You already have a (arguably shrinking) choice of Amdroid phones, mostly mid-range that still pack a *3.5mm HP Jack!!* One of my prerequisites when I had to upgrade my phone last year was that it SHOULD have a 3.5 mm HP jack (paired with the fastest SoC I could get, I was also keen on trying Dimensity), so I ended up upgrading from my (then) 3.5yr old Z2 Plus (another compact/1-hand dream phone) to the X7 Max! Now I'm planning to buy some good pair of cans/iems in a year or two (HD58X, IE300, etc)
I’m a cochlear implant user, and I cannot wait for the support to connect to multiple Bluetooth devices rather than having to re sync to each device that I wish to use.
Good job auracast is still selected manually, rather than taking over like those traffic announcements. Using radio for radio again. When watching video (i.e. latency not needed), you can actually sync the video with the audio, but it is not done by default on most OSes and you might need a separate app.

My setup is a BTR5 2021 with iems (FD3) plugged in on balanced, so I can use USB w/ it for 24b/192khz, wireless with my PC using AptX LL and wireless with my phone with LDAC.
Notice: while your phone will likely get updated with support, very few headsets already sold will get support for LE Audio. Sony LinkBuds S are an example that have promised an update to add support. Even Sony's top end earbuds haven't been promised support.
And thats why I use wired whenever possible. Except for my airpods pro and my sony "big chungus" headphones, almost any other bluetooth headset I used had a lot of issues. But ever since I got my car that has apple carplay with a USB connection built in, I can't see myself going back to Bluetooth connection. it works like a charm, 0 lag and maximum audio quality. But this LE thing might finally turn the tide for me. Fingers crossed it works well enough.
but does it require specific hardware support on the transmitter and receiver side or it just a software thing that can be pushed with a firmware update?

