Apologies for the length of this video -- almost qualifies as documentary; and in a way it is. This is about extending my usual loops in the mountains between Rhine and Ahr by a shorter climb (8 km) and a longer downhill (36 km). The downhill from Ramersbach to Bad Breisig is uncut, the full stretch -- that's why it could run as a documentary ...
I was inspired to ride these roads by ride videos of Marcus Bersheim, a cyclist from Kempenich, who knows the area very well, and has shown its routes in many videos. His channel is here:
    / @marcusbersheim
His riding of the uphill from Ahrweiler to Ramersbach is here (from 26:45 if you just want the uphill):
    • Erpeler Ley Radtour
His riding of the downhill from Ramersbach to Bad Breisig is here (should start with the climb, if not, it is from 17:30):
    • Reutersley
From the way down over the hills I have done many videos, just browse my channel for Dernau, so all this video has is the uncut downhill to Dernau through the vineyards -- it is for comparison to the downhill through Vinxtbachtal.
The way back along the Rhine from Bad Breisig I have also covered in several videos, see my other videos here.

Thanks, watched it all! Great scenery. The addition of the Grade gauge adds a lot more interest!

So true. Ever since I occasionally film with the 360° camera, I have a much better understanding of people’s reaction. Otherwise, you need to be riding in a group of velomobiles, and let others go ahead (which does not happen very often, as mostly I need to do the navigation and thus need to be riding up front ...

One thing I've always enjoyed about Velo video's was passing thru small towns where locals don't know you. And capturing all the different types of reactions to seeing a Velo for the first time.

I always set aside an appropriate block of time to view your videos so I can do so without interruption. Fine commentary and fine scenery to enjoy and having the stats displayed adds to the understanding of the terrain you are traversing as the wide angle seldom gives an indication of the gradient.

Another great video. I'm starting to think that all roads in Germany lead downhill 😂. At around 33.29 a car pulls up from a side street. Do you ever get the cars misjudging your speed and pulling out in front of you?

Now that you say it I realize it, too. All roads really run downhill here in Germany. A great country for velomobile riding.

Cars. Pulling out ahead of me happens, but not every day. I try to be prepared just in case. Always seek to make eye contact or at least determine whether driver is looking of oncoming traffic. On the other hand, I mostly don’t ride with my lights flashing during bright daylight - I’m not American. However, on those roads where you frequently change from bright sunlight to deep shadows, I immediately turn the lights on - which I did in this video on the uphill and for parts of the long downhill.

@@rhein228 I guess the risk is the same as on a normal bike. My only crash with a car is from them pulling out in front of me. It looked like they were looking at me...no!

@@danaramer1718 interesting! There has been a sizeable emigration to the US from the Eifel region, both in the 19th and 20th century.
Are there any family connections still?

@rhein228 Not that I know of, they left due to persecution of religious beliefs around the 1700s, so it has been quite some time ago! They may not have lived right in Ramersbach but most likely there is a connection somewhere. 🙂
