Spotlight was a powerful piece as well. Tarantino is a better craft, but Spotlight could draw power from reality. It was an unfair fight. I'd have voted for Spotlight too, despite knowing that The Hateful Eight is probably a better script. We can argue back and forth but in reality, movies serve a purpose that transcends art.

Think maybe QT's was making an obscure TV western reference by hiring Morrow's daughter for his big western movie "inspired by old TV episodes" ? ;)

Plus all his movies you can watch it more then once and time after time ! when ever you feel like something different ! He is original and very creative in the same time and that makes him unique like all of his films and they all good block buster and entertaining ! I love all his movies ! After " Down till Dusk " When I herd his name I just automatically went and watched his news new block buster movies cause I knew with confidence that is going to be kick ass good ! I hope for many years to come he makes more movies like the others ! May be even a movie / year ! What ever he puts his mind to it guaranteed it will knock your socks off and you will be entertained ! Keep up the awesome job Quentin !

Fantastic film. Great acting and writing. Not surprised no nominations happened. The Academy nominates genres over actual performance (in other words, biopic or "special message" movie? You're nominated.). Russell, Leigh (especially), and Jackson should've nominated. Hell, the whole cast. As someone else said, they really should add a 'best ensemble' award.
It's probably just me but when Tarantino says "Vic Morrow" I sensed a vibe of "Oops!" right after he said it, given Jennifer Jason Leigh was there.

I saw the movie yesterday. It has some amazing performances. In particular, Jennifer Jason Leigh gives a riveting performance as a murdering gang member named Daisy Domergue, who has been apprehended by a bounty hunter (played by Kurt Russell) who is transporting her to prison to be executed. This movie is over three hours long but the suspense and action keep you entertained throughout. The movie is filled with a lot of violence and profanity. It's an "equal opportunity offender"- it contains enough controversial material to offend everyone. The offensive material contained in the movie includes: violence against women; racism towards African Americans; racism towards Mexicans; violence against the elderly; sodomy; and excessive use of force by law enforcement officials. It also tackles some positive things like the camaraderie that develops between people from different backgrounds, when faced with a common threat/ enemy. #TheHatefulEight #QuentinTarantino

It's a beautifully shot film where you don't like any of the characters. As for the men, they are well developed but we needed more from Daisy. Overall I would give it 4/5. It's about 3 hours and not Quentin's best work; those are the reasons that this movie has not been a financial juggernaut.

If this is Tarantino's best work, and his best chance at an Oscar, then he will be disappointed. (maybe cinematography) The actors aren't at fault. Russell is good as well as Leigh, Jackson and Dern. And it's not the violence either. No Country For Old Men was violent but the entire movie and all the characters were compelling. I'd give it 3 thumbs up but best picture movies need all 4 thumbs up.
