They are really awesome with a set of tracks. We just took a short weekend getaway and road from just outside Leadville Colorado up to the backside of Breckenridge mountain. It was a blast. With a 11 and 4 yr old this make sense for our family now. Hopefully, we get back into snowmobiles when the little one gets a little older.
Bought one today. The dark orange color. So nice. If you hated anything about Polaris. Cheap build quality. Crappy transmission. Forget about that. This is top notch. I own a 2024 ranger xp Texas edition and it isn’t close to this nice.
Worse with a huge heavy CVT. The Polaris General and RZRs usually aren't even getting 15mpg depending on how you drive. And they're smaller & lighter than these by a fair margin. A Ford Ranger will probably get close to 10mpg more than a Polaris Xpedition, assuming stock tires, no mods, and similar driving conditions.
Prices of these vehicles at this level don't even make sense. Wranglers or Tacomas can be outfitted for less money and legally ride all the rodes to get to the trails. I'd would bet that the industry doesn't sell the numbers to justify machines at this price point. Very nice machine, but it would never be an option for 99%.
I gotta be honest. I got a decent amount of money, likely more than the average demographic buying these things and at this price tag that’s a hard pill to swallow, i just don’t see it. That’s like $40k-$45k USD… WTF?? I just bought a 2019 4Runner SR5 4x4 for $35k. Sure, maybe not as good for super tight trails but better in every other metric for $10k less.
I saw one in Carson city and on the showroom floor it looks like it should have a license plate. Just make a street legal jeep killer. 4x4s are big and heavy now. Polaris could dominate the micro 4x4 market if they made it street legal. Think Suzuki samurai. Speaking of samurai…. Hey Suzuki…bring back the samurai and show Polaris how to make a 1900 pound street legal 4x4.
It's a SUV ATV! Love it. The original (E)Xpedition around Y2K or so was a like 425 4-Stroke utility ATV with a 5-Speed AutoClutch (a Sportsman 400 5-Speed really) that was constantly breaking down (& eventually recalled I THINK) for the unit having some weird ass "black box" issue relating to it's Reverse Gear operation or the likes because Designing Manual Transmissions was apparently way over Polaris' Pay Grade. LOL. SO BIT of an odd choice in naming this the Xpedition. Also kinda sounds like it's the Edition for Reformed Convicted PDF Files. *Other than all those super fun facts; Yeah that things dope!*
Insane! Im blown away not only by the price but the interior space. Also, I think it would be useful to know how much HP and torque and cylinders it has when mentioning the motor. At least for those of us who don't keep up with the world of ATVs, SxS and UTVs etc. Awesome machine!
Good review! Like a lot of people I struggle with the price. If my income was better...way better, I'd probably get one. I'm only 30 min away from being at 9,000 feet (that's 2743 meters for you Canadians 😂) with over 1200 miles of trails and I can picture myself leaving my place and heading out to the trail with this. This would definitely be faster and probably more fun on the trails than a Jeep. I am curious how many miles people are getting out of their Generals, Rangers etc because I wonder how many miles you could get XPEDITION ADV 5 before needing some serious mechanical work. In my mind something with that price tag should be able to go a lot of miles.
very cool but 60k? not a chance, this worlds out of control, i bought a 2023 ranger and even that was outrageously priced for what u get…. Polaris build quality is brutal for 20 plus grand canadian and placement of belt/batt are in very bad locations, had to put springs in brake calliper to hold pressure because so sloppy from factory they were making a clicking noise so bad u could hardly ride the thing…. anything cool u have to buy separate for some reason even didn’t come with review mirror… all and all i love sxs but would never waste my money on Polaris anything in the future
You can get a Ford Ranger Or Chevy Colorado with a camper top for cheaper than this. And those will be more comfortable, highway legal, quieter, get better mileage, and last 10-15x as many miles. This thing has a foot longer wheelbase than a Cherokee Classic (so harder to turn around on tight trails, more likely to high center or clip rocks underneath) on a narrow 64" width so it'll be sideways tippy on many off camber trails. Curb weight is 3000lbs or more too, same as a Cherokee Classic. So you're not even getting better handling by being lighter than a truck. The *basic* trim without any HVAC, windows, or a windshield is still at like $35k starting price! I'm really struggling to imagine who this is for, except people with way more money than common sense. Rich old ranchers who'll just write it off as an "ag equipment" tax deduction maybe? At this point, you're using a truck to ....trailer this slightly smaller truck for riding. We were looking at something more comfortable for camping & riding when it's sub-freezing, and realized a $9k used lower mileage F-150 was going to be better than this in every way. Toss in the Pro R and Maverick R which are insanely huge and powerful vehicles too big for technical trails, and it's pretty clear Polaris and Can-Am are just chasing numbers and fools.
