FFXIV is a unique MMORPG since it allows for a myriad of different controller types: Keyboard and Mouse, Keypad and Controller. There's no wrong controller and no wrong way to enjoy the game with your peripheral of choice. Each controller type offers a unique experience that feels different in Final Fantasy XIV - yet plays all the same. This highly requested guide offers insight into how I use the official Hori TACTICAL ASSAULT COMMANDER F14 FINAL FANTASY XIV EDITION and mouse in game and how you can setup for success in FF14! This keypad was designed with Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi P) and his own experiences with the Logitech G13 in mind. Other alternatives are the Razer Tartarus, Razer Orbweaver, Red Dragon keypad and Logitech G13.

Saw the pre-orders for the black version of the hori controller and found this guide whilst trying to find a review of the original. Whilst not specifically a review this video certainly helped give me an idea of what it is like to use one of these and the versatility of it, such as the giga brain move of setting up clicking the thumbstick to sprint! Got my pre-order in and this guide tucked away ready for me to go over again once it arrives. Great guide, thanks!

@@El-uq4lu you can click the stick and Joystick directions are bound to WASD by default. Both click and direction inputs can be rebound.

This was actually a very helpful guide! I'm getting ready to order the Razer Tartarus V2 to try it out (my first gaming keypad), and this video is definitely helpful in giving me ideas on how to set it up! This was a very good guide! I was just curious about something though, I have a Razer Tartarus V2 and I am having trouble accessing all 4 rows of keys! Other than that its a solid product. How do you go about using all 4 rows of your gamepad?

Myself instead of assign 'Shift' key as a modifier on the Hori Keypad it self. Smart move would to setup one of the two side buttons on the mouse as the 'Shift' modifier.
That way you can use the 4 button's on the very left side of the Hori Keypad for total of 8 different things. Use those 4 buttons for things like tab target and other stuff like that you use the most.
Then you could use those same 4 buttons on the Hori Keypad with the 'Shift' modifier on the mouse for things like map, teleport, mount.
I've been using the Razor one. I dig it. I wanted to buy the FFXIV keypad
i took a long break from ffxiv. I am considering to come back but I got a new PC and planning to get this similar keypad, tarus. I am going to re watch your video when setting my hotbars game lol
I'm finally getting around to setting up my keypad and so far this has been a great tutorial! My only question has to do with the TAC software you are using to map out the keypad inputs... I'm trying to download that software but whenever I try to run the install .exe it doesnt do anything T^T Any knowledge or help you can provide on this??
The analog doesn’t seem comfortable hitting one direction for very long. I like that it has 5 keys out side the ones used for modifiers, but I’m torn between just getting a Tartarus and taking the key count loss for the better analog placement.

Mine came in and actually feels pretty good after getting used to it. i have pretty small hands and use it along side my g600

I'm a controller player of XIV for life.
Instead of having so many abilities spread around the keyboard and mouse buttons etc, i have everything in the palm of my hands :)
Just requires muscle memory to remember what hotbar set some skills are. But the way i have put things, the rotations and use of potions, buffs and such flows so really smoothly :)
Plus I cannot for the life of me understand how people find Legacy Camera mode difficult to use. I've tried the Normal mode and it's impossible for me to get used to hehe
I love that! I mentioned it before, but I was controller only in ARR and I still love it. FFXIV is great for being the MMO to show that controllers can be top tier in this setting if you offer players the ability to tinker and play.

@@GOBZ_01 i have played on controller since 1.0 and I've mained BLM since they released the Jobs in 1.19-1.21 patches hehe.
I tried moving 2 abilities around and it completely fucked up my rotation and broke my focus xD
I do make it so every job has buffs and certain abilities in the same places. Like Surecast/arms lenght on R2+L2 and then Dpad Right
There's so much information in this tutorial that I'll have to watch it at least three times in order to get it all down. And I don't even have a keypad. 🤣
I was thinking about thr modifiers, i dont want to hold them down to access other hot bars, is it possible to switch from one set of hotbars to another by toggling rather than holding?

agreed, I noticed that too, looks like it has better lighting, better Depth of Field and better AntiAliasing
It's really odd. When I look it up on google, there's almost nothing when it comes to keypads and setting them up. I got the second wave of the f14 pads and as someone who primarily played on controller, this is certainly an adjustment. Any advice to someone who has never used one before?

