  • Since the announcement of the biggest military aid package to Ukraine yet, the argument about tank efficiency has been keeping everyone busy. To get to the bottom of the matter we went to check out Ukraine's own T-84U Oplot tanks, which are highly effective but rare. We got to find out how they've been helping the Ukrainian Armed Forces win multiple battles and save numerous lives-all thanks to their unique features.

Dang. Those guys are hardcore. Their tank gets hit and taken out of the fight, and they bail out and leave it in slow reverse so it can self-evacuate. Need more of them on the battlefield - both the tanks and the crews.

T-84 is a prety modern tank by standard. Ukraine went with the direction a lot of western countries took as well. Which is to make more capable and expensive tanks. Compared to the cheaper, but much more mass produced tanks the Soviet union went with and later Russia.

@@mikkel066h T84 is legit better or on par with most NATO tanks Ukraine will be getting. But the problem is that Ukraine only has 10 of them. They weren't produced in large numbers and most of them where sold to Thailand. Ukrainians mostly use old T64s and T72s. A lot of them without modern upgrades. So Leopard 2 and Abrams will be quite an improvement.

Two or three years ago "Red Effect" made a video about this tank.
Back then I commented Ukraine would become a country with a great arms industry if the war ended and corruption got curbed.
Some made fun of this, when the new invasion started, but I'm more positive about this now than ever.
However, I believe, to be able to compete, it'll not be Ukraine alone but a joint-venture with the Czechs and/or Slovaks.

It's too bad Ukraine wasn't able to produce more T-84 because all around it seems like a very solid tank. It took an innovative design in the T-80 and improved on it in many ways, being able to quickly reverse is a design feature that can easily mean the difference in being hit by an anti-tank missile or getting away. We see Russian tanks sluggishly plod backwards, often unable to escape if they are being targeted. I wish this crew and all other Ukrainian tankers safety and success defending their country. Oplots biggest advantage is it's reverse speed. The reverse of this tanks alows it to manuver much better than any other tank on the battlefield currently. This is the kind of tank I think Ukraine needs not Abrams or Leopard. This tank and others like it such as PT-91 or T-72M4CZ have many of the same advantages as western tanks but will be easier for the Ukrainian crews to operate as they are very similar to the T-64BVs and T-72s they are used to. Another advantage these tanks have is that they are lighter than western tanks so they will cope with the mud much better.

    • @chefchaudard3580
      @chefchaudard3580 Рік тому

Ukrainians use white "cossack" crosses on their tanks rather than yellow and blue colours probably for visibility reasons.
Many of them turn it into a Balkenkreuz, the German cross used during the two world wars, that inspired the iron cross used today by germany.
It is a way to differentiate them from the Russians with a fearfull symbol, as the germans beaten Russia in WWI.
A way to say to the russians "we are not your brothers, we are from the West"

Cossack crosses were used on various Zaporozhian Sich cossack flags since ~16th century. Emblem of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (est since 2006) is raspberry color Cossack cross with golden trident in the center. You can see it on plant painted tanks in official pixel camo. For quick on-field identification markings, more simple crosses are used (with white, yellow or blue paint).

The Leopard is lacking active defence systems though (as far as I know. The 2A7 is getting some stuff. The French Leclerc has some stuff. The Abrahams has some optional stuff.)
That auto-aiming at enemy laser rangefinders is amazing, but very easily countered. One simply does not laser at the enemy tank but the ground or objects next to it and thus renders any laser warning system useless, turning those systems into a liability if a crew relies on it.

T-90M is certainly the best protected T series tank but it still suffers from many design flaws. Also with firepower T-90M mostly uses 3BM46, and 3BM60, which are much better tank the 3BM42 rounds Ukraine uses but fall short of the Israeli made rounds fired from PT-91 or T-72M4CZ.

    • @Insert-Retarded-Reply-Here

@@mattseller148 I’m addressing the T-84 primarily, since although the upgraded Czech and polish T-72s are good, their base armor (especially for the turret) is unacceptably bad for modern standards as is the ERA coverage. Also, the new APFSDS for Czech tanks is NOT better than svinets 1. It penetrates less than 600mm of RHA at 2km, while the svinets 1 is capable of 750mm at 2km. And the take that the T-90M suffers from many design flaws in the armor is a little baffling. In fact I think it’s one of the most soundly designed armor layouts even compared to western tanks like the Abrams and challenger 2 and the like. The only problem in its protection is probably the tiny cutout in the upper plate for the drivers port, which is a problem shared with every T series tank and some western tanks too. And while the T-84 is faster, it’s is less reliable and has poorer fuel efficiency and thus reduced operational range

    • @mattseller148

@@Insert-Retarded-Reply-Here I did not say T-90Ms armor was badley designed, it is very good, I said the tank has design flaws. All tanks have design flaws, they are just part of making them. The big flaws with T-90M are that is thermals while good, are not on par with western designs and it has poor post penetration survivability like all T series tanks. T-90M is very well protected with only the most modern AT weapons like Javelin, Kornet-M, or Spike really standing a chance of killing it head on. 3BM59 and 3BM60 are better than the Israeli made 125mm rounds, in fact they are on par with M829A3, but many of the tanks seen in Ukraine have been using 3BM42 and 3BM46 Also the penetration estimates require a better look than just which is the bigger number.