Hope this air conditioner does better than the ranger northstar because mine doesent cut it in Oklahoma anything past 95 it gets uncomfortable.....high humidity also does it no favors
For the price, you best be able to fit adults in the back comfortably. Yeah it’s cool that it’s all closed in, but prices on sxs is getting out of control. This isn’t for everyone but 60k for a utv is out of control. Will it get places most suvs can’t, prob. Just buy a 4Runner 😂
I live in Canada where we have to load the unit onto a trailer to get any where. If we could drive from my home throughout the city I would without hesitation to buy one. If DOT would identify Polaris expedition as vehicle sales would increase.
Have a 2021 Ranger Northstar ultimate, 4K and no issues, for the price of this unit , side mirrors, rear bumper should all be standard, and I hear they are very loud inside, still a great looking unit and some people will buy them

I don't understand this at all at the 59k cdn price tag i just asked local about when i am gonna also need a 60k truck and 10k trailer to get this somewhere. Even as a work horse the Jeep beats it on specs for towing. Love offroading, and dont think I will ever understand this at this price point and limitations
I think this thing is super cool. For me, there are a lot more ATV trails to check out than Jeep trails. I would love to hit the trails and not have to deal with dust, plus AC. just amazing vehicle. Plus lets face it, your '96 wrangler is going to go about 4 mph on rough trails. This thing will probably do 30 comfortably.
Have you heard about the tortoise and the hare. Which one crossed the finish line first. I would probably find you wrapped around a tree after you took a corner to hard. I enjoy the trails just fine in my lifted Suzuki carry mini truck. It's not much of a adventure if it's over in a 1/4 of the time.
@@nd3498 this is a completely different animal than a Suzuki and would be much more comfortable on rough trails and would go places you would dream of going
Sadly this is the result of us accepting UTVs for $20-30k. Problem for me is that I would just buy a jeep wrangler which is just slightly larger but much more capable and street legal. We are hitting limits and companies are starting to get the message.
I'm really curious to see if this can find a market. It's basically what a modern SUV would be if it didn't need to adhere to the regulations to make it road legal (e.g. no bumper so 90° approach and departure angles), and I wonder whether there are enough people who want it when you still need a truck to tow it to a trailhead.
First off - not everyone lives where you need a truck to haul this thing to a trail head. People own farms, acreages and live in small towns where they can leave right from their yard and head out riding. Also, Polaris will sell every one of these they build. No question. This is a serious step up from a base Ranger and those who can afford this WILL have one. Nothing to be curious about - this will be a success for Polaris.
@@pajamatime5750 What's different about this compared to previous utility SxS vehicles is that it's expensive AND aiming to be practical. With a Ranger, you could argue that it may not be as luxurious or comfortable as a truck but at least it was somewhat more capable and considerably cheaper. Now with this xpedition, buyers can legitimately cross-shop between this and an off-road focused SUV since they are similarly priced, and when you compare it with a Jeep or a mid-sized truck, it's a tough sell. Sure the xpedition will be more capable off-road, but I don't see anyone who is considering buying a Jeep or a mid-sized truck being convinced to buy an xpedition instead. The only buyers of this are going to be people moving up from a Ranger. It's not going to expand the SxS market. It's just going to make more profit for Polaris by selling more expensive vehicles to the same buyers.
@@pajamatime5750 Easy to sell everyone you make if you only make 18 of them. That's not exactly a market. We need to know the production numbers and sales to know anything.
Wonder if there is a signal light kit for the places atvs are legal to drive on public roads-this IS perfect for the acreage owner / outdoorsman / overlanding!!!
I know this isn't the place for this debate, but if it is a factory enclosed cab i don't think the law should force you to wear a helmet, unfortunately i don't have $70k to drop on one of these babies but i would take it to court to get the law changed, also also if you ad blinkers then it becomes a road legal vehicle with "limitations"
It's a great question. I think adding a turbo or dynamix to this model would put the price out of the stratosphere. This unit is already 60 grand in Canada, so what's the dynamix turbo, like 70? It's insane.
Since I bought my first Polaris people said oh I'd rather have a Jeep and I replied you can't have this much fun in a jeep.... but at this price point I'd rather have a Jeep
No lie, expensive or not, if they dropped the turbo motor in that a d gave it dynamix I'd sell my proxp4 ASAP and buy one of those in a heartbeat. I'd love to have all those features but I don't wanna give up my HP.
Needs a HEPA filter in the HVAC,,, And a Roof Top Tent.. and at this price.. should have a 6x6 option at this level.. 😊 …with tax a new Can Am 6x6 full cab is around 48K out the door here in TN.. which will get you a damn nice USED anything..
I picked mine up a few weeks ago, I got the army green 4dr xp, Northstar. Pricy but worth it to get out and ride with the family, my wife medically can't take the heat, so I needed something with ac and with 2 boys, this was the perfect ride. Boy does it ride smooth, only thing is the noise. I need to dynomat the rear under the seat and cab.
Noise was definitely something i figured would be a problem with the enclosed bed being directly above the engine and driveline. I bet if you dynamat it you'll get ride of a ton of that sound. As much as polaris is charging i kind of wish they'd of done that from factory. I just got a new 2024 rzr xp myself and i love it but its way louder than my old rzr.