Even tho this is good news, I want my headphone jack back! USB-C to AUX adapters are always crappy and break in a few months and those thta let you charge the whole while you use it are just bad, the audio just drops for seconds or needs to be unplugged and replugged for it to work again, this never would happen to a phone with a headphone jack. @@sushimshah2896 Oh, cash. Of course. I also buy stuff with 3,5 mm jack. Voting with my money. Sure, sometimes, the wires can be annoying, but never not even close to the point where I'd like to have something wireless.
Battery life has never been my main concern. Having the earbud case provide extra battery capacity helps with that. The abysmal performance over distance is my main problem. Then the latency. Then the garbage communication protocols that allow my car audio to automatically play a UA-cam video when I enter my car. And finally, the inability to reliably handle both incoming and outgoing audio without having the latter's quality drop to absolute crap. Bluetooth really is possibly the most garbage "standard" out there. There's a reason Apple just basically rewrote it from scratch to get the level of capability they wanted. Maybe these new revisions will clean up a ton of the dreck up in BT that's built up over the past 20 years, but I'm not holding my breath. And I'm even less confident in the ability of BT device manufacturers to actually implement whatever standard correctly and competently...ya know, in a standardized way.
Apple has done impressive stuff with their wireless audio, but they are also responsible for killing the audio jack port which provided the best quality over all wireless. Auracast will finally bring the universality of Bluetooth to mass usage and hopefully lead to an end to all the other phone brands trying to copy apples self-imposed restrictions in features. 5 years ago I wanted to share a file with my friend and suggested I Bluetooth it to his iphone. The idea that Apple would brick such an old feature that bridged 3 decades of devices sharing contacts and files baffled me. It's like not including an eraser on a #2 pencil because you didn't like the look of the eraser shavings.
@@net28573 not only you can't transfer files to an an iPhone over Bluetooth, if you plug an iPhone into a Windows device, you can ONLY read but not write. I absolutely hate this Apple mentality of giving the middle finger to everything non-Apple. I've never owned any Apple device and wouldn't be caught dead with one.
My car's Bluetooth adapter uses LDAC, and it sounds SO much better than regular SBC Bluetooth audio. It literally sounds indistinguishable from an AUX cable (yes, my phone has a headphone jack).
Thats true but not exactly because LDAC is perfect.. it has more to do with the fact that 3.5mm output is mostly resampling anything you play to 48kHz 16bit. Anyway I agree LDAC is still the best choice for the car.
@@absolutium It actually sounds better than a direct AUX connection to my phone in my car. Must be just that my phone's DAC isn't as good as the DAC in the Bluetooth adapter or something.
I definitely use BT for exercise music, so the battery issue is good news. For everything else...You know what doesn't have lag or battery issues? My HD600s.
and you forgot that your phone and headphones must support this high-quality codec. that's why something like Fiio btr5 or 7 is a better solution when you connect it with a phone cable
As far as smartphone compatibility, Every device that supports Bluetooth 4.0/BLE will handle Bluetooth LE. That's iPhone 4 onward, And every Android phone that came with Android 4.3 onward. It will then be down to software support, For Android that will be 13. Not sure if/when from Apple camp..
BT headset audio's biggest issue isn't quality or battery life, it's the ease of switching between inputs. Just the simple use case being use one headset on my home PC, switch to my phone whilst traveling to work, when I'm at work switching to the work PC, then during lunch break watching stuff on my tablet, switching back to the work PC, back to the phone for the travel home and then back to my home PC when I get there. Cabled experience is so much better, BT headsets having to re-pair every-time you switch is a pain in the proverbial... you know.
My Bose headphones connects to two devices at once and switches between audio sources whenever one wants to stream. It's pretty seamless. LE Audio will allow seamless switching too.
3:19 How is it possible that that feature comes to phones only in the 2021? We are building hotospots with hundreds of people connected to it and the Bluetooth protocol can't connect even two people. But hopefully it will now be possible (after you buy a new android phone 🤔)
But, does it fix the biggest problem: gaming while talking on discord (aka using the mic while listening to something other than the call with better quality)?
Those videos of LTT you pop in should have a link either in the description or in the little info thing in the corner I can pop out. It's too much effort to go back to read the name of the video and search it up in a new tab and hopefully find it. Just link it directly and I'll be more inclined to check it out.
My biggest issue with Bluetooth is 2 way communication makes all sound quality awful as it just can’t cope with all the data and uses a really old codec for it
So will I need a new phone and bluetooth headphones to take advantage of this or will this work on older devices as well? Is it as simple as a software update or will this mean nothing until a few years down the line when everything will finally support this?
This will most likely mean buying new devices that support this technology. So the phone and the Bluetooth headphones will need to have Bluetooth LE Audio to take advantage of this.
it's part of a new revision I think (I might be wrong). So rest assured that you'd probably need to upgrade to a new phone (unless it's a recent one with a flagship-ish SoC) & buy a new pair of cans/iems as well! I personally couldn't care less as I have a 3.5 mm HP jack in my phone!
Yeah thanks industry leaders, but we've already had a variety of codecs for A2DP Profile, but what about the crappy default codec of HF Profile with mono audio and low bitrate mic? Isn't it the time for an upgrade for that too? That would be SOMETHING for gaming.
Welcoming the improvements for sure, but lossy audio does not need to be enforced in absolutely all circumstances. I was really hoping to hear there was also a toggeable lossless option :( This would be great for instance to transmit audio from a desktop computer (or wall-plugged laptop) to a home audio receiver or powered bluetooth speakers. In these use cases no need for lowest power consumption, yet ultimate lossless quality absolutely desirable
You should have started with the "fixed out of sync audio" bit. To me thats the most important piece. It's the reason why I still refuse to use bluetooth earphones.
This just reminds me that few decent phones still have an audio jack because you gotta use bluetooth man. Someone once told me "you're not saving any battery life by using wired over Bluetooth" Sorry, but I can't hear you over my headphones that I don't need to charge every day so the charger is available for my phone instead.

