Well, all diplomatic gifts like that are technically gifts to the American people. They get put in the Presidential library established after the President is out of office, so its not a total waste. Plus I'm sure former Presidents can go to their library (or anywhere, really) and basically have whatever access they like, so, there is that.
Maybe he could have kept the one from "Jorge"? Maybe that was a way to not make it an official diplomatic gift from "The Pope" ?

Why is it so hard to admire Pope Francis message instead of the man Pope Francis? His purpose is not to be the focus of adulation and worship. His purpose is the same as any other humans on Earth.
