1000 SQ ft of 2" mesh netting if all of the local fish are small

ever heard of a chum-line? it requires you to bring the tape, the 12x12 tarp and the cotton rope hammock, but those items are essential anyway. Make 1/4mile of string out of the hammock. every 20m, attach a wooden float and a small bait-bag, made of tarp and tape. Put fish pieces/insects inside of the bait bags. if it's warm enough, use one of the coverall-pontoons to hold you up while youp swim out with the anchor rock and the end of the chumline'. The little holes in the bags will leak out the smell/taste of the rotting bait, drawing minnows to the bait bags. Big fish will come for the minnows and will work their way into your baited net-weirs, or at least into your gillnet-seining area.

Interesting idea. Sounds like alot of work in cold water. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze.

@@TreasureTroller who says it's in cold water? They launch in mid Sept, it's still 50F degrees and water cools off slower than air. Also, you'll be on your pontoon outrigger raft, wearing the reflective tyvek bivy, over a pair of longjohns a shirt, one of the 3 pairs of tarp and tape pants., with debris between the layers. Of course you dont do this unless you have no local fish. You dont bug out if shtf unless you have no other choice.

it's just pathetic that not a damned one of them reads the channel comments or forums about any previous contestants. None of them will admit that they took 7-9 inferior items. I've unravled an amazon cotton rope hammock. I KNOW that I can make 200+ sq ft of 4" mesh netting per day, or 100+ sq ft of 2" mesh netting per day. When you move the seine in a sawing motion as you advance it, smaller fish that COULD sliep thru it are scared to try it. So The 4" mesh net, 6 ft wide, 100 ft long, can be made in 3 days. The two baited net weirs, 2" mesh, can be made in 3 days. So the big gilnet can become the seine and start feeding you very well in less than a week

99% of time I do. Just not alot happening right now. This week was more about a vision quest, I didn't need notes for that revelation.

the fish MUST migrate. to avoid being frozen solid in the shallow river. If you don't make a LOT of netting (ie, 2000 SQ ft of it) and the pontoon outrigger raft and average catching 20 lbs or more of fish per day for n nearly a month, the fish will be GONE and you will just starve. Same as in Mongolia, when they wussed-out in 60 days.

once it's been 40F for a few days, the ground can serve as a refrigerator, given that you have tape and tarp bags to keep the food clean. That buys you more time in which to make the drying racks, get the hardwood for smoking the fish. Dip the sliced fish in salt-brine before trying to smoke/cure it, The salt makes the fish dry out faster, repels flies from laying their eggs in the fish.

@@Ray-555 they let you take a 3 lb block of sea salt. You also take the rations of gorp and pemmican, the reflective XL size tyvek bivy, the reflective, heavy duty 12x12 tarp, the slingbow, a shovel with 8" of custom-added saw teeth, a modified Crunch mulittool,, the big roll of Gorilla tape, the 2 person cotton rope hammock. Google for season 11 Alone gear list.

they do what they do cause they simply cannot let people on the show who really DO know how to make it last 4-5 months. That would generate almost no more income for them and it would cost them a fortune. In order to keep putting the show on TV, they have to show a profit.

  • @user-ci2mn1oy3w

there's no such thing as a "poor fishing area In a lake, or on a shallow river when the fish MUST migrate to deep lakes, cause the rivers freeze-solid. Given enough netting, the pontoon outrigger raft, mixing cambium with the fish, and being able to store the fish,= the win. if you can use 100 lbs of fish parts and a stake and log bait box, 10m from a tree blind, you can arrow a bear. A bear, ready to hibernate is 25% body fat. 200 lb bear = 200,000 calories. you NEED that fat.

While Alone is not scripted, the producers DO control who gets on the show. They determine the mix of mentally strong and emotionally fragile contestants.
Nicole Apelian was on the show TWICE and tapped out both times with Multiple sclerosis attacks. Another guy tapped out due to chest pains and concern over his surgically repaired heart. The producers keep this per-existing conditions a secret until the show begins. A lot of info is edited out so that the producers can keep up the illusion of a tight horse race to keep the viewers hooked.
The show (as in entertainment) MUST end before spring or the contestants would never go home. While the hard core viewers would like to see more Jordan Jonas and Roland Welker caliber contestants, the producers need time to edit all of the raw footage and get their people out of the field. I wouldn't be surprised if the contestant contracts mention that if the show isn't decided by 'X' date, a coin flip will determine the winner.

no, they are not. if they had more fish than they could eat, they'd be seen trying to preserve-store it. It takes 3000 calories per day to just lay around you shelter, under such stresses and not lose weight. Live weight fish offer only 300 calories per lbs. Only half of a fish or animal's live weight is edible flesh. So you'd have to AVERAGE catching 10 lbs of fish per day, every day. and mix it with cambium, or they'd die of the trots. You can only choke down about half that much, so the best such a diet can do is cut your weight loss to 1/2 lb per day. If you stupidly fish with hook and line, standing out in the weather, bowhunt all day for small game, you'll be wasting another 1000 calories per day , which is why they all lose 1.3 lbs per day trying such things