Great video thanks so much for taking the time to enlighten us. I got everything working so far on my G13 except for the joystick. The joystick is moving the cursor like the mouse does, I have changed the key binds on the G13 software to W, Q, E and S but it still moves the cursor instead of my character... Any ideas?
how did you get your G13 to be recognized in FFXIV? I can't get mine to do anything but try to type
@@coloradomountainman9959 I know this is several thousand years too late, and you have probably resolved it already. But for anyone else, there is a setting you will need to change in-game to prevent key presses going straight to the chatbox when a gamepad is detected. I forget the exact heading it is under, but it is a default behaviour (intended to make controller players more comfortable if they have a keyboard for chatting whilst playing).

You absolutely can! The best part of these kind of devices is that you can essentially map anything to any button.
Great video. I just bought one from Ebay. One issue though, my backlight doesn't show through the keys to the numbers. Is this normal?
There should be a toggle setting in the software!
@@GOBZ_01 I turned the toggle on but the light just illuminates around the key. I can't see the numbers on top is what I meant.
@@GOBZ_01 After looking at it in the dark,I think it might be more important to see WHERE the keys are instead of WHAT they are.

I have the Kinesis Advantage 2 keyboard and an Evoluent Vertical Mouse mouse, along with a Hori Tactical Assault Commander.
The PlayStation 5 reads both my Kinesis Advantage 2 and Evoluent Vertical Mouse mouse as a "mouse". It works fine if it was just these 2 devices and functions as a keyboard and mouse even though they are both registered as "mouse".
When you introduce the Hori Tactical Assault Commander, it reads in as a "keyboard" while making my Kinesis Advantage 2 keyboard compete for the "mouse" peripheral label with my Evoluent Verical Mouse mouse.
How can I get my PlayStation 5 to work with the Kinesis Advantage 2, Evoluent Vertical Mouse, and Hori Tactical Assault Commander.
Does the joystick work with lost ark?
Will it work on WoW?

Why can't I find this thing for sale anywhere? I play Bard on M&K but I'm a clicker and it' snot optimal at all, but the QERTY12345 marco stuff hurts my hands. The Hori ff14 pad would literally be perfect for me, but it's non existent and all the other pads have such mixed reviews. Awesome video btw.
Honestly i had to buy it off amazon for 230 since it is not for sale anywhere at all. it is currently for sale in uk but cannot ship to USA

@@Kerwell i ended up returning it since it is quite uncomfortable for my wrist. tried the g13 and that was amazing with the joystick but the wrist was hurting pretty badly after like 8 hrs of gameplay. am trying maybe the tartarus v2 and hopefully that works.
@@lakiki2518 interesting. I ordered one from hori but doesn’t come out till October. Was thinking about the Tartarus too, but not sure if I want to drop the key count on the ff tac for a better joystick position or a more truer to g13 joystick and have 5 per row not counting the modifier keys as opposed to the 4 per row Tartarus has. I’m pretty ticking torn
I am very curious. I’m heavily tattooed, a lot of prison ink and some paint jobs. I’ve never seen tattoos similar to yours unless they were cover ups which I don’t think yours are. Just curious bro if you’re willing to answer, if not, it’s all good. Anyway, content is great, appreciate it brother.
KB is just simply too slow to move around during raids. I personlly use the mouse for movement and the KB for hotbar commands.
Trying to set this up on a PS5 is a bit…complicated lol
pixel perfect works with gamepad XD (dpad) way better then the arrow keys on kb (idk why it moves it by 1 pixel only with a gamepad dpad lol)

Do it once. Modify it later. Get called out on discord when you're in your HUD editor while main tanking a trial.
