That's a great video Alec and Peter is such a great teacher - I'll be giving this a go at the weekend. Thanks for doing these, they are very helpful and interesting.
Fantastic Alec. There's been a bit of chat about this method on social media and I'm itching to give it a go. I'm out on Menteith next week and keen to try this along with the standard buzzer techniques (bung & straight lining)
Cheers Robert, it's something Peter does on all his cork handles, it rubberised area to stop him wearing the Cork away, it the way he grips the handle with his thumb 👍🎣🐟
Cheers Martin, yes he uses different lines depending on how deep the fish are feeding, it was amazing to watch all day, sometimrs the video bits do do it justice but I think most people can see what's happening ok
Hi Alec Brilliant video you both put together. I must give this method a concerted try. I do have a question. When using the Blob did Peter use a sinking line first and then swap to a floating line? Thank you and please send my thanks to Peter for sharing his mothed with us all. Best regards David
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying Thanks for your reply. I must give it a good try looks intresting. First year back Fly fishing after a 7 year brake forgot how good it is!! Dave
As Peter said in the video, he brought this method from fishing it on small waters and doing well, then he was surprised how deadly it was when fishing large waters. It can be used on lines from floating to deep sink. 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying thanks for the reply Alec. I must say I usually either fish the blob withn2 buzzers or cormorants, or a small one on the dropper with a lure on the point, or under the bung. I will give this a try.
That's what Peter was saying, most people fish teams of flies with the blob but single blob will catch fish when they won't look at a team of flies when the fish have been pressured 👍🎣🐟
Paul, every day is different depending on how deep the fish are feeding, start by retrieving straight away then if no takes each cast let it sink 5 or 10 each cast until you find the fish depth, on the day of the video the count was 15, but obviously that changes in different locations 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying With your leader being so long and the blob unweighted will the fly still sink or will it get pulled under if you use like a fast glass line? 🎣🎣
Yes it will Paul, I was practicing Peters method on Saturday using a fast glass on a local fishery, I was catching on a count down of 10 with a slow controlled pull retrieve 👍🎣🐟
Hi again Alec Hope you are well. I have a question for you and Mr Peter Appleby. On the big waters you both use a sinking line with the Blob. What set up would you on small waters? I fish two lakes, one has an average depth of 10ft and the other from 5ft to 10ft. What would you suggest as a set up please? Thanks for you time. Tight lines. David
Hi David, a good set up for your lakes would be to use a fast intermediate 1.5 inches per second sink rate, use the count down method to find what depth the fish are feeding, this can obviously near the surface down to near the bottom , tight lines 👍🎣🐟
I see in the video he was using what I believe is an orange blob? Does it matter what colour blob you're using or is it the same for any colour blob? great video and very impressive technique. Loving the channel👍
Trevor he wasn't getting a tug as he explained in the video commentary it's a feeling of resistance before the fish takes the fly, he them immediately stops and hangs the fly then it takes it.. It was amazing to watch him do it over and over all day 🎣🐟
He was using a Greys depth seeker which is now discontinued, similar to the Airflow fast glass, but uses other sinking lines depending on the depth are feeding at during at different times of the year and venue of course 👍🎣🐟
Peter said the longer leader 15 to 20 ft helps the fly move better as the fish approach the fly and this causes the resistance as they flash around it. First seen this when one day he was hanging his blob just under the boat and a few fish were swirling around it, this made the blob dance all over, this is when he realised what he was feeling at distance as the fish approach 🎣🐟
Stop giving fish credit for having a memory they have none any single fly from a blob to a spider will catch fish . At the end of the day if there’s no fish H in the swim you won’t catch .

Cheers Jon, it is a devastating method on sipping trout 👍🎣🐟
Many thanks guys for the valuable information , great to watch .
Can I ask what line you use as a preference Peter.
He uses a fast glass or Di3 depending on the depth of water of course, leader is 6lb fulling mill world class 👍🎣🐟
Another belter, this series with Peter is unreal.
Could eggstacy patterns be used in place of the standard blob?
Cheers!
Definitely Chris, eggstacy can be a lot better than standard blob material because it's softer and the fish don't spit it out 👍🎣🐟

Interesting stuff. Does it work from the bank on small stillwaters? And with floating lines?

Is the blob weighted? Enjoyed the tactics.
It's an unweighted blob on a sink 3 line 👍🎣🐟

What is the best line to try this method on or will any line work
Normally from intermediate down to Di3 👍🎣🐟

Rods used ? and is leader tapered ?tippet type and diameter as lighter tippet mentioned.
Standard 7/8wt rod, no tapered leader, fluorocarbon as light as you can fish depending on venue 8lb to 5lb 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying Thanks Alec for good useful information.Appreciate the pointers.
Is it relevant if the pattern is weighted or in unweighted to help with the sensitivity of the method? Thanks again.
Hi Trevor, the blob needs to be unweighted, you will not feel the slight resistance on a weighted and then the sensitivity is gone 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying brilliant thanks Alec.
What did Peter mean about feeling the resistance? Was he getting tugs followed by the hang?
Trevor he wasn't getting a tug as he explained in the video commentary it's a feeling of resistance before the fish takes the fly, he them immediately stops and hangs the fly then it takes it..

Why 20 foot leader
Peter said the longer leader 15 to 20 ft helps the fly move better as the fish approach the fly and this causes the resistance as they flash around it.
