As a carpenter/woodworker and antique enthusiast I always catch myself asking:
“How much,in time and material would this item cost me to make”
If everyone would do that, nobody would ever complain about how “expensive” Antique stores are...they are QUITE cheap + you get the history/story for free when you look at it through my glasses.
I myself have always found most Tramp art to be too....”rustic” / “crude” for my personal tastes....
However, $150 for that box is an absolute joke someone worked on that for DAYS,most likely completely by hand.
$375 is what I’d guessed before the auction started.
Sadly this is happening to all antiques except “Art Deco” 🤮
(Art Deco is the only thing in this world I truly Hate 😂)
The market is so bad that a poor-boy like me even now owns several HUGE framed steel engravings (all under $50!?!) ,Jacobean chair’s....paintings
It’s like dealers are having to give stuff away compared to 10 years ago....
It’s sad because it shows that the world is loosing touch with sentiment...among other very important things.
Do you suppose antique enthusiasm will ever see a resurgence?
The oldest dealer in town sadly says:
“Antique market will be completely dead, with no hope of revival in another few years....young consumers just don’t want this stuff”

Thanks, I would love to meet you one day, I am a purist and love antiques. The only hope is that 2 generations out they will start to look at what they missed and have a desire for the quality thing of the past. The sad news is by then it will all be gone. And yes, we are selling amazing items for pennies on the dollar. I also agree that in a few years 5 to 10 this industry will be about at its end. If your ever in Logavnille Ga. come on by. Thanks Braxton's