@@zakaryan2004 Same I just scrolled down to make sure i wasn't crazy 😆
Ok cool. Was thinking about upgrading my headphones. Sounds like I should wait a year.
I will say that I'm stupid excited about this being something that can get rolled out via a firmware / OS update--yeah, it might never hit my company MacBook, but I found a few mailing list threads from April about adding LC3 support to PipeWire and directly to Linux kernel's Bluetooth module.
the battery of ur bluetooth headphone will probably degrade enough in one year that you will need a new one anyway
@@marlon.8051 It's already three years old (ironically I bought it right before the start of the pandemic to have some good ANC on my work commute). Battery life is fine so far (largely due to its pampered existence), but annoyingly the *battery indicator* has gone wonky--it'll charge all day then report "battery low" until I power cycle it two times, and it'll finally self-register as being at full. Anker Q20 if you're looking for a less-than-enthusiastic recommendation.
@@marlon.8051 I wouldn't bet on it but it definitely could lol. I still use my sony xm4 and use them literally 12+ hours every single day since I've had them ( 2 or three years now) and their battery performance hasn't degraded at all even though I have literally charged them over 1000 times since getting them. I will however say that the ANC doesn't work on them anymore though as one mic started to have feedback issues so whenever I turn them on I have to quickly turn off ANC as there is a high pitch squealing noise from the right ear cup that is super loud haha but hey as long as they keep on working just fine for me then I'm going to keep them
@@marlon.8051 idk, my AirPods Pro are a year old and battery life is almost like new.
My left bud had to be swapped recently and when my right one dies the left one has around 5% battery left, that’s not that bad for a whole year
I think it will get much worse next year though
Macs already have Bluetooth LE, so I think they might add support for LE Audio
Or they might just come up with their own standard bruh
As someone who watches a LOT of videos while doing cardio over a Bluetooth connected speaker, the Latency fix is going to be HUGE for me, as I've tried everything I can for years to get it to sync in time.
vamopalecuela
Maybe you should have tried to make it float instead. Or sync...
Aptx adaptive already does the same thing. So you only have to get a speaker that supports it.
Aptx LL solves most of the latency.
@@absolutium that is outdated. Aptx adaptive is the newer version that combines aptx hd and aptx LL.
Title: "Your Phone's Audio Is Getting A Big Update"
Me: "Is the headphone jack coming back!?"
Also me: *disappointment*
Can we get a video comparing/testing how different codecs effect real life battery performance?
I just want a headphone jack. Limited life span wireless headphones and earbuds are just a money sink every few years, I would rather just have a quality pair of headphones with a replaceable cord. That's it.
You already have a (arguably shrinking) choice of Amdroid phones, mostly mid-range that still pack a *3.5mm HP Jack!!*
One of my prerequisites when I had to upgrade my phone last year was that it SHOULD have a 3.5 mm HP jack (paired with the fastest SoC I could get, I was also keen on trying Dimensity), so I ended up upgrading from my (then) 3.5yr old Z2 Plus (another compact/1-hand dream phone) to the X7 Max!
Now I'm planning to buy some good pair of cans/iems in a year or two (HD58X, IE300, etc)
As a French speaker, Bluetooth LE audio is quite funny to read
Dammit Riley, where is the new techquickie merch??! Arguably the best logo design in the company. Short circuit is tight too.
I’m a cochlear implant user, and I cannot wait for the support to connect to multiple Bluetooth devices rather than having to re sync to each device that I wish to use.
If it's not Phones getting the headphone jack back, then I don't care.
"higher quality audio at a lower bitrate"
uh wtf, the bitrate defines how good the quality of the audio is so what gives
And that's why I'm still happy with my earbuds/headphones with a cable. And my old iPod.
Good job auracast is still selected manually, rather than taking over like those traffic announcements. Using radio for radio again.
When watching video (i.e. latency not needed), you can actually sync the video with the audio, but it is not done by default on most OSes and you might need a separate app.
Update: Bluetooth 5.2 gen3 rev2 doesn't require the LE to be implemented, leaving it up to manufacturers.
3:45 nice joke. Really clever. LMG never ceases to entertain.
Got headphones with both Bluetooth and 3.5? Try them both ways, you can choose the bestest ever Bluetooth codec and it will still sound like shit next to 3.5 cable
That Jeb Bush footage was gold!
This why I miss my old LG phone.
They came with Amazing DAC headphones jack
My setup is a BTR5 2021 with iems (FD3) plugged in on balanced, so I can use USB w/ it for 24b/192khz, wireless with my PC using AptX LL and wireless with my phone with LDAC.
Me: who doesn't even use any sort of Bluetooth headphones or speaker.
(Still using my trusty wired on-ear headphones)
3:45 Woah okay, that through me way off, I was immediately about to start checking my offsets. XD
I thought this happened ~4 years ago.
Awesome! I hope this comes to my phone soon!
but does it require specific hardware support on the transmitter and receiver side or it just a software thing that can be pushed with a firmware update?
Your device would need a Bluetooth 5.2 controller. Most likely what you have now won't work.
I used to name my phones Bluetooth to Jesus and leave discoverable so everyone can find Jesus.
I hope the claims are true but I still a big fan of wire headphones cause it simply delivers best results without any hassle just plug and play
ARGH!?!?!?! The part talking about the audio latency really threw me.. It's an irrational frustration for me, and as am using wireless audio right now thought something had gone wrong with perfect timing to the subject. Well played LTT editors.. you got me XD
Ears perked up at Auracast. I'd really like to be able to "tune in" to airport, train, even KFC order ready announcements.
I thought Bluetooth LE was already part of the Bluetooth 4.0 spec.
Plz Auracast from my tv to all in the family, watching movies full blast 😍
:D that was such a troll. "the audio is out of sink with my mouth" that was the only time it was out of sink & I'm wired. but I do like how it was used for dramatic affect.
LTLD: I want my headphone jack back
I'll never use wireless headphones, enough batteries in my life, enough waste....

