I definitely relate and feel the same way concerning Princess Monoke’s title. I know there’s plenty of movies where the titular character isn’t the main character, but considering how Princess Monoke herself is the most associated character with the film it really does come off as a surprise when you watch the film and see she isn’t the main lead. Not helping is the poster putting her front and center and further causing this delusion of Princess Monoke being the main character.
Heck, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t even think “The Prince of Egypt” is a fitting title for an animated adaptation of Moses. I hear that title and I don’t think Moses or Bible film, I just think it could be referring to any Egyptian prince outside of the story of Moses. I probably would’ve preferred alternate titles like “The Exodus” or even “Deliver Us”, the name of the opening song, as more appropriate titles.
I really enjoyed this episode! I have alot of love and nostalgia for non-Disney/Pixar animated movies. Especially from the 90s/early 00s. I wish more movies like these would be made these days.
Some of my favourites in no particular order:
Anastasia
Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron
The Iron Giant
How To Train Your Dragon
Your Name
Sinebad Legend of the Seven Seas
Princess Mononoke
I guess other studios like DreamWorks, Sony Pictures Animation, Blue Sky and Illumination will come later.
Next up non Disney Pixar CG films
@@RachelsReviews Ah, I get it. Saving the best for last?
@@RachelsReviewsI’m just crossing my fingers and hoping that on 4/5/2024, AniMat does Fragile Rock as an honourable mention in the finale of The History of the Muppets - Animation Lookback where at the end, he could announce “The History of Blue Sky Studios - Animation Lookback” (Part 1 on 6/28/2024: Ice Age, Robots and Horton Hears a Who and maybe even the Ice Age sequels so that he could get them done and over with considering how mediocre he finds them, especially Collision Course and Adventures of Buck-Wild to the point of giving them 3/10s.
Part 2 on 8/30/2024: Rio 1 & 2, Epic and The Peanuts Movie. Part 3 on 10/25/2024: Ferdinand, Spies in Disguise and Nimona as the Honourable mention. Who knows? Maybe next time, next year, he’ll do Animation Lookback on the 40-50 movies of DisneyToon Studios in only a few parts considering how little he’ll say about them… then maybe around the mid-late 21st Century if they still keep going on, AniMat can do updates on Animation Lookbacks on Pixar, DreamWorks Animation with Amblimation’s films as the honourable mentions, Walt Disney Animation Studios since the 2020s)
@@RachelsReviews I noticed that there is one unavailable video on the AniMat Top 50 playlist. What's up with that?
That was just a deleted video that I have to remove