Great Rig and review
Thank you!
I deliver these every week all over the country, they’re nice, but not nice enough for the price imho….
You know what they say about old jeeps. Break your back, not your budget.
Sadly this is the result of us accepting UTVs for $20-30k. Problem for me is that I would just buy a jeep wrangler which is just slightly larger but much more capable and street legal. We are hitting limits and companies are starting to get the message.
Just buy a jeep ....
The profits made on these is criminal
I wish you could get a snorkel kit for it because down south we do a lot of trail and mud riding
Can you start weighing them? Live weight.
In Michigan it can be converted to highway legal.
The only reason I'd think about buying one is if it were completely DOT certified and highway legal
Wonder if there is a signal light kit for the places atvs are legal to drive on public roads-this IS perfect for the acreage owner / outdoorsman / overlanding!!!
U can make them street legal but not Highway/freeway legal
Trying to decide between this and the ranger 1500, what are your thoughts?
Ooooh, big question. Depends on intended use. Also, a pretty huge bump in price from this to a 6-passenger 1500. Gotta really know what you want...
What model of Polaris or any brand for that matter has EVER gone done in price?
Built at the old Yugo factory 😊
Damn, I imagine the pain in the rear end thats to work on that motor with a fixed bed!
That's awesome. Best UTV made at this point in time for what it does.
Kinda in its own category really, isn't it.
What's it do?
I want this with a turbo and 72” wide on 32s.
That might be next year model 😃
Polaris should start building pick up trucks, seems like the logical next step.. one stop shopping!
I was kinda wondering if that might be a future project 🤔
A rally car would be better!
Do you see polaris doing turbo on this model down the road ? Or don’t see them doing that ? Strictly rzr models with turbo.
It's a great question. I think adding a turbo or dynamix to this model would put the price out of the stratosphere. This unit is already 60 grand in Canada, so what's the dynamix turbo, like 70? It's insane.
ive been looking into getting one. but the base price of $30k+ is ehh. thinking about getting a base ranger for 15k or the new 1500
56-60k and you need to upgrade the hell out of it, there's a problem.💯%
Might make an awesome winter 4x4... maybe throw some trax on it and away you go.
Perfect for MB winters hahaha
It would be an awesome winter SXS.
more power to you if you like it, but making a sxs that is practically an SUV defeats the purpose of a sxs in my opinion.
Suzuki Samari is much less than $56k
Now that would be a shootout 😂
Since I bought my first Polaris people said oh I'd rather have a Jeep and I replied you can't have this much fun in a jeep.... but at this price point I'd rather have a Jeep
back when they cost 15 to 20k which is worth it for a sxs
I wish your camera had stabilization. Otherwise great review.
Side by sides are just pickup trucks at this point. Next year they will be the same size.
can't wait to see one of these on 46" bkts absolutely buried in mud.
Does it have blinkers and a horn?
No lie, expensive or not, if they dropped the turbo motor in that a d gave it dynamix I'd sell my proxp4 ASAP and buy one of those in a heartbeat. I'd love to have all those features but I don't wanna give up my HP.
It should have both those things in it.
Needs a HEPA filter in the HVAC,,, And a Roof Top Tent.. and at this price.. should have a 6x6 option at this level.. 😊
…with tax a new Can Am 6x6 full cab is around 48K out the door here in TN.. which will get you a damn nice USED anything..
Absolutely. Should have the 2.0 liter and DYNAMIX for that price too.
dude that's a whole ass car
The 1% win again!
Pretty sure my 2012 Ranger Crew won't be going anywhere for the next 25 years.
That's awesome! Great to get feedback from an owner!!
Does it leak water yet?, i work at a dealership and I've noticed most of them leak through the roof, even with barely getting the roof wet
They improved a ton of stuff but noise definitely not one of them 😂😂
A fool and his money are soon parted
@@bryce8174yep, it does by the seat belts and it was a light rain. I haven't looked into it yet.
A brand-new Gen 1 Ford Raptor crew cab was 41,995 with the 6.2-liter v8 option… that’s just insane lol
For the price difference i would go with the can am defender limited
I would buy 4 Yamaha Raptors or two RZR XP 1000's. 🤷♂
@dirttraxtv or just buy a 1st gen single cab Tacoma, and have a big budget to build it all out. It's about the same simple as that polaris
I really want to buy a vehicle like this to go with my son.
But these prices are pushing a lot of people out of this experience.
I wish this was road legal, I’d love to daily this thing!
Do a comparison with new Ford Explorer. I think their in the same class. 😂
It needs some type of separation between cargo area and the cab ! Anyone that’s rolled any vehicle knows your cargo is what will kill you !
I understand that. SUVs don't have that separation though either.
Is it actually quite inside though?
Whats the whole belt driven vs chain driven deal i hear people talk about?
