    I have a Warrior Wakizashi and a 1917 Frontier Bowie and both are excellent, although I bought them many years ago when CS was still a name. I was surprised by recent reviews of CS products until I learned that the company was sold. Usually, in any business, selling a company means a huge decrease in product quality, because the new owners just want to suck as much money as they can from it and then sell it further. So they keep the high price tag, but move to cheaper materials and cheaper workforce to keep their profit margin high. It's sad, but this is how the world works unfortunately.

    Cold Steel hasn't been the same since Lynn Thompson sold the company. I stopped following it. They now sell knockoff knives of the original designs. Sad to see that happen to such a great company. Between the poor heat treatment causing the bends and breaks and not standing by the product, those are deal breakers for me. Hey Donnie, I found and saw the video where you threw this knife and the tip bent... Years ago, I threw my CS Scimitar that also has AUS8A steel, at about the same distance into about the same kind of tree and the tip bent in a similar fashion! I just bent it back and touched it up so that it was as close to original as possible and continued to carry it...
    I haven't had to deal with GSM's customer service and by the looks of it, I probably won't even consider it. I have a few CS knives that I certainly cannot complain about as they do the job very well and have for a long time. But, I did recently pickup one of the Master Hunters in 3V and am not sure what I think about it in that steel just yet! I didn't need it, I have other hunting knives for processing bear and deer but I wanted to try out one of these new powdered steel blades.
    I think that AUS8A steel is either going to be soft or brittle at the tip and will either bend or snap, but that's just my opinion and I don't have anything but my opinion to offer in that regard. My experience with knives is with hunting knives, pocket knives and knives to carry for general field use in the woods. I appreciate your thoughts and comments on CS knives, but I'm not ready to boycott CS because of the issue with AUS8A knife steel bending at the thin tip... My Scimitar continues to perform as its designed to and I still carry it although I now have other knives that I carry in its place as well. God Bless my friend, Stay Frosty in these troubling times...

The heat treat also didnt differ from one part to another. The dont fully heat treat a blade. Its an edge treatment like theyve done for hundreds of years. The point is to reduce chipping. Thats why they use a convex edge. Also why they provide the service to make them very sharp but dont recommend it because that might happen. He stabbed into a steel barrel with a "very sharp" edge. What happened was exactly what they said would happen. Next time do your homework.

      As far as not knowing what I'm talking about...well, I certainly don't possess your blade community bonafides, but I have put dozens and dozens of different kinds of blades through 400+ different targets (conventional and unconventional) and have a good idea of what a knife can and cant do
      . As far as doing my homework, here's a link to CA explaining his communication with KHHI and them explaining they leave the tip soft, so it will bend instead of snapping off. (Skip to 9:00 min. in, video link below).While I can't imagine why someone would want to own a knife with that kind of heat treatment, they do say it's deliberate. So back to my original point: is leaving the tip deliberately soft good when KHHI does it, but bad if CS does it?

      @DonnieBAllDay  4 місяці тому +1

      @@chattanoogachop5154 Spring steel has always been, bend don't break, heat treated. Always. The longer they get, the more they're made that way. The Romans and the Brits were masters at it. On battle fields the blades were made to come in contact with both wood and metal armor/shields. A bent blade in combat could easily be straightened, but there was no fixing a broken blade, hence the Viking Seax. A knife design created from a broken sword. These heat treatment practices have been used for thousands of years and are still used today. KHHI wasn't a Bowie making knife maker. For years the only blades made in Nepal were the kukri. They employed the same heat treatments as they have since the beginning of steel weaponry. Now they make different kinds of weapons. Many that were never made with the kind of differential heat treats they use. So the weapons are new, but the methodology remains the same. A knife that can be field repaired. This is why you won't measure any long blades at a 62 HRC. Cold Steel offer 61/62 HRC. They're supposed to snap before they'd bend. Simple science. Harder means brittle, softer means flexible. So when they sell a knife that was heat treated to 61 HRC, it shouldn't be 58 after the bevels are ground in. That means they screwed up. They carelessly allowed the tip to over heat and ruin the HRC. But that's not why I'M/ME/MYSELF am boycotting them. Its because they blatantly lied. The rep said it was IMPOSSIBLE to be transferred to a supervisor, then confessed that the supervisor was standing next to her. She claimed that the knife had to be purchased through a third party, which it wasn't. I paid with a card, she said it was IMPOSSIBLE to track my order. None of this happened with KHHI or ANY other company I've ever dealt with.