@@sushimshah2896 Oh, cash. Of course. I also buy stuff with 3,5 mm jack. Voting with my money.

I thought BT LE had been out and in use already for a few years 🤔
So is this only software update thing or do we need to buy new equipment for this?
3:18 seriously Auracast seems to be an amazing feature BUT I'm definitely predicting it won't be mainstream until 2030 or so xD
Thanks for pointing out there's an audio delay with Bluetooth. I can't unsee it now 😳 😆
Battery life has never been my main concern.
Wow you summed up my thoughts perfectly.
@@net28573 There was several Android manufacturers that killed the headphone jack before Apple did.
It's just popular and easier to hate on Apple.
@@net28573 not only you can't transfer files to an an iPhone over Bluetooth, if you plug an iPhone into a Windows device, you can ONLY read but not write. Maybe it's changed now, but that was my experience about 10 years ago when i wanted to transfer a file to my friend. I absolutely hate this Apple mentality of giving the middle finger to everything non-Apple. I've never owned any Apple device and wouldn't be caught dead with one.
@@agentcrm which Android devices dropped the jack before Apple?
Hasn’t Apple supported Bluetooth LE for years now?
It ended so quickly because you da man!
3:20 is videography and content creation masterpiece
Now I just need an affordable noise cancel headset that supports this. Preferably a decent one too. And linux support.
We need a tech-longer on this subject!
3:45 Well played, folks. Well played.
No mention of when it's coming out?
@@Zinic_ My Galaxy Buds2 Pro only allow for seamless switching within the samsung ecosystem >:(
so if they're having proprietary codec problems, why not use an off the shelf high quality license-free codec like flac or ogg?
those are not bluetooth codec sadly

Oh. He meant iPhone. The first iPhone came out in 2007, so four years after. Whoops.
Doesn't my Note9's S Pen use Bluetooth LE ? And it's like from 2018. Nice to see it come for audio too.

0:53 Oh wow, is that St.Petersburg?

In these use cases no need for lowest power consumption, yet ultimate lossless quality absolutely desirable
lmao I love the b-roll of the LTT staff dancing.
You should have started with the "fixed out of sync audio" bit. To me thats the most important piece. It's the reason why I still refuse to use bluetooth earphones.
This just reminds me that few decent phones still have an audio jack because you gotta use bluetooth man.
